Epic Event (Epic event by the kinship of Durin's Folk)

    Chapter I

    Hail, Durin's Folk!
Too long has the threat of Angmar lingered and now newfound evidence supports an alliance between the Goblins and Dourhands with the forces of Angmar.
Slowly Angmar suffacates The Western lands with its iron grip from the north. Will you sit by while your home burns or will you fight?
We have trained long and hard for the preperation to finally march on Carn Dum and we are ready!
I call on every abled bodied Dwarf to take up arms and march with us to Angmar. Your Lord and kin call on you, will you answer The Horn of The Dwarrrowdelf and march with us?
We set out on sunday the 22nd of May from our Kinhall at 6 of the clock past midday, a kin meeting will be held afore we march.

((Will add outcome of chapters soon))

Re: Vol I War with Angmar! (Epic event by the kinship of Durin's Folk)

Chapter One: From Ered Luin to the Shire

Following the successful incursion into Kheledul and the sinking of the Dourhand ships, we, the company of Durin's Folk made our way to Needlehole in the Shire. There we learned the Dourhands had established a base by Rushock Bog. Eager to be of assistance to our kin in Needlehole and our weapons wanting the blood of Dourhands, we sacked the Dourhand camp. There we found charters for Dourhand ships from the Angmarim! Satisfied we had delayed Angmar's plans, we headed back through the bog.

One of our party spied a Warg, the biggest he had seen. It was an Angmarim spy! We had been warned of this by Elrond's emissaries in Duillond. We gave pusuit and killed the beast north of Rushock. Victorious but tired, we repaired to the Ivy Bush Inn in Hobbiton where we have set up temporary barracks ready for the next leg of our journey.

Until we have overcome the forces of Angmar we will eschew the comfort of our Kin Halls and live on the road.

Re: Vol I War with Angmar! (Epic event by the kinship of Durin's Folk)

Chapter Two: The March on Evendim
After a week in the Shire, the company of Durin's Folk began the long march into Evendim. Hanfur had scouted the route to Annúminas but had not returned; also Uzbad Duinn had been summoned to the Northern Council in Esteldin to inform them of our plans. He was none too happy to be separated from the expedition but fully understood the need for us to coordinate our efforts with the men and elves.

We arrived at Arthobel sitting high up above the Way of Kings, to find our way blocked by a Warden by the name of Artometh. He told us the way into Annúminas was barred by the Angmarim; before he would let us proceed he wanted to see our fighting prowess. So we delayed our plans, attacking two camps of Tomb Robbers under his direction. In the second were supplies destined for the Angmar: more evidence of the treachery of these men.

Then on into Annúminas itself! The Angmarim were no match for our axes and we soon pressed onto the main garrison. Even Artometh had to admit he was impressed by our strength and discipline. There we found Hanfur, safe and sound having been rescued by the Wardens. A quick march northwards along the lake to Tinnudir and a hero's welcome from the Rangers and Wardens. We feasted long into the night while the officers planned our next move. Durin's Folk will be in Tinnudir for the week, possibly two before we move on the North Downs.

Re: Vol I War with Angmar! (Epic event by the kinship of Durin's Folk)

    Chapter Three; Road to Othrikar

After a delay of a few days we set out from Tinnudir in Evendim towards The North Downs, taking the eastern road close to Fornost. I had recently returned from the Council of The North in Esteldin, where we discussed our combined efforts and to establish a working military base in Othrikar.
Hanfur had left our temporary lodgings in Tinnudir ere I arrived, to scout ahead in Angmar. So I with Lord Yngald and Gorbihn took the lead and march into the North Downs.
We left Tinnudir in the Afternoon heading for the crossroads before continuing east. It was not the ideal weather but we dredged on; rain and wind as we left Tinnudir. After a good march we camped at the Crossroads, sending out scouts to patrol and secure the area. There we found that goblins had established a camp nearby, and we quickly decided to attack and cleanse the place of its infestation.
The attack was done quickly and without any delays or injuries, so after returning to the road we continued as the afternoon approached and it became dark. The rain stopped and gave way to mist; where figures of men appeared. Ghosts some said.
We went carefully ahead finding more disturbing news of Tomb Robbers having a base nearby and something unholy. Wights, shades of dead men roamed the countryside and haunted the ancient ruins. We lead an assault on a tomb robber camp and found that they lived normally side by side with these shades of dead folk. We fought rigorously and cleaned the camp of the dead and living.
Finally we marched through the Gates of Evendim and into the North Downs, and into the ancient fields of Fornost. Here the stories and tales of it being haunted was not exaggerated; it was teeming with Shades of dead men and oathbreakers as Rangers call them, and wargs and goblins.
Moving out of the Fields of Fornost we attacked a second Goblin camp ere we reached the bridge. The interesting thing was a farm nearby with a mysterious stone which will be discussed and examined.
We made our way north and finally to Othrikar where I assigned Gorbihn and Yngald as Joint-Commanders to the base and master Fimbultyr as Quartermaster. So now we can finally begin our last parts of the assaults on Angmar.

Until we achieve our goals in Agnmar, Durin's Folk will eschew the comfort of their Kinhall and all events and meetings will take place wherever they find themselves. This map will be updated weekly to guide those that wish to join the company.

Re: Vol I War with Angmar! (Epic event by the kinship of Durin's Folk)

    Chapter Four: Into Angmar
We assembled at Othrikar for the final march across the North Downs. There we received another visit from Findran and the lady Istarwen, sent by Lord Elrond with words of encouragement and more gifts: elven bows, clubs and other weaponry to aid in our assault on the Angmarim. But then we learned that Uzbad Duinn was not to lead us this day as he was being called away to meet Elrond's emissary in Esteldin.

Sad to lose our leader but emboldened by the new weapons we made the final trek across to the East and the entrance to the Ram Duath. Lord Hanfur and Lord Yngald had scouted ahead to warn Chief Tuokki of our arrival. After a brief respite we made our way northwards to Lemä-Kotiu, home of the Earth Kin.

From there we headed south east to Skathmur where we encountered both Orcs and Angmarim. They had built huge war machines: siege towers and catapults, no doubt bound for the North Downs. Raiding the Angmar tent, Hanfur and Yngald found orders and so learned that an Angmarim commander was stationed in Frith-Vailë, to the north. Hastily we rejoined the path and soon had put an end to the vile Angmarim's life.

Now we were far to the east and decided to try to find a way forward into Malenhad. We arrived at Bail Rová expecting a fight, but then were forced back by a terrible statue that sapped us of our strength. Such is the wickedness and evil doings of these fell men. Lord Hanfur suggested we retreat to Lemä-Koti and from there to Aughaire to recover our depleted spirits and prepare for a march further north.

A setback, but no defeat! Now Durin's Folk find ourselves stationed in Aughaire for the week. Later that night Uzbad Duinn returned to tell us that he had met with the Rangers and the elf emissary, sent from Elrond. His news was heartening: the Rangers have found another route into Angmar and will attack them in the East; with our attack in the West, the Angmarim will be fighting on two fronts. Moreover, news of our success has reached Lord Gloín in the Misty Mountains. He calls for our company to lend him aid on our return from Angmar!

We will push ever on and the hand of the Angmarim shall be stayed!

Vol I War with Angmar! Chapter five - Cutting off the head

Chapter five: Cutting off the head
A week spent in Aughaire, our company was ready to test our axes on the enemy. Lord Duinn had gone back to the Rangers to find another route into Angmar to the East and we have been given our orders: to find the leaders of the orcs and the Angmarim Commander. The Rangers recognise the threat to the North Downs; without their leaders the orcs and Angmarim will be forced to regroup. This will give us time to mount the final assault in the days to come.

So with some trepidation but with stout hearts we set out from Aughaire. Our first target was an orc cave at Morfil where we encountered the orc hoard in great numbers. All fell to our axes, but while there were many Captains among them and a chieftain, neither of the two orc leaders, Chieftain Nûlthauk and War Master Ranghâsh were there. Disappointed but not down hearted we moved onto Tor Gailvin. Here we encountered a pitiful sight; the Angmarim had bound a fell spirit to one of their stones and were conducting some dark ritual. We disrupted their dark practices and freed the spirit. Is this how they create the watching stones? It is horrible to think that each of these stones contains a tormented soul trapped within its confines.

Undeterred, we sacked the Angmarim camp. There on the very top level, we found what we were looking for. A chest inside the tent contained orders from Carn Dûm. From these it was clear that the Angmarim Commander had moved to Bail Rová, ready to begin the assault on the North Downs. If we were quick we could stop him!

We charged our way out of the camp and set out for Fail-a-Khro, where we were able to rest and see to our injuries. The men there told us of a camp in the south, Tyrn Lhuig where we could barrack after our attack on Bail Rová. So, refreshed and with the promise of a good meal and a bed at the end of the day, we set forth to rout the goblins and Angmarim at Bail Rová. Just as the orders had said, the Angmarim Commander had established a command post there. Once we had slain his men we offered him the chance to surrender, but he attacked Lord Hanfur and we had no option but to slay him. A setback as we had hoped to hand him over to the Rangers for questioning, but Master Swarmi found a pouch on his body, the contents of which we will study and share with the Rangers when next we meet them.

Then a proud march southwards over the sandy marshes to Tyrn Lhuig. A hunt for turtles provided us with a great feast which we shared with the men there in thanks for their hospitality.

    Just a little sidenote.
I think I bumped into you, when I was in Aughaire the other day.
The group of dwarfs were so eyecatching, and out of curiousity I were observing the group.
Is just so lovely to see RP/Events around every corners of Middle Earth, it makes me somehow immerse into Achazia and out of respect she didn't intefer, but were watching the dwarfs out of curiosity.

The event look so nice, and the chapters in this thread are very well written

Thank you and the event isn't dwarf only, just so you know, however we do go by a certain story line we have thought up. If you wish to RP or lend a hand you're more than welcome to join the adventure!! We're currently heading towards the final chapter and will be moving to Volume II soon.

Re: Vol I War with Angmar! (Epic event by the kinship of Durin's Folk)

    Chapter Six: Into Carn Dûm
The company assembled at Tyrn Lhuig ready for a push to the east. Our fears about the watching stones were unfounded as the Rangers, aided by Duinn smuggled us through into Gorothlad. From there we marched west to reach the main road; the orders found on the body of the Angmarim commander made it clear that Mor Maudhul was the location of the orc command. This was our first target. However, on our way we were beset by a mighty drake, Skybreaker, one of the many fell beasts in these parts.
Dispatching the drake (Master Fergrim delivering the final blow), we moved over the rocky hills until we arrived at a steep cliff overlooking a Blogmal Orc camp, Grishbalt it is called. We scaled the cliffs, attacking the orcs from behind, finally defeating a pair of trolls the orcs used to guard their gates. None of them expected us to attack from within the camp.
Arriving at Mor Maudhul we searched in vain for the Orc leader Mamar. Instead we were able to find and slay the Trolll, Ronkurz, Champion of Maethad, and the Krahjarn Captain he was defending, further weakening the planned attack on ther North Downs. Rather than waste more time searching out Mamar we pressed on to Myrkworth, a Longbeard stronghold just south of Himbar. The dwarves of Gabilshathur had asked Duinn to call on their brothers there, as there had been reports that their supplies were low. They were gladdened to see us but assured us they had sufficient supplies and would be able to defend the hold against the realms of the dead that have besieged them here.
So it was, after a brief respite that we made our final ascent to the gates of Carn Dum. So ensued a long fight to reach the gates and on the way we intercepted a messenger of Angmar, who was carrying papers and other orders south to the Misty Mountains and Helegrod. We packed our findings but we were aware of the urgency of Lord Glóin's plea for assistance, more than ever.

Trolls slain before the might of Durin's Folk!
Pushing ever onward towards the gates we were driven back by the power of the watching stones one more time; the foul sorcery almost overcame us. But luck was on our side. Master Swarmi remembered tales told by his Uncle, who was a great explorer, so Master Swarmi was able to find another route through spider-infested tunnels of Torech-i-Bogbereth. Fighting our way through we emerged at an opening overlooking Rhunendin! From there it was a short run to the steps to the Gate of Shadows!
Here we defeated the two trolls and the Screeching Cargul that were guarding the gates. Hanfur quickly found the key and the gates were opened. From there we pushed on higher and higher, finally arriving at the relative safety of Tármunn Súrsa. We will stay here to gather our strength before the final assault on Carn Dûm.

Re: Vol I War with Angmar! (Epic event by the kinship of Durin's Folk)

Chapter Seven: The Battle of Carn Dum

We started the last part of the campaign with some encouraging words and words of woe of the task ahead. We were cautious and fully prepared as we left Tármunn Súrsa in the evening though time in Angmar seemed ever shrouded in darkness and eternal night hung over the land.
The road ahead of us from Tármunn Súrsa lead across a bridge and into the final area afore we reached the very gates of Carn Dûm. We began a slow march across the bridge then southwards in the forsaken country and at first it seemed desolate which made us quite concerned that something was wrong. But after a minutes of marching south we encountered a small group of Orcs and other servants of Angmar, then finally reaching the main camps we launched full scaled assaults harrowing the Angmarim ranks and leaving all dead. We entered the pathway into Urugarth where we encountered the monstrous Troll gate keeper which we killed and barred they gates of Urugarth to hinder their reinforcements.
We turned west and went ever deeper into more heavily reinforced areas overrun with Orcs and Trolls, which gave us quite a challenge, however, no casualties were received on our part but heavy injuries which delayed us somewhat. Our wounded we tended as best we could but most of our troops were quite stout-hearted and more willing to rid the place of more Orcs and Trolls.
We turned north after clearing the western area of enemy troops and barring any entrances or pathways where Angmar's reinforcements may flank us, thus we neared the very entrance of the fortress of Carn Dûm. There near the Gates of Carn Dûm another even larger Troll Gate keeper with other guards stood watch and hindered us for a while. We challenged the troll and its minions and a lengthy battle ensued, but we were victorious.
We set up a makeshift camp before the very gates themselves to tend to our wounded and salvage what was found, also making final preparations; there we decided to split our force in two; one entering the fortress and the other going back to Tármunn Súrsa and clearing the way where we entered before and hindering Angmar sending in throngs of reinforcements from the lowlands and overwhelming the folk of Tármunn Súrsa. As we were sure the alarms across Angmar would go off.
I chose Lord Hanfur to lead the assault into the Fortress and there were some disgruntled dwarves of not getting the chance of entering the Fortress, but they followed their orders as expected.
We said our goodbyes and agreed to meet back at Tármunn Súrsa once our tasks were complete and we gave Hanfur and his dwarves our fortunes and blessing as they entered Carn Dûm and we traced our steps back.
We met some orcs along the way back to Tármunn Súrsa which had slipped through our assault or had recently arrived but no real threat. We came to Tármunn Súrsa and met with a ranger called Gwathryn and he informed us that his folk were holding the orcs at bay in the Eastern part of the land, while we pressed on. We made our way passed the gates and eastwards and encountered heavy reinforcements and justified our concerns of a Angmarim flanking manoeuvre to our rearguard. Entering a cave full of heavily armoured Trolls with many Angmarim foot soldiers and Orcs, finally reaching the courtyard where we began our assault days before filled with reinforcements. Another Cargul awaited us with two armoured Troll guards and in the courtyard itself many Angmarim and subjects of Angmar had taken up arms.
A great battle began where we held our ground, forming a shield-wall. After a long tiresome battle with many injuries on our side we pushed them back! Another two Cargul commanders fell before our shield-wall and our push forward. An abundance of Trolls and Orcs died as well and many hundreds Angmarim soldiers died or fled the battle.
We took our injured and what valuables we could scavenge and barred the Gates along the way to Tármunn Súrsa and made camp receiving healing and food from the folk there and so began our wait until the other group would return. We began an uneasy wait and nurtured our wounds while the night drew on.
Meanwhile the second company, under the leadership of Lord Hanfur passed through the gates into the fortress of Carn Dûm. We were joined in the assault by an ally from Baruk Khazad, master Bunduk. Our orders were to cause disruption and to take what valuables we could find. Once inside we made our way to an area where the Angmarim were holding prisoners. Their captors were quickly dispatched and were released, grateful for our help. Being without keys for the main gates we undertook a long and perilous trek along narrow passes and through leech-infested tunnels.
After defeating many enemies, we arrived in the rocky passes where the cruel Gorthorog Trolls barred our way. Long and hard we fought and the Gorthorog were defeated, but not without cost. For a long time we waited while Master Swarmi recovered from the fray, but without one with the power to heal us it would have been unthinkable to press on.
It was then in the heat of battle that Hanfur was thrown by a Troll from one of the narrow bridges and suffered many injuries. Wounded and with damaged armour he struggled back to the company where he was able to witness their final victory over Barashal, a powerful Gorthorog. Having achieved this objective, the company fell back to the safety of Tármunn Súrsa to repair our damaged armour and see to our wounds.

    War in the Mountains

    War in the Mountains

    Hail, Dwarrows of Durin's Folk!

    A letter from Lord Glóin;

Hail and well met, Lord Duinn, my distant cousin. I have heard great things about your kinship and also of the successful incursion into Angmar, and I now call on your aid in the Misty Mountains, it also seems as though matters in Angmar and connected to activity here.

The presence of Goblins, Angmarim and Dourhands is overwhelming, our forces are stretched thin and our allies of Rivendell are preoccupied in the Trollshaws and Eregion. I urge you to come to my aid and it is urgently needed.

Envoys which you have met afore will leave Rivendell soon and will be in The Blue Mountains some time after this letter.

Your friend Lord Glóin Gróin's son

Dwarrows of Durin's Folk and veterans of Angmar; I call on you once more to answer the threat of evil that effects us all. The Misty Mountains are overrun with the enemy and our ancient stronghold of Helegrod is in the hands of Angmar! Will you sit idly by, will you join us for "kin and brother?"
We will await the envoys arrival on the 7th of August and then make ready our march to The Misty Mountains.

    Lord, Duinn Muninn's son

Re: Epic Event (Epic event by the kinship of Durin's Folk)

    War in the Mountains

Chapter I : From the Vale to The Shire

We prepared ourselves and gathered outside our Kinhall and started sorting supplies and whatnot for the journey ahead. We also carried out our usual kinship business of the day; with promotions, announcements and some formal information about the trek. We waited some time for the Emissary of Elrond to arrive, and we were about to leave when Lady Duissane, arrived on horseback and in great haste.
She told us of the dire need for help and of the present situation and the activity of the enemies forces in The Trollshaws and The Misty Mountains. Which were wait we had feared and learned from our time in Angmar; the Angmarims and Dourhands were in the Mountains and looking for the right opportunity to strike Rivendell and Lord Glóin's Company and wholly encircle us. With that in mind but with resolute and determined faces gave our thanks to Lady Duissane and bade her give Lord Elrond and Lord Glóin our message; We will aid them, and we are coming!.
It was early morning so we then turned our attention to marching out of The Vale of Thráin and reaching The Shire by nightfall. We knew before we began the march that it would be a straightforward march into The Shire, because two weeks before we had cleared The Vale of enemies and scouted the outlying areas for enemies and even made a small incursion into The Shire.
Two weeks before we launched a full scale attack on enemy position throughout the entire Vale, simultaneously. Attacking Dourhand and Goblin camps with the separate forces rendering their threat to our folk to nowt. The week after the area was still free of enemy forces, so we made our mission to scouting the area and into The Shire, where we found some Dourhand camps Northwest of the Shire and destroyed them.
So our march was fairly uneventful for the most part, a joyous and good paced march; with a few songs and some war cries to lift the spirits. We marched fast through The Vale of Thráin camping for a while just north of Duillond before continuing towards The Shire. Eating some rations and a good smoke. Despite the uneventful march the sheer number of dwarves who had joined us was overwhelming, many stopped to watch the full might of the kinship of Durin's Folk march.

Upon entering The Shire, I do think the folk of Needlehole were quite surprised to see so many dwarves pass by in single file. From there we crossed the Bog and going cross country to Hobbiton. We slowed our pace and began a slow approach towards Hobbiton and the Ivy Bush Inn, which would be quite surprised and were, after catering so many dwarves.
I told my dwarves to enjoy the evening and be merry, for few nights along our journey would be as this one, and that we have given the Hobbits our services and may aid them in anyway while we stayed there, before marching eastward. So, many of us began playing music and feasted a bit too, while others went to bed after a long and hard march. Finally our Campaign has begun and soon we will set out for Breeland and whatever the fates have prepared for us.

    Chapter II: Shire to Breeland

We gathered outside the Ivy Bush in Hobbiton before setting out. Uzbad Duinn had gone away on urgent business, leaving the four Seneschals to lead this part of the campaign. As ever, the orders were to seek out evidence of Angmarim involvement and to take action where necessary.

The march to the Brandywine Bridge was without incident and we were in Stock ere long. The Bounders in Hobbiton had asked us to call on Fredegar "Fatty" Bolger in Crickhallow. He had sent a request for help as "strange things" had been happening in the Old Forest. We camped outside Mr Bolger's home while Izbad Hanfur went to talk with him. It seems the main concerns were about the trees which seemed to have been possessed by evil spirits and had begun to attack travellers. Hanfur committed the Folk to an investigation and with some unease we entered the Old Forest, a dark and dismal place.

Our meanderings through the Forest brought us to the riverbank where we met with Gillemin Brandybuck, an old forester, in his camp. He confirmed the stories we had heard about the trees and we set out once again with a clear set of directions to the grove where we found the trees. They soon fell to our axes.
There was no visible evidence of Angmarim interference although Lord Yngald found the sap had a foul smell. We took a sample in a jar being careful not to touch it and headed back to the river. We had heard that an old sprite, Tom Bombadil lived on the edges of the Forest and Hanfur thought he would be the best to advise us on the sap.
He was in his home when we arrived, relieved to be away from the gloom of the forest. He quickly welcomed us and offered much appreciated refreshments. He was interested to hear of the trees and wondered if this was more to do with the wights than the Angmarim. So it was with Bombadil's assurances he would 'give the trees a visit', we set out once again, this time for the Barrows.

Tom Bombadil had told us that the wights in the Great Barrow were the cause of much of the Forest's ills but would not advise us to go there, being unconvinced that 'such small folk' could be a match for the wights Gaerdring and Gaerthel, ancient warrior brothers who have arisen deep within the Great Barrow. We needed no more encouragement than this and dividing into two guards entered the barrow, keen to rid the barrows of these two ancient warriors.

After many skirmishes and close fighting in the twisting tunnels and underground chambers we found the two in the deepest part of the Barrow. We fought long and hard and eventually overcame them. Encouraged but weary we made our way out into the night air and onto Bree where we celebrated in the Prancing Pony. There a further treat awaited us in the form of two Minstrels, Achazia and Cynnwyn who delighted us with their playing on the harp and lute. Their music dispelled the horrors of the Barrows, like dew melting away on a sweet Summer morn.

    Chapter III: Into The Lonelands

The company assembled in Bree, outside the Prancing Pony. Before setting out three members took their oaths and were welcomed as full members of the kin: Masters Bosigil, Retorin and Gorfind. Then, with the good wishes for our safety and success given by the local inhabitants, we set forth to the south of the town and leaving the South Gate we made haste to join the road eastwards. Lord Duinn left us to attend to urgent business and Lord Hanfur took command.
After a short rest at the Forsaken Inn, Lord Hanfur distribute packs of Pipeweed that had been given to us by Xilii, the hobbit. Bosigil also ditributed mathoms as protection. From there we marched to a camp of the Eglan, set high up in the mountains. There we learned that at nearby Mithrenost, the ‘grey city’ of old, a large number of Dourhands were camping. We proceeded in single file over the Lornspan and entered the stronghold, killing many Dourhands including their leader. There behind the fort we made a worrying find. The Dourhands had installed an artefact which was undoubtably Angmarim in make. This reminded us of the watching stones of Angmar, for they sapped the spirit and filled the air with a sense of deep evil. More evidence that the Dourhands are working with the Angmarim!
A door at the back of the fort led us to Iorvinas, and underground hall. There we found and dispatched more Dourhands and Orcs, apparently working together! We fought our way through to the exit but in the process, the company was divided into two. There were an anxious few minutes out in the open before the others joined us, all safe.

From here we made an easy journey to Ost Guruth. Here we met with Taled, a dwarf journeying through these parts, and welcomed him into our kin. Master Yrfin went into the tower to offer our help to the wizard Radagast. He asked us to scout a fortress in Garth Agarwen. Accordingly we divided into two groups and set off for the fortress.

Once in the fortress it was clear that all was not well here, a terrible brooding evil hung over the stones like a sickly pall. The place was guarded by several Creoth who were quickly dispatched. Further inside though were hosts of the undead, shades and wights. The greatest of these, Vatar put up a fight but was overcome. This gave us access to the innermost chamber where we encountered and defeated Naruhel. Immediately the sense of evil was lifted and we were able to move swiftly to defeat the rest of the Creoth before returning to our camp at Ost Guruth.

Hanfur reminded the company we would sending an advance scouting party to Tal Bruinen in two days time. It is clear the Angmarim have established themselves here and vital that we know how far into the Trollshaws they have penetrated.

Re: Epic Event (Epic event by the kinship of Durin's Folk)

    Chapter IV: To the Trollshaws

It was time to set out again towards the Misty Mountains. The company gathered at Ost Guruth after finishing their various patrols and other activities. Uzbad Duinn was still in diplomatic mission and Izbad Hanfur seemed to have prolonged his scouting foray further east into the Trollshaws, which was to be our next leg of the journey. Thus we set out under the command of Lord Khlosi, who had also been part of the scouting group.

The first bit of the road east was rather uneventful. A few lone orcs and wargs, nothing that could hope to notably slow us down. We reached the Last Bridge and made camp for a while, to have a quick bite and consult the maps.

It was decided to stay off the road, which had been found watched and thus not safe. Rather than risk missing some eyes of the enemy before they could send news of our march, we would take our chance with those who gave the Trollshaws their name.

Fortunately, most of our travels happened in the daytime, which the trolls fear - and with good reason: a group of three trolls turned to stone was a welcome sight, raising our morale quite a bit. Filled with this strength, we made quick work with the worms and the ragged (but quite sizable!) bears of the area. In the end, we reached the ancient outpost of Thorenhad without problems.

There Lord Khlosi asked the sons of Lord Elrond for news of Izbad Hanfur. He was told that Hanfur had been sighted some time ago, making his way southwards, but not been heard of since then. To alleviate our worries, they suggested we travel to Echad Candelleth, another outpost further south. We did not tarry for long upon hearing this (and master Fimbultyr's disappointed appraisal of the local drink reserves) and set out again.

We crossed the main path again to the south of Thorenhad with some concern - again, how well would this area be watched by spies? And we found our worries to be justified: not too far to the south we came across the ruin of some old watch-post... Which was being looted by Angmarim! A small group only, and no match for our combined might, but nonetheless... The last bit towards Echad Candelleth we would keep watching every hilltop and crevice for more of the evil men.

Finally at the elf outpost though, we were greeted with more bad news. Izbad Hanfur had indeed come under the watchful eyes of the elven wardens, but they lost sight of him as he approached some ancient ruins south-east of the encampment, one that even the elves do not remember the original purpose of.

After some debate, we decided to make camp with the elves and wait for word of our Lords as long as could be afforded. Uzbad Duinn's orders stand; we need to make our way towards the Misty Mountains. Hanfur has his own orders as well. But for the coming days we will send patrols in this area and see how deeply the Angmarim have infested the Shaws really. The safety of Izbad Hanfur is still a concern...

Chapter V: Into the hands of the Elves

A week had passed with no sign of Izbad Hanfur and no word of his whereabouts. Speculation was rife: had he been captured by the Angmarim or attacked by Trolls? The consensus was that it would take more than a handful of Trolls to take him and the Angmarim seemed to be in too few numbers to be a concern. Nevertheless we were all concerned for his safety. We delayed our March to Gloin’s camp with the intention of finding Hanfur; the only clue was that he had mentioned to Lord Khlosi the possibility of revisiting Delossad, as he had seen something in the upper level there he wanted to check.

Before we set out from Echad Candellath, the company welcomed Dazgralin and Rungul as full members of the kin, Lord Khlosi taking their oaths. Our first encounter was another party of Angmarim that were scouting the ruins close to the elf camp! We quickly dispatched them and the reinforcements that were sent. Then along the cliff edge and down the steep bank to the brook. A near disaster as Lord Gorbihn lost his footing and slid down the cliffs! Fortunately only some cuts and bruises to show, but this was a timely reminder of how treacherous the terrain could be here in the Trollshaws. At the base of the cliffs we were attacked by Trolls but quickly dealt with them.

Crossing the brook we headed downstream to where it joined the Bruinen. Here we rested while the Lords made enquiries of the couple that lived there if either had seen Hanfur. They had not, but told of a large group of Angmarim heading upstream on the opposite bank. We crossed by the ford here, apprehensive about what may lie ahead. Rungul was dispatched back to Echad Candellath to warn the elves about the movement of Angmarim east of the river. The worry was that they might circumvent the Ford of Bruinen and attack Imladris from the South.

We crossed to the east bank and made out way north to the ruins of Delossad, an eerie place whose ancient name and purpose have been forgotten. Lord Gorbihn led the way to the upper level. There seemed to be someone behind the doors there, as we could hear a faint moaning. We forced the doors open and Gorbihn entered to find Izbad Hanfur lying inside the door, close to death. Gently we helped him out and gave him water and food. It seemed that he had gone back into the ruins to investigate and the door had swung shut behind him trapping him there. He had managed to find what he was looking for; a set of what appeared to be orders written in the Black Speech, on the reverse of which was a map, almost certainly of Helegrod. Once outside, Hanfur found his goat and was able to ride behind the company. We felt the best thing to do was to get him to the healers at Rivendell without delay. We would show the script to Lord Elrond and ask for his help.

A difficult journey for Hanfur, we were relieved when at last we reached the Rivendell Valley, where we delivered him to the elves. The Izbad looked pale and haggard and we can only hope that the elves' way of healing is effective, being so far from home. Later Rungul arrived from Candellath with news that she would dispatch a company of elves to see to the Angmarim east of the river. He was delighted that we had found his guardian Hanfur, but shocked and dismayed to see how ill he had fallen.

The War in the Mountains, Chapter VI: To Glóin's Aid!

We finally said goodbye to our hosts at Rivendell and headed out again for adventure. Izbad Hanfur had made a marvellous recovery, though still not up to battle condition. Before we left the Last Homely House he took Isvaldir’s oath and welcomed him as a full kin. Uzbad Duinn is still in Moria and news has been received that he is seeking his father who is missing. We wish him well and hope for a speedy resolution and return!

Lord Khlosi led the company through Imladris and up through the pass into the mountains. There we met with Lord Glóin who gave us our orders. Though the company was keen to get to Helegrod there were other matters to attend to first. Glóin seemed to be besieged on every side; the Dourhands at Gabilazan, the Goblins to the Northeast and the Northmen who roam the northern mountains. More pressing, Glóin had heard reports of Gauradan settling far to the south east and urgently needed us to scout them. On our way, we should look for an old dwarf by the name of Halmur, possibly still at Gabilazan; he would know of our best way of getting into Helegrod. Finally, we should visit the Goblins to the north before returning to him. Documents retrieved had now been translated and revealed that it was the Uruk who were treating with the Goblins, not the Angmarim as feared. Glóin wanted us to attack the Uruk and retrieve their orders.

Armed with this list of tasks, we set out eastwards to the High Crag. Fortunately the weather remained calm, the only problem being the bears that continued to attack as we headed east. Finally Gabilazan came into view and Izbad Hanfur briefed us. We were to search every building until we found Halmur. Any Dourhands we found would be slain but none was to harm Halmur. So we set out, keen to try our axes on the Dourhands’ necks. They put up very little resistance being ill prepared for a full on assault and we quickly passed through the stronghold. Behind, we found Halmur, guarding the tomb of his ancestors. Once we had convinced him we meant no harm and that we came with the blessings of Glóin, he calmed down and was able to tell us of a way into Helegrod. However the key was lost and he feared it had fallen into the hands of the Goblins to the North.

Undeterred we set out again having checked the way out was clear. There stood in the gateway was a giant! So, the giants were now in league with the accursed Dourhands! They side with every old enemy of the dwarves! Steeling ourselves we launched into battle and defeated this and the other giants that came to his aid, pressing ever eastwards until we found a place to rest and struck up camp.

Before we left, Hanfur said his nose was twitching and he had picked up the scent of Troll! We scouted to the south and found a huge Snow Troll, heavily armoured and a worthy opponent. We were too strong for him and now filled with battle lust we quickly felled the beast.

Heading north we found the pass to Men Helch, though this was guarded by more giants. Descending into the frozen tarn we encountered many worms, but nothing too dangerous. As we headed southwards though we found more and more wolves and knew then that the tales of the Gauradan were true. We found their camp in the south east and rampaged through it, searching every nook for clues as to why they had settled here. Izbad Hanfur found something in the last chest we opened, but he has not yet revealed its significance.

A long hike north followed, fortunately in clear weather, until our eventual arrival at the stronghold of Hrimbarg, which we found largely deserted. It is true then that Glóin’s dwarves are spread thinly here. We quickly established a base and spent the rest of the evening in song, dance and ale.

    War in the Mountains

Chapter VII: Into the Goblin's den

Any concerns about Izbad Hanfur’s whereabouts disappeared when he joined us at our camp on the threshold of the goblins’ lair. We formed into three squads to make it easier to navigate the narrow tunnels that lay ahead. Two lined up outside the main door and waited to give the third time to make it’s entrance through the Black Crack.

We made our way swiftly through the first chamber and well into the second with very little resistance, Lord Khlosi’s squad having cleared the way. In the third however we met with fierce resistance and were driven back from the entrance to the Throne Room. Retreating a safe distance we quickly separated into two combat squads and one scouting unit; this unit was charged with further exploring the tunnels we had stumbled on, to report back later.

The two combat units fought their way back to the entrance to the throne room and overcoming the guards, slipped inside. As we moved through the chamber, killing goblins we became aware of a raised platform at the far end. Atop this was a dais and the throne of the Great Goblin. It was a great temptation to rush forward and attack, but Izbad Hanfur held us back, and for good reason; in the centre of the floor was a huge pit, set with vicious spikes. Had we advanced blindly we would have fallen headlong to a dreadful fate.

Having overcome the Great Goblin’s personal guards, Hanfur approached alone to take the Great Goblin’s surrender. Instead he set upon him with a great hound. At that moment we charged forward and put an end to the fell beast. The Great Goblin, enraged by this, bore down upon us and quickly suffered the same fate. A search of the body revealed a slim chain around the goblin’s neck and a key. This surely must be what we were looking for!

Back in the safety of the tunnels the three units met together. The second unit had found the keys to the Slave Pens and the scouts reported finding salamanders in a great cave. Most curious.

Together again, we moved onto our second objective, to verify the reports that Uruk had established themselves here. We found them easily, an army of Blogmal, dug in and well defended. We found their leader in a deep chamber and Hanfur retrieved orders, written in the Black Speech, from his body.

With two objectives achieved, we moved across the chamber to the site of our next encounter. During the week at Hrimbarg we had ventured north searching the elf-maid Glorwen. The Warg Blackfang had told us that she was held by the goblins and we were sure she would be in the Slave Pens. We were not wrong and found her deep underground. Before we could rescue her, she asked us to seek her companion, Aeglas who was being held in an even deeper cell. We fought our way through the jailers to find him and Hanfur opened his cell. Before he could stop him, Aelgas took the keys and opened a second cell holding a goblin prisoner. We were astounded at the elf’s foolishness, as no sooner was he free that he goblin attacked us!

We rushed to Aeglas’s aid and slew the goblin before returning to Glorwen’s cell. After she was freed, it was a simple matter to find our way back through the tunnels and out into the fresh air.

Lieutenant Byl took command and marched us back to Hrimbarg where there was much celebrating, Master Norgi entertaining us with songs from near and far. A great victory. Tomorrow we must hasten to Glóin with the news.

    War in the Mountains

    Chapter VIII: Helegrod!

Following our success in Goblin Town we moved ourselves to Glóin’s camp in the West. From here we could train for the assault on Helegrod. Hanfur reported all we had found to Glóin, though the orders we found were indecipherable. So another trip back to Rivendell, to impose upon Lord Elrond to make the translation. Hanfur was apprehensive about the meeting, but once he had told Elrond that Glorwen and Aeglas had been freed he was more than happy to help us.

The Uruk orders contained the names of three Angmarim leaders, all billeted inside Helegrod: Breosal, Adhargal and Grisgart. These three it seems are keeping the forces of evil under control within its walls. This is grave news indeed, not just for Glóin, but for the elves of Rivendell for if we fail Glóin we fear Angmar will be able to sweep through the Misty Mountains and descend into Imladris like a black tide.

We trained hard during the week but little could assuage Hanfur’s unrest. Whether he was remembering the lack of discipline that had led to a breakdown in the chain of command that had occurred during the previous week’s training or whether it was the size of the task that lay ahead, we could not tell. Then came the day of the attack! We marched two abreast out of Glóin’s camp then spread out as Corcur were spotted. We mounted the bitter stair in scouting format and quickly dealt with all resistance, arriving at the gates to Helegrod exhilarated but still sensing the nervousness that pervaded the ranks.

Our first and last encounter inside the walls of Helegrod were Giants accompanied by huge cats that stood head and shoulders over us. Bravely the officers tried to instil some discipline into the company but panic set in and we were quickly overwhelmed. Eventually, tired and driven back to the gates we decided to regroup and return to our camp. A sad day for Durin’s Folk, to be so close to our objective and so badly defeated.

Although Izbad Hanfur ended the evening with more rousing words, it is clear he is far from happy with our performance. We can only hope that reinforcements arrive during the week to support our second attempt.

Re: Epic Event (Epic event by the kinship of Durin's Folk)

    War in the Mountains

Chapter IX: Helegrod and the Giants' Fall!

We met again at Glóin's camp, ready for the second assault. Thankfully the reinforcements had arrived and we were greatly heartened to be joined by Gilaim of Kibil Dûm who brought his healing skills to the company.

We left the camp, marching two abreast, and set out north. On the plains we spotted a band of the Corcur and spread out in scouting formation to ensure not a single one would escape to Helegrod and raise the alarm. We stormed the Bitter Stair in single file, overcoming all resistance.

Once inside the Stronghold, Hanfur called on Retorin to take a dispatch back to Glóin and to make haste before the Corcur sent fresh guards. What Retorin did not know was that the purpose of the dispatch was to inform Glóin of our arrival and to leave instructions to alert Elrond in case of our defeat. Attached was Hanfur's bequest to the Kin and to his ward, Rungul. He did not want the others to know that death was a likely outcome of this, our hardest campaign.

We met the same fierce resistance as before but this time those that fell were soon revived by our healers. This gave us fresh courage and the hope to proceed. Three of our number were chosen to lead the vanguard, Dazgralin, Thradin and Lietenant Thalun.

After much fighting we arrived at Storvâgûn's lair. This was a huge giant, far taller than any we had seen before. We knew that once we defeated him, the giants' power would be broken and we would weaken Angmar's hold over Helegrod. On the first assault we were driven back but not defeated. We paused to reconsider our strategy, with many wise words from Brother Gilaim. This time we did not fail; Thradin approached to attack the giant alone and the rest of us followed. The strategy worked! As soon as Storvâgûn's attention was on Thradin we all attacked from behind. Then a host of giants, great cats and finally snow beasts joined the fray; all of them we defeated.

At last, when we were starting to tire of the constant fighting, a great cry went up: Storvâgûn was defeated! He had fallen to the axe of Dazgralin! The heroic efforts of our best warriors and the stalwart services of our healers had led us to victory.

We marched out of Helegrod, our heads held high. Such was our elation that we ran all the way back to Glóin's camp, sweeping through the plains like a blue tide, cleansing them of the Corcur and fell beasts that had come too late to Helegrod's aid. Thanks to the Folk, the Misty Mountains are safe once more and Rivendell can sleep easily.

*Sealed letter with the insignia of the Iron Garrison*

To Uzbad Duinn of the Kinship of Durin's Folk,

Hail and greetings Duinn, I write to you not in joyous news nor of renewal of old friendship but in need and guidance! The Orcs and Goblins have multiplied and new more fiercesome ones bearing a strange white hand banner have come as well and are causing trouble and worse.
The Elves of Lorien have helped us greatly but deep in the deepest delving something else stirs and we are too few to attack and maintain the great Halls of our ancestors - we know not what awaits our future but we can be prepared, so I ask you as you once said so many moons ago that your Kinship would come to Khazad-Dum - and need your help.
I wish not to go the way of Lord Balin and his dwarrows, so I beg you please; aid us!.

    Ever at your service,
    Brogur

    Chamber of Leadership, Khazad-Dum

*Sealed letter bearing the Insignia of Durin*

To Brogur, Leader of the Iron Garrison Expedition

Hail and well met friend! Dire news that you bring to us at this time, however, I understand your concern and the consequences of what could happen lest it not come to pass. By the time this letter has reached you, preparations will have started to come to Khazad-Dum, however, we are to send a small group to Angmar first to Rescue a Dwarf in captivity there, but do not let this lessen your hope for I promise you the banners of Durin's Folk will ring and we shall march to Khazad-Dum!

Kind regards and ever at your service,

Duinn Muninn's son Drakenbane, of Durin's Folk

((OOC: Yes the epic events will start again, the biggest one yet! Stay tuned for more and the Event will start sometime in February))
