The lack of a full-screen windowed option (alternately called fake fullscreen or borderless windowed mode) is very annoying in LotRO. If you want to use your second monitor while you're playing, you're forced to run in windowed mode, or alt-tab out every time you interact with the second monitor. The settings file has fakefullscreen in it, but it does not work currently.
Running windowed interferes with your UI layout, and ruins the immersion of the game.
Alt-tabbing is time consuming, ruins the immersion, and breaks any videos playing on the second monitor a lot of the time.
Could we please have a way to play full-screen windowed.
I favor for this. It is really a mess, even because the Client seems also often crash when you often switch Lotro between active and non-active window.
I always run in windowed mode but I re-size my window to fit the screen. Try that. Those little arrows on the sides really work like re-sizers on regular windows.
Full screen windowed is a staple of MMOs, even non-MMOs implement it a lot of the time. You would think that Turbine, with it's great graphics and immersion focus would stop the ugly window borders from interfering.
It used to work; that's how I had mine set up for a long time. Then with one of our updates (don't remember which) it quit working. So...here's hoping they realize it's a problem and fix it.

Wonder if they did it intentionally. I know originally DAoC didn't allow it, on the premise that it reduced exploiting. They relented a couple years later and allowed it which was nice. Other than that period in DAoC, can't think of another MMO that doesn't allow this.
I would very much like to add my vote to this. I recently got my 2nd monitor repaired, and I would very much like to be able to use it the same way I grew accustomed to in other games...

Hopefully Turbine will fix it someday. Along with all the other graphics and audio features that they have broken as they update the game engine. Turbine has a habit of adding nifty new feature(s) - break a number of older features. Isengard introduces new features, Turbine broke the lighting feature. .

Playing LotRO again a lot since RoI and once again reminded of how much I'd really like this to be implemented again. Choosing between being locked out of my second monitor or having to put up with titlebar, taskbar and other borders ruining immersion is a tough choice.
I used Eye-finity (work like extended desktop but better) and I play lotro across a monitor and half, so the only option is in windowed mode. Playing fullscreen on 2 monitors puts the direct center in between them so the only way to see surrounding area, in trailing camera mode, is stuck inside the bezels between the 2 monitors. So ya I would love to have to stop moving lotro to one side every time it launches. Borderless is nice to have but no biggie.

Older than dirt and still making mudpies....
I would like to add my voice in support of having this feature brought back. LOTRO is the only game I play that doesn't have this, and tabbing out is a pita because of it.

That is the strange thing. All other current MMOs have it, even a lot of non-MMOs have it.
How about a borderless window, specifically at window border toggle.
- Go to windows-mode,
- Size window as needed.
- Toggle off border and cannot be resized or moved until Borders are toggled back on.
THis would work better for me since I have 3 screens on eyefinity, and as far as game knows, its one big 3600x1600 screen. When multi-box crafting I am running e 1200x1600 windows, it would be nice to remove the window borders.

1- Save ui layout ... /ui layout save
2- Press Alt+Enter (this will toggle between windowed and full-screen mode)
3- Do whatever you must on other monitors
4- toggle back (alt+enter)
5- Load ui layout ... /ui layout load
Didn't experience Full-Screen Windowed mode until I played Rift, then SWTOR. Ever since, LoTRO has irritated me having to run in standard windowed mode. Please make this work in LoTRO, Turbine.
1- Save ui layout ... /ui layout save
2- Press Alt+Enter (this will toggle between windowed and full-screen mode)
3- Do whatever you must on other monitors
4- toggle back (alt+enter)

I'll have to remember this, thanks. Having the UI layout break every time was almost as annoying as not being able to run in borderless windowed. Heres hoping Turbine gets with the picture and enables a feature supported in every other mainstream MMO.
There are a lot of weird glitches with LOTRO graphics. When I run YouTube or whatever on one monitor, and LOTRO on the other, the video fails quite often. This never happens with any of other LOTRO-like games I play.
I've never had any of those problems, and I run a system that requires me to use a lot of Low and None options in my Video Settings.
As Laurefinde has said, I use windowed mode, then full-screen.
The only problem I run into, is accidentally drag things out of my quickbars while adjusting the camera angle, but that's more my fault than anything Client or Turbine related.
Playing Rift atm after not getting past level 7 at its launch. It's a joy being able to play full screen windowed with at most a 2 FPS loss (from 65 or so). iirc, lotro had a much larger fps drop swapping to windowed, or am I imagining things?
The game is much more immersive without the chunky borders, title bar and task bar getting in the way of the beautiful world (both games have great graphics imo).
One of those things that I don't like that I didn't know I don't like!

Windowed mode is a must for me as Netflix is almost always running on the 2nd monitor.
Alt+Tab I use only in "emergency" as it pretty much messes up everything I'm doing.
It's bugged me for years that Turbine can't implement fake fullscreen properly, and as mentioned many other MMOs do it rather well!
Still, as they continue to use Dot Net 1.1 (which lost mainstream support a few years back), it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that they still can't do something that every other company seems to do as standard now.

I suspect Turbine does not see this feature as being necessary to attract more customers or keep customers.

As long as the current launcher continues to work under all Microsoft OSes. As long Turbine has no launcher feature worth implementing. Management is not going to approve expending resources to create a new launcher that does exactly what the current launcher does.
I had hoped Turbine would upgrade to .NET 4.0 because .NET 1.1 is not part of current Microsoft OS distributions. Turbine doesn't seem to be concerned by any customer loss due to aggravation of having to figure out that they need .NET 1.1. Followed the time and aggravation to download and install .NET 1.1.
Turbine is what I would call a Herd developer. They do functionality that the Herd (majority of the customers) wants. Features that are interesting for small parts of the customer base are ignored.

It's rather sad really. I know at least one person who refuses to try LoTRO purely on the basis that Dot Net 1.1 is a requirement and is actively discouraged when trying to install on Windows 7.
If one person feels like that, I wonder how many more there are ....
Thought I'd see what was shaking in Middle Earth, but once again the lack of full screen windowed drove me away quickly. LotRO is about immersion, and being forced to have huge ugly borders seriously detracts from that immersion.
There's a workaround to make it feel slightly like fake fullscreen for this, there's a couple of True/False things you can switch around in the preferences text file.
The way I got it to work is that I can play lotro fullscreen on one monitor and have the other work just fine. I can move my mouse out of the lotro follscreen window and click on something in the other screen, upon which windows switches focus and minimizes the lotro fullscreen.
When I get home I'll look up the details - can't access the preferences file here.
It's basically a faster alternative of ALT-TAB out.
EDIT: Home now, look below for everything I altered in the UserPreferences file:
I bolded the stuff I think is important. Basically what this does is to allow you to look at the second monitor without it going black as soon as you launch the game, and it allows you to bring your cursor out of the game window. As soon as you click something else windows changes focus and minimizes the game.
I'd like to see this as well, I'm running 4 monitors on a GTX680 and 5960x1080 spanning 3 of them is fine, looks great but it's rather irritating to have say a webpage running on the accessory monitor and not be able to get at it. You can always alt+tab out but thanks to the system wide instability that the latest drivers have brought to my machine Lotro sometimes bombs out when going back in, certainly not Lotro's fault more nVidia's but I've had to chase down and route out a lot of problems thanks to the new drivers.
Little side note for eyefinity and 2/3D surround users, after a recent dialogue with Turbine Technical support (less than 12hours from ticket to solution - good work guys) I was told the following...
Note also that resolutions of 2000pixels and beyond are not supported by the game and can result in increased performance loss and stability issues.
Personally I'd like to see a change to this as well but for the moment

Proud to be a 2013 Lotro Player Council member - my ears are always open but for the 907th time - I CAN'T GET FLYING GOATS PUT INTO GAME.

Do some tests... the 2 FakeScreen parameters are not used by the game. What you describe results only from Confine parameter.
Else, yes, boring .NET 1.1, as you dev with DX11 ? oO
Give us back FakeFullScreen, well, to be true a "Windowed FullScreen" as said by all other MMOs, especially the arriving Guild Wars 2 and a window mode without borders.
