I recently happened to see someone who had a crafted black ash bow with fire damage on it. It was level 45 I believe. Looking in my own crafting panel, the only level 45 bow I could make had the Belerand damage type on it. I asked him about it and he said that he had made it with one of his alts some time ago and that the recipe had apparently been changed since then.
It seems unlikely that the recipe is still available, but does anyone know if folks who had the original recipe can still make them perhaps? Does anyone know why they changed things?

Nope. Turbine changed the recipe for everyone.

Hunters have access to Fire and Light oil. There is no need for these damage types to be permanent on a crafted bow unless you are Champion or Guardian. Champions and Guardians do not really kill with their bows. I believe Turbine felt it would be better to allow Hunters a choice of three damage types. The built in damage type. Plus optional fire and light via oil.
There may still be some quest bows with Fire and Light damage. I did not see any recipes that create fire and light damage bows any more. It is always possible I missed one. Gosh - It has been a long time ago that Turbine made this change.

I dont remember the crafted bow recipes being fire/light when I got here for F2P, but there were still quest fire/light bows.
Hmm, that makes sense Yula. Thanks for responding to my question. There is a dropped bow with light damage on it named the Bow of the Eagle that I bought from the auction house a while back, but I haven't seen any others.
It makes me curious if there used to be crafted melee weapons with fire and light damage on them in the past.

It's been a very long time, but if I recall right the mirrored weapons (crit one-shots for Tier 5) had light damage. This was before Moria was released and level 50 was the cap. There could have been others as well.

This change was made long before F2P. I am thinking 2009, Moria and before Mirkwood. Turbine made scholar and vendor updates for Oil. IIRC - Oils are allowed for Wardens - on their javelins?

Unless the LB is wrong (not out of the question), all those (now) L50 crafted are still light
Note on Oils: Not sure on Warden's Javelins, but putting oils on a x/bow only changes some of the attacks using that x/bow. IIRC, there are some skills (HS comes to mind) that will retain the non-oil dmg of the weapon and your AAs will not have the oiled dmg.
I bought one of these level 45 fire bows at the auction house and tried to get more from the maker. I was told it was from a guild recipe, I never got more.
