Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
I have done searches of the internet in general and the forums here in particular and had quite a time finding "good" places to find Scholar Nodes, or enemies that drop Scholar mats. Since getting to this subforum, it's been easier, but I notice that a lot of these requests and answers seem to be scattered in different threads. The Scholar's Guide, of course, lists locations, but most of these have only 1-2 nodes and a lot of critters by comparison.
I thought maybe I'd start a thread to share your experiences on some truly rich sources of Scholar Mats, specifically nodes, so there would be one easy place to find this info. For example, by following the advice on these forums, as well as from my own experience, I have found some good places for the first few tiers of Scholar that stand out from the rest:
Tier One: This one is pretty easily farmed in Bree from nodes, but for defeat-drops, Rath Teraig in Ered Luin seems to be pretty good... the goblins in there all seem to have something. Other than this, I haven't found any real "hotspots" for this level node.
Tier Two: The best place I have found for nodes is the ruins at Andrath in the far south of Bree. 3-5 nodes pop up in there, and refresh fairly quickly.
Tier Three: While there are 3-4 nodes that generally appear in the ruins to the north of the Circle of Blood in the Lone Lands, this is nothing compared to the jaw-dropping number within Iorvinas (also LL). I managed to get everything I needed to finish Mastery of tier 3 just last night from three runs through this circular dungeon... there honestly are 6-8 of them in there, including two that spawn near the entryway before you even get to the mobs!
I haven't progressed beyond this as yet, but I'm glad I didn't wait till high-level to hear about the lockers-vs-caskets thing on tier 6 and similar, so if anybody has any good advice on great places to find Scholar Nodes or drops, please feel free to add!

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
Another tier 2 good spot is Minas Vrûn, a ruin in North-Downs, near Greenway. For tier 4, a good spot I found is the wight-infested ruins in Agamaur, the northern swamp in Lone-Lands

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
I know these locs are mentioned in the Scholar's Guide, but for Tier 4 nodes, the wight ruins north of Thorenhad, which includes Ost Chall, have 5-6 nodes per run. Basically, if you start at the beginning and take the horse through the ruins, you can turn right around and pick up respawns with only about a minute delay at most.

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
For tier 5 mats, Haudh Iarchith is like Vegas. Not only are there nodes that you can keep picking up on runs, but the mats drop from almost every wight. It's also a great way to get Bree rep completed. You also get a lot of lowered tier nodes, so you can stock up on them there while you get your tier 5s rather than running back to the old locations for mats.

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
For Master tier, the Lonesome Stones ruins in Forochel has several nodes that spawn at or around the following spots:
13.9N, 73.7W
13.9N, 74.7W
13.8N, 74.1W
13.7N, 74.0W
13.5N, 74.6W
I farmed for about an hour or so last night and got 35 Long-Lost Second Age Texts, which I was having a lot of trouble finding before, plus about the same count of the other mats for that tier.

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
Rath Teraig was awesome for node farming while i was there, i will certainly be going back there when i run out of items to stock up.
Andrath in Bree is a real good place too, if you're high enough level at that point to not aggro everything in there and die immediately lol.~ Check Out My Page For Blog Entries & Screenies! ~

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
I dont understand this. I spent an hour inside there, and only picked up 4 texts and 12 moon letters. This is rediculous compared to other places to farm scholar mats. North of Thorenhad takes 2 hrs to get to 100, and ivornas takes about an hour to get to 100. Anyone know a better place for tier 5 nodes

If your level 31+ running round in at least full Lv31 crit crafted armour, jewellry and wepaon you can kill pretty fast in here so it's not an issue, i get about 30 of each T5 in an hour, plus enough junk to sell off for 2-3G after repairs and other expenses.Haudh Iarchith

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
Tier 6 has a divide on more resources than scholar. You also see it in the ore- and wood nodes. Khazad copper/tin & Ilex for Tier 6.0 and Khazad iron/gold & Mallorn for tier 6.5.
In the scholar nodes (Lockboxes vs Caskets), the Lockboxes mostly drop Rune-carved Tablets and Etchings of Moria. The Caskets mostly drop Broken Dwarf Statues and Tattered Khuzdul Parchments. I don't know which of the two drop Relics of Khazad-dûm the most. There, however is a chance to find all five T6 scollar matts in both Lockboxes and Caskets (and of course the T6 Scholar Crit item, Bright Lamp). I guess such a node (which also usually has more than the usual amount of scholar items) is like the 'Bountiful'/'Rich'/'Heavy' ones with other resource nodes...
Beside the Lockboxes and Caskets there are also Lockers (found outside Moria in lvl 60+ areas), which as far as I know, drop the same content as the Caskets.Last edited by Miridor_eu; Jul 07 2011 at 02:10 PM.

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
At the risk of sounding like an old geezer, spending an hour or 2 and getting a 100 of anything is amazing. Over time the mat requirements have dropped by half and - I think - by half again. The Historian has amazing recipes which everybody needs. You can't get to Supreme over night. If you want to get Kindred with the Scholar's Guild, you are doing them all over again. It takes time. If it's agro that prevents anybody from scouting out more ruins, return at a later level and in the end you probably saved more time.
Ruins have always been the best results over mob drops. Do a circuit while questing or doing killer deeds and you will get plenty. If you select one place and keeping waiting for node refreshes, you will go bonkers!
These are good posts though to help folks save time. The ruins Naerost (sp?) in the Lone Lands just past Weathertop are good for Tier 3 nodes. Figure out the jump on the last set of stairs back toward the outside wall and it saves having to run all the way around! In Moria the crafting repeatable quest between the 21st Hall and the Chamber is a fun ride and you will be swimming in tier 6 mats.
So there will be another Tier for crafting with RoI? Sweet. I can't wait to explore more ruins. I think scholar node collecting is the most fun of all the crafts.

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
Here's what I've found during the last week of leveling scholar proficiency (Aug '11):
Tier 1 (Shattered Pitchers): Combe, Chetwood South, and Midgewater Marshes
Run the circuit of these 4 locations. If you like you can add in Chetwood North as well. I didn't bother with the locations west of Bree since they are farther away. By the time you complete the circle, the nodes will have respawned.
http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Resou...ttered_Pitcher
Tier 2 (Broken Urns): South Guard Ruins
Park it here. You can run to the other locations if you really want, but South Guard Ruins has 4 spawns that pop fairly quick. I waited a couple minutes in between each cycle, which was less than running to other locations.
http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Resource:Broken_Urn
Tier 3 (Antique Vases): Iorvinas
If you go elsewhere, you're a masochist. Iorvinas has 8 spawns, and you can just run around the ruin in a circle. Very easy.
http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Resource:Antique_Vase
Tier 4 (Forgotten Texts): Nan Tornaeth
It's lots of running around, but this is the best I've found. Amon Varadh, Minas Ciliant, Ost Chall, and Ost Brandras are all part of the same complex (roughly), so you can just go back and forth. I had to wait a few minutes in between each set of spawns, but the fact that they were all fairly close made this the best option as far as I can tell. Amon Varadh seemed to have the most spawns (2-3) at a time.
Tier 5 (Ancient Vases): Barad Morlas & Pembar
I don't know what the people above are thinking, but I went to Hauth Iarchith. Tier 5 scholar mats (Long-Lost Second Age Texts and Undeciphered Moon-Letters) do not drop from mobs there. I spent a while farming the mobs, and all I got were tier 4 mats. I then went to Gabilazan, and all that's there is apparently 2 spawns. Bleh. Finally, I went to Barad Morlas & Pembar. KA-CHING! Pembar has 2 spawns, and Barad Morlas has 4-5 at a time. They aren't too far apart, so you can ride in between as well.
Tier 6 (Sage's Locker, Sage's Casket, Sage's Lockbox): Moria
I haven't noticed any particularly concentrated areas in Moria for scholar nodes, but maybe that's because I just love Moria in general (big dwarf fan) and can run around just killing mobs & gathering scholar nodes for hours. At this high a level, you're probably not going to be able to ignore mobs anyway, so the farming isn't going to go as fast as it can with the lower tiers above.
FYI, I did tiers 1-5 at a much higher level than the local mobs, which were all grey to me. So, I was able to ignore them completely and only collect scholar nodes. If you have to deal with mobs, your mileage may vary greatly.
Happy researching!

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
I'm always running out of Rune-Carved Tablets and now also Broken Dwarf Statues (ever since the Champ's Potion of Fervour came to be).
I run the Scholar crafting instances every three days (upon reset) in Moria. When facing the doors, take the...
*left door for Lockboxes (Rune-Carved Tablets)
*right door for Caskets (Broken Dwarf Statues)
I think most Scholar crafters find that they have plenty of the other three T6 mats.

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
There's a nice concentration of scholar nodes along the east side of the Silvertine lodes. The mobs there are low enough level that I think they turn grey when you are about level 62 or so? Also, there was a deed to complete there as well (slaying dragonets I believe) so you could work on that and collect mats at the same time.

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
For Tier 5, Imlad Balcorth isn't too shabby. Stick to the eastern side, as the western half is devoid of spawns. There's usually a good half a dozen nodes in that area. The only problem is for on level scholars, as nodes tend to spawn down in Gwambar which is full of signature mobs.
For Tier 6 scholar instances in Moria are obviously good, but also around Western Durin's way up as far as Durin's crossing is plentiful with nodes full of rune carved tablets. In Lothlorien, running between Lady's Rest and Vinyards will give a constant node supply and is especially good for dwarf statues.Main: Tirnolwe of The Lost Companions, Laurelin (75LM)
Alts: Silithil (75CHP) Campion (75GRD) Alunadail (75MIN) Geirdis (75CP)

AGAIN WRONG.I don't know what the people above are thinking, but I went to Hauth Iarchith. Tier 5 scholar mats (Long-Lost Second Age Texts and Undeciphered Moon-Letters) do not drop from mobs there.
They drop, but like all drops it's not from every mob, you'll get them on average from about 1 in 10, (but multipule per mob that does drop is normal in there). I was back in there today with a 51 Alt, actualy grinding trash for money, but in 30 minutes of grindign i got about 400 mob kills and just over 30 of each type of T5 Mat. Given that there's 2 deed in there asking you to kill 900 mobs, and getting enough spirit kills will get you alot of excess wight kills you can expect to kill 1200-1500 mobs per character minimum while sorting your virtues out. So a couple of stacks of each is normal. Just don't expect to go in cleatr the place once and come out with more than a half a dozen of each.

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
You can. I did, farming Dye mats, as Dyes do not ever require a Supreme Study and higher level Dye recipes are generously sold in the Auction House (purchased with revenue from Supreme Farming). You don't even need to be high level, as I was only level 16 at the time.
Many people have commented with highly emotionally-charged terms on my extreme level of patience with farming ("total nutter" being one of the more polite descriptive terms used about me in chat) so it is clearly not recommended for everyone.

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
Ok, Lockers tend to drop more Rune-carved tablets and Etchings of Moria than the other three. Caskets I am not sure about. I believe my scholar got single etchings along with the other three but not tablets. The lockers drop all 5 but etchings and tablets are usually singles when they appear.

Also Taelaeri, Hobbit Minstrel 55; Sunlir, Elf Champion 36; Namri, Hobbit Burgler 61; Vaer, Dwarf Rune Caster 31; Eadalwaru, human Burglar 31; and Eadalstan, Human Captain 36; Vaerlk, Dwarf Guardian 26; Calagsun, Elf Minstrel 23; Sunlair, Elf Guardian 23; Faeled, Hobbit Minstrel 22; plus the other accounts.

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
For Sage's Lockboxes (they don't drop many tablets) go to Lich bluffs, Enedwaith. With a lvl 45+ you can avoid all skellys and barghests, even loot chests, just some caution and strategy.

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
Iorvinas - this is HEAVEN.
Also don't forget to look outside the doors.
The main entrance with the heave weaponsmith doesnt have any nodes, but the one on the right ( orc area) has one right outside.
The door in the Dwarf area has 2 in the nearby encampment.
Well worth the walk/ride when waiting for the respawn.
What are the scolar instances in Moria, and where can I find them?
I only did Moria with my Jeweller, not there yet with my Scolar, but good to know in advance.

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
The two scholar instances in Moria are about half way along the winding path that goes from the 21st Hall to the Chamber of Crossroads. If you are in the 21st Hall, and take the stable horse to Chamber of Crossroads, you can't miss it. It's about half way (give or take) and there are two dwarfs and 1 elf standing outside.

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
It's the Post-RiseOfIsengard Era, and I'm looking for tier 5 Scholar nodes, chest drops and mob drops to finish up Master level.
My Scholar is level lol30 and may not be allowed to enter Eregion. Otherwise I have been taking my lvl 50+ Hunter to hunt down the chests and mobs with little sucess. Locations have changed and it seems like the tier 5 mats have been pushed up to higher level areas. Any recommendations on where to find tier 5 mats, that I can reach with my little clan?

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
I don't think there are any t5 nodes left in Haudh Iarchith, but the mobs do drop t4 and 5 mats IIRC, and are all level 20 so grey to you. A lot slower than farming nodes, but it is an option.

Thank you for the suggestions! I have tried Haudh Iarchith, but only found tier 3-4 nodes in there and no tier 5 drops from mobs. I remember that there used to be tier 5 nodes, but apparently no more.
So I guess I will sneak off into Barad Morlas in Eregion and hit the nodes there. My Scholar is a guardian so that should help.

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
Great post. Quoted for truth.
Tier 3 (expert; antique vases):
Again, Iorvinas.
During questing, I also enjoyed Evendim very much. Mobs drop loads of mats and each ruin has 1-2 nodes standard.
Tier 4: (artisan; forgotten texts):
During questing in Evendim, you'll get some drops. Annuminas was a big disappointment however: only a handful of nodes for such a large ruin.
All you need is Agamaur in the Lone Lands. At lvl 40+ I happily ride in large circles around that red swamp and pluck the numerous nodes there. A scholar might consider questing in Agamaur once he has reached kindred with the Wardens of Annuminas, so he can gain rep in the Lone Lands.

If you review the pages of this thread you will find Tier One node locations contributed by several people. In my honest opinion, there are no real "hotspots" for Tier One nodes. There are just a few of them scattered in various areas and so it requires quite a bit of running around to get what you need to start your Scholar.
The first level of Scholar can seem to take forever. More than any other craft, Scholar is hard to get started (it's like you have to go through a period of "hazing" that tests your patience and commitment
). Fortunately, that is not true for subsequent levels and, if you have leveled your character up, at Tiers 5-6 you will find yourself swimming in scholar materials.
All the trouble is worth it though ..for the dyes and uber-potions you can use, share or sell.

Re: Plentiful Scholar Node Locations
Heads up regarding the new update (You don't even need to buy the quest pack to do this): Haldirith in Thinglad in the great river zone has 3 scholar nodes on all sides of it, each of which resets in a few minutes. Since it's a settlement, no monsters nearby.
Lots of tier 7 boxes, each of which has a good chance of being the Heavy variant with increased chance of gondorian parchment and cracked rhi helvarch.

Ered Luin Scholar Nodes for Tier I and Tier II
I respectfully disagree. In Ered Luin, for example, you can make a circuit of the ruins west and north of Celondim. They are:
Tham Gelair
Limael's Vinyard
Dol Ringwest
There are generally 1 or 2 nodes in each of these places and by running a circuit of them, they will respawn by the time you get back to your starting point. (Riding will be too fast, though patience pays ...)
For Tier Two items, the best place in Ered Luin (IMHO) is the Dwarf-city of Kheledul. There are generally 4 or 5 active nodes at a time there. They don't respawn fast enough to be able to make a smooth circuit through the city but with a little patience you can get all the T2 items you need.
