Re: [EVENT] Green Dragon Friday
And what an excellent party it was, with much fine music, stories, poems and dancing!
Here is a poem in honour of the fine event.
Ode to the Green Dragon
Now every Friday, every week
Green Dragon Inn is what we seek
In Bywater, it proudly stands
And folk they come, across the land
And what is it that draws us in
To Barmy's little humble Inn?
Why do we walk in through that door
Across the creaking wooden floor?
The ale perhaps? It taste's quite nice
And sold at quite a reasonable price
The food is quite enticing too
Though sadly pies are much too few...
It's not the rug that's on the floor
Which barely is a rug no more
And surely it's not all the chairs
Though we'd complain if they weren't there
Is it the fire that burns so bright
At which we stare with child's delight?
And my, it is a warming fire!
It warms the bones, this wintery Shire
Maybe its the tales all told
That bring us in from out the cold
Or is it all the lovely tunes
Whose melodies can fill the room
But wait, I really have to say
It's not the music that is played
And even with the story chair
You can't tell tales with no-one there
You need a singer for a song
And then some folk to dance along
What makes this Inn the place to be
Is all the lovely company!
I'm sure you all agree it's true
What makes this place is you! And you!
We hobbit folk should feel so proud
Just remember, no bagpipes allowed!

*shivers at the thought of turnip juice*
Anyways, it is time ter announce this for hobbits all over:
GDF/Hobbit End of Year party at the Plough and Stars!
It is Green Dragon Friday! But in Brockenborings! And with an end of year theme!
Date: December Friday 30
Time: 8:00PM GMT/3:00PM servertime
Location: Plough and Stars inn, Brockenborings
Barmy currently keeps the Green Dragon closed to clean up after the GDF yule party, so this coming Friday we'll be at the Plough and Stars in Brockenborings instead! And there are no better hobbits to greet the new year with than yer fellow Brockenborians!
So come greet the new year and the coming brighter days with us! Bring a tale, a song, a poem, a riddle or something similar, if yer have fireworks that's grand too (fer use outside), and we will have us a party worth remembering!
OOC details:
Same as the regular GDF, this is a hobbit RP event. As usual, we request that longshanks respect the hobbit-oriented nature of the event, basically by not showing up. Do roll up a hobbit instead, though, it is marvellous fun! General guidelines are hereLina Willowwood, biscuit-eating bard on Laurelin

Re: [EVENT] Green Dragon Friday
This looks like real fun. I enjoyed RP Events, especially most with hobbits before on the german RP server, but however not in English yet. Just came here with some international friends.
As I've read the first post, I see this is for hobbits only, and an exception for dwarves. But what if, lets say, a group of 4 - 6 dwarves comes a long. Would that ruin something or would you very welcome it. Saw on some pages before that 1 or 2 dwarves joined and were welcomed. Not that you would feel uncomfortable if suddenly the tavern is full of dwarves.
We are not sure if we turn up though, but we would be interested at all. Just wanted to ask.
greetings

Re: [EVENT] Green Dragon Friday
Dwarves have always been welcomed. It's not just for hobbits at all. When I began this event way back whenever it was, I fully hoped that Dwarves would show up, I mean they look great there smoking their pipes and showing off their beards. Travelling Dwarves, hobbits and hobbit residents was my vision. It's just the Elves and the race of men that literally don't fit in with it all, so it is encouraged they roll a hobbit/dwarf for the night, thus getting more RP as a result.
Not that i'm in charge anymore! But i'm sure the event is run exactly as it always was.
I'll get back to Star Wars now 0_^ Have fun! And all the best to the hobbits of Green Dragon.

Re: [EVENT] Green Dragon Friday
It is, one of the best events in my opinion!
As it's moving to the Plough and Stars this week as the Green Dragon is being refurbished.... Not that we ever really notice you mind? - It might be a little crowded, so if ye keep to the back and mind the little folk? Much welcomed

Re: [EVENT] Green Dragon Friday
The Lonely Mountain Minstrels were present as well. I think the hobbits were quite surprised when we started playing music and even one of us danced.

We also drank a lot and went loud, but well we're dwarves.
Was a lot of fun!
Greetings,
Miworin.

Re: [EVENT] Green Dragon Friday
Thank yer all who came! (minus the one griefer, but less said about that the better *smiles*) I hope yer enjoyed the party! It was quite grand and lively!
Some highlights from the night:
- Four band performances, plus many solo musicians
- Simbo's new year's poem
- A merry group of travelling dwarves, who played tunes that got the hobbits dancing
- Much toasting of friends and wishes fer a happy new year
- Fireworks
A warm thank yer to those who have posted pictures from the night! A few more pictures, plus one of the song lyrics, can be found here.
The coming Friday we'll be back at the Green Dragon in Bywater, as per usual. In the meantime, a happy new year everyone, strangers and friends, both present and absent!
The year nears its end, so I sit back and sigh
When thinking of old friends no longer nearby
The dear ones who left us to go out of bounds
You long for their voices but can't hear a sound
You hope that someday they'll return to our fold
With stories that tell us of silver and gold
But what most of all you can hope for tonight
Is joyful good memories of past times so bright
Well into the new year, the daylight returns
The land slowly wakes from its slumbering turn
The days all get warmer as we enter spring
And soon comes the day when the birds start to sing
They sing of old friends who'll return to our fold
With stories that tell us of silver and gold
And we can all hope that they come here tonight
With joyful good memories and laughter so bright

I had a wonderful time. I wish I could attend more often, but I am from your former colony of Massachusettes and my timezone does not mesh. I was on vacation so was able to attend... I hope to be able to more in the new year.

As long as there well behaved, don't start shouting - it frightens some of the younger hobbits - and don't keep bashing into us. I'd say yer more than welcome!

Re: [EVENT] Green Dragon Friday
Aye, a few dwarven travelers are always welcome, as long as they behave well, mind the local customs somewhat and don't play bagpipes!
Of course, it is always grand if they have a reason ter be in the Shire beyond just coming to party (for instance, they could be in the Shire to trade, they could be passing through on their travels east/west or similar). If so, some news from the road is always welcome. Don't be surprised if the locals seem more interested in dancing and ales than in scary tales from outside the bounds, though *smiles*Lina Willowwood, biscuit-eating bard on Laurelin

Re: [EVENT] Green Dragon Friday
I can promise good behavior, i cant promise no bagpipes! (gah, no pipes, what is the world coming to?) But only if we are invited to play a song or two! So it is really up to you Hobbits!
We mithril guard have an IC reason to be wandering through or heading to many places due to our status as "guards of the dwarven trading roads and outposts" so it works out pretty well for us!
I will try to bring a few dwarves tonight to enjoy an ale or two with! See you there!Last edited by Vunar; Jan 06 2012 at 04:36 AM.

Re: [EVENT] Green Dragon Friday
Once again to Bywater, hobbits, for the latest in hobbit news, many songs, much dancing and whatever else we can think of! 8PM GMT/3PM servertime tonight.
A few tips for first-time visitors:
- Read the general guidelines for the event, see the first post of the thread.
- It is grand if people bring entertainment (songs, stories, poems, riddles or news)! Just remember to contact the "master of ceremonies" for the night (often myself) by a /tell to get your slot, so not everyone jumps in and plays their songs at the same time.
- Also remember that time on the night is limited, so keep your entertainment offers relatively short (3 songs instead of 6, stories lasting 10-15 minutes instead of 30 or more). There is always the next Friday too!
- The "master of ceremonies" hobbit is often very very busy sorting out offers for entertainment, which means that answers may take a few minutes. Engaging her/him with continued requests or long discussions by /tell is not recommended *smiles*
- If you'd rather chat and discuss matters with a few friends in a peaceful inn environment, the Dragon is large enough to accomodate that. Just move a little away from the main entertainment hub, for instance to the inn counter or to the other fireplace, and things are considerably more quiet.
- As always, GDF is a hobbit event, although a few dwarven visitors are always welcome.
- Go with the flow and enjoy yourself!

Since returning to LOTRO on a regular basis, I've been playing my Hobbit (Paladric) moreso. I can't thank you all enough for the delightful roleplay, especially last week's Green Dragon Friday. It was the best I've attended so far, and had me in giggles. Thank you for making the game fun again!

A lovely night again, aye hobbits! Well done to everyone who attended, performed, drank and partied until the early hours!
Sometimes, though, the really special things come fer those who stay until the very end. This time, we went up to the Three-Farthing stone and listened to Simbo's epic poem of Old Jacob, complete with music support and fireworks in the end.
