I recently harvested 232 logs of Black Ash and of that 232 logs I gathered 9 Golden Flax. My experience with Lebethron and Yellow Flax fiber is about the same rate. Compared to drop rates of other crafting critical items this drop rate seems excessively low to me. Any chance of upping the drop rate?
Probably not. This has been an issue that's been brought up a number of times for a while now, with no changes what so ever. IMO, they need to double the rate....
My guess would be that they need to slow down the crafting of high-end armor. So that you are forced to grind for the various armor pieces / sets available through late game quests, raids, skirmishes, etc. Otherwise why run through Helegrod, et al, dozens of times?
Personally I've noticed that LotRO is developing into a serious grind-fest in the latter half of the game.

Except that this only applies to Tailoring? As the OP hinted at, the fibers' drop rate are "excessively" low compared to the other crit items.
That rate is pretty close to what I see at the lower levels, too. I recently did runs through the Shire and Bree for T1 and T2 flax, and I was getting about one for every 20-25 logs. I tested this over several days and at least 800 logs. So you might be remembering the early levels as easier than they really were…in my experience, it’s tough getting flax at ANY level.

Exactly. Tailors use 6 critical hit items per set of armor while Jewelers and weapon smiths use 1 critical hit item per weapon. Yet the drop rates do not reflect this ratio at all, rather, it seems almost the opposite. Seems to me a balance issue Turbine has turned a blind eye to.
