Appear offline? Play alone?
Is there a way to login in completely anonymously so that you don't appear on Kinship or Friends lists? Sometimes I just want to bang around by myself and not be bothered. I know, I know, I should just be able to tell people I want to be alone, but I hate having to repeat it over and over again....

Re: Appear offline? Play alone?
Yes, that's why it's also a bad idea to use your general ID for gaming with co-workers and whatnot.
Out sick you say? Why I saw on Steam you were playing Portal 2 when it came out!
And I agree. sometimes you just want to solo and not talk, for whatever reason you can think of. Now, even if it were possible, when someone in game sees you (this is an MMO remember--not like steam where you can play many of the games and be truly solo) they may ask why opted to do this since they can clearly see you clubbing baby seals near the Lossoth.
That is an exercise left up to you, as whatever story you tell would need to remain consistent. You'd have to appear, or the monster they were approaching would just drop dead after you defeated it, and to them it would appear if you had a magic ring of power on that made you invisible.
So I think that while the idea is sound, in an MMO it just isn't likely to be executed well.
And to think I hide when I log into chat so I don't get bombarded by people. it's not that I am unfriendly--I may log in and intend to do something besides chat, but have the chat up for work or whatever--so I completely agree with your mindset. Sometimes you want to get into the system to do your own thing.

Re: Appear offline? Play alone?
Create a new character and keep it secret. Or create a plinker on another server. Otherwise, no anonymous character development of guilded or friended characters, that I'm aware of.

Re: Appear offline? Play alone?
As suggested, the only way is to have a character no one knows about. Set them to anon and keep them out of any Kinship.
This should not be happening anymore. It was when LOTRO first launched, but it was fixed within the first year. If you see it happening then bug it. I haven't seen this occur since it was fixed, though."Everyone's got one. Better to be a smart one than a dumb one." - me
