It'll be grand ter have yer back! And there has already been many offers for entertainment; new songs, poems and possibly even a story; so it should be a fine night indeed!

Else, for our North American visitors: Please remember that Daylight Savings Time won't be in effect in Europe until Sunday March 25th. So GDF starts at 8PM GMT, which currently translates to 4PM servertime. Unless I am totally confuzzled, that is.

My, this does sound attractive. Of course I'm on a totally different (NA) server and a non-RP player, but this sounds worthwhile to create a Hobbit (or a Dwarf, because I like Dwarfs) on this server just to pop in to this event every now and then.

    Re: [EVENT] Green Dragon Friday

I believe we have one or two visitors from other servers from time to time, a warm welcome to yer! Just join the fun and act it out in the spirit of the event and its guidelines, and we'll get along swimmingly.

Else, we are nearing the fourth anniversary for GDF! Currently planned for mid-to-late April, we are now looking for suggestions on how to celebrate. So do offer yer thoughts!

    Some suggestions so far:
    - a pie baking competition (just like last year)
    - a barn dance
    - a massive fireworks display
    - a story competition about the Green Dragon, the best story/ies are to be told during the celebrations

Else, I am sure we'll have lots of music, poetry and the general hobbit banter, plus lots of bickering between grumpy old hobbits and the younger rascals.

Do come with more, though! Annoncements are likely made soon, so no time like the present

Joined Laurelin with a Hobbit, am doing Shire deeds, and am just waiting for Friday with tales from other worlds. Also, a confirmation that it'd be 3 PM/15:00 for my arrival would be nice (US Central Time).

I should think 3PM is the correct time for yer in US central, aye. Currently, Europe doesn't observe Daylight Savings Time, which means that our start at 8PM UK/GMT means 4PM servertime. And servertime should be the same as current US Eastern time.

After Sunday, though, Europe turn the clocks as well. So from March 25th, we're at 8PM GMT+1, which is 3PM servertime, and likely 2PM Central. Unless I am completely confuzzled, that is *smiles*

I've said this before, but I'll say it again: why can we not follow the usual maritime and aeronautical practice and express all times as time in GMT? That way you only need to know the adjustment from your local time to GMT, with two fixes per year if you are in an area where daylight saving time (or 'summer time') is applied.
Alas, I don't suppose it will happen, but I preserve the faint hope that it might

    Re: [EVENT] Green Dragon Friday

There are a few reasons, not least because many confuse GMT with the current UK time no matter if Daylight Savings time is in effect or not *smiles*

But it is Friday! So off to Bywater again, 8PM GMT (!), 4PM servertime! There should be a fair bit of news as well tonight!

And please remember that Green Dragon Friday is a hobbits very much preferred event, with dwarven visitors welcome.

Hmmmph! Primmrose wears boots when collecting wood in the Misty Mountains (all that snow!) and in Angmar (sharp rocks and gritty ash!), and she is a Fallohide, and no Stoor! Did you know that walking barefoot for hours in the snow can cause your toes to drop off? And then you'd wear boots all the time because you couldn't be proud of a handsome/pretty pair of hobbity feet for the lasses/lads to admire!

Wheeellll Lotti always wears boots, so does her father.

Wondering why i'm here? (probably wondering who I am as well!) I do brouse the forums a lot, even though I no longer play the game. I noticed Lina indicated there will be a GDF anniversarry. I would like to attend! I shall dust down Lotti's best boots for the occasion, may even bring Jimothy with me.

x Just let me know when it's happening! I mean May i'm sure, but which date. x

FYI: I play a lot of other silly games now, and a LOT of PVP... so much fun. But I miss this game a lot, sadly I only have the one of me, and it's impossible to fit so much into one night, and also be married.

    Love x

Frodo Baggins wore no shoes in Mordor, all the way up to "Mount Doom". That's worse than Angmar will ever be.

    Misty Mountains, well, maybe.

    Re: [EVENT] Green Dragon Friday

On the subject of shoes, no better start than ter read the words of the man himself. So from Tolkien's Fellowship of the Ring, Prologue, Chapter 1 - Concerning Hobbits (which is a recommended read for anyone wanting to roleplay a hobbit, really, along with the other chapters in the prologue)

"As for the Hobbits of the Shire... they seldom wore shoes, since their feet had tough leathery soles and were clad in a thick curling hair; much like the hair on their heads, which was commonly brown. Thus, the only craft little practised among them was shoe-making..."
    ..
"The hobbits of that quarter, the Eastfarthing, were rather large and heavy-legged, and they wore dwarf-boots in muddy weather. But they were well-known to be Stoors in a large part of their blood..."

So based on this, shoes may not have been widely used by Shire hobbits, but there should certainly be room fer a few shoe-wearing hobbits around

Else, grand as discussions about hobbit lore and roleplaying can be, there are a few sub-forums that may be better suited for that purpose than this particular event thread *smiles*

And hullo Lotti, grand to see yer are still around here! We're looking for an end of April celebration (likely a pre-party on April 20th, and the main event on April 27th), possibly with a few other things in-between. Details soon!

    Re: [EVENT] Green Dragon Friday

Tonight is the GDF 4th Anniversary Warmup party! So come to Bywater and join the festivities at the usual time, hobbits! 8PM UK/GMT+1!

    Some of the things planned:
•Riddle night – Bring yer riddles and try to stump yer fellow hobbits
•GDF songs night – Bring yer songs or poems about the Green Dragon and Green Dragon Friday!
•Band night – Hobbit bands are encouraged to come and play!

Else, remember the upcoming plans for the anniversary celebrations:
    - The arts competition, deadline Saturday April 21st
    - The fishing competition on Tuesday April 24th
    - The main party at the Dragon on April 27th, including the pie baking competition

All plans are detailed here. Welcome!

    GDF survival tips

Given that the Dragon can become ever so busy on some Friday nights, please remember the following (in addition to the Lorebook linked in the first post):

GDF is a hobbit event, with a few travelling dwarves welcome. If tall people want to participate, they are encouraged to roll up a hobbit.

Be careful with the use of emotes, so you don't spam your surroundings. Less is often more! Fireworks are best used outside.

The entertainment hub near the fireplace with the dancing rug can become very busy, not least with introduction of entertainers, poetry recitals and the likes. If you want to engage in long conversations with someone, the inn is roomy enough that it is possible to have them a little away from the crowd. Also, enabling chat bubbles usually makes it easier to keep track of things said.

If you want to entertain the crowds, send a /tell to the "Master of Ceremonies" hobbit (usually myself) to sign up and get a slot (entertainment offers in /say often drown in the wall of text). Tonight may be busy, so we'll just have to see how many there are room for. Just remember, if there is no time for you, there is always next Friday, or the one following!
