Can anyone give me a fairly detailed explanation on how the weapon glow system works? I know there are factors such as damage type. But I would like to know what all factors determine if and what color it glows. This would be a big help to me as i am trying to find a weapon with good stats but that also suits me cosmetically.
There are two kinds of light emanating from your weapon. There's a "flash" and there's a glow.
Flash (a brief pattern going around the weapon) comes in different colors based on the damage type - Westernesse (green), Ancient Dwarf-make (red), Beleriand (blue lightning) and Fire (faint flames), however Fire weapons are rare.
Then there's glow which means that the whole weapon will shine with a pale blue light. Glowing only happens on weapons that have + to something (e.g. +3 Damage to Beast) and the glow occurs if that something is nearby (just like it was in the movies). Flashes happen all the time.
Once you gain access to Legendary weapons you can apply different damage types to your weapon making it glow or flash the way you want.

As if in answer there came from far away another note. Horns, horns, horns. In dark Mindolluin's sides they dimly echoed. Great horns of the North wildly blowing. Rohan had come at last.

Wow....thats cool!
I knew about thw Westernesse, Ancient Dwarf, etc. glows, but I never noticed that my weapon would glow when it was near a specific type of mob when it had a + damage to (specific-type-of-mob) buff! I'll have to look for that next tme I log in!
I duel wield + goblin type damage swords, and since those things are everywhere and clustered together, I light up light a christmas tree when I'm in a mob. Its pretty neat.

Also, this is only true of Legendary Weapons, the glow from the damage types (Beleriand, Westernesse, AD) that you put on using title scrolls is relatively faint at first, and then becomes more pronounced the higher up you level the weapon.

The weapon glow is due to the Damage-type on the weapon. On legendary items such as for example a third age burglar sword, the weapon-damage are implemented on the weapon called light-dmg scrolls & fire-dmg scrolls etc.
Non legendary items such as orcbane, dropped somewhere (location?) are already implemented with some kind of damage-type.
Note that both the glow from both Damage Type and the blue glow from nearby-foes will light up brighter if you are in combat.
Also, there is a fifth Damage Type glow, Light Damage, which makes your weapon flash white. Just like Fire though, it cannot be placed upon Legendary Weapons. You can only see that flash on non-legendaries.
It may be of interest to you that on non-legendaries, the Damage Type glows look distinctly different those on legendary weapons, having less of a pattern. Westernesse is simply a green broken glow, Ancient-Dwarf is a red broken glow. Beleriand is blue lightning bolts crackling over the weapon, and Fire shows little embers swirling around the weapon. Light is a white broken glow.

In the sea without lees standeth the Bird of Hermes. When all his feathers be from him gone, He standeth still here as a stone.
Here is now both white and red, And all so the stone to quicken the dead
The Bird of Hermes is my name, Eating my wings to make me tame.
Another thing is the fact that you cannot apply two scrolls to a Legendary Weapon, to have 2 titles, and hence have two bonuses.
I've realized this just a few days ago. :#
For example if I want my bow to do +damage to orc-kind and glow in the presence of those enemies, I'd apply the Uruk-Slayer scroll to it, and the damage type would still be common with +Dmg to orc-kind.
But, I don't want the common damage type, so I applied a 'Scion of the Drowned Kingdom' scroll to change the damage type to Westernesse.
Voilá!
Not really. the damage type WAS changed to Westernesse, but I lost the +Dmg to Orc-Kind.
So it's either the glow in persence of a certain type of enemy, or the colour from Dmg type.
Is this correct, or am I missing something?
Regards.
The + damage versus mob type "glow" is also available on some quest result weapons. For example, Malendol of Taur Morvirth offers "Malendol's Sword" which is a + 7 damage vs Orc-kind weapon, nice blue glow. It's nice as an dual-wield weapon.
