Thread: Three Words

So, some of you all may have noticed that I hadn't been in game a lot (and only in the last couple of days have started playing again).

I've been a victim of circumstance...at first I needed a break from LOTRO and started playing a free MMO called Heroes in the Sky, where your character is a WW2 fighter plane. I was looking for a diversion that was as far from killing Elves and Dwarves as possible, so flying a HE100 fighter for the axis (of course) and shooting down other players in b-17s seemed perfect. It was fun and I was just getting ready to come back to LOTRO when my HDD failed and my computer essentially was dead.

So, I ordered a new HDD (and a new gfx card while I was at it ) and tried to restore my system. Probs with my restore disk, and many calls and a couple of weeks later, I finally got my system back up and running. Of course, I found another distraction, one that was a browser based game, BSG online, that I could play on my kid's netbook while i was awaitng my desktop's ressurection. (Aerilon server BTW).

In the mean time, I had what I thought (an my doc too) an infection in my armpit lymph node. It was large and painful, but no big deal and the doc was going to surgically remove it. It was headed to microbiology after the surgery for pathological testing. Unfortunately it never got that far.

The doc recognized something about the lymph node and sent it to regular pathology instead.

This is where 3 words can really shake the foundation of your world, more than any other 3 word combo I can imagine. The doc broke the news to me after surgery.

I have cancer.

There is no question about that. The lymph node came back as malignant. This was a week ago. The only question now is what kind of cancer I have. I meet with the doc today who will hopefully have full results from the lab.

I need all the good vibes as can be mustered, which is why I've posted this selfish message. I will take good vibes from whereever I can

However, I don't really want to talk about this in game as my time in game is an escape from reality. I may have a very difficult road ahead of me, and will look to escape into Middle Earth. So please don't think me rude if I don't talk about my cancer ingame. If a tell goes unaswered or you get a terse response back, please don't take offense....I'm not trying to be a ?????. I just want to spend my time in ME thinking about ME things, like ??? did they do to my hatchlings !

anyway, I know this is a pretty big bomb to drop on the community and this thread is probably somewhat of a downer, but this will be the spot from which I respond and talk about what's going on, should I feel like it.

Thank you in advance for your support. And remember as the complaining and bickering continues about the game, other players, turbine, etc....don't sweat the small stuff....

I know I am not out in the moors much but I do always enjoy seeing you out when I am out there and I always look for your post every year about the amazing Christmas light displays. You are a great part of this community so don't go anywhere!

My heart and prayers are with you Nidor medicine has come along way .This makes me very sad to hear and angry at the same time not "angry" at you old friend.But with all the petty bickering that has went on in these forums and in game.Real people is behind every alt in lotro I know it will never stop i just wanted to call it out for what it is "petty selfishness".

Stay strong Nidor my wife's aunt went through the same thing(lymph under her armpit) and beat it with alot of help from medical science,but from what she said will has alot to do with it as well.While not a very religious man myself I will still prey for you because when its all said and done "we are all one".

Nidor I wish you and your family nothing but the best. Besides good advice, modern medicine and a doctor you can trust, positivity is key. My best friend growing up battled testicular cancer and beat it about 5 years ago. He was a firm believer in keeping his sense of humor and surrounding himself with good friends and family. It sounds like you are on the right path already. While Ministry, Skinny Puppy may not be the most uplifting they may push the right buttons Stay strong Nidor.

Per your request, I wont say another word about it but offer a distraction in Middle Earth. Nothing makes a spider happier than a dead dwarf. I propose all us creeps kill Thekraken as much as possible to cheer our spider friend up.

The news from the doc is that it's melanoma. I know that's a bada$$ mofo disease...but I'm a baddera$$ megamofo, so I know it doesn't stand a chance against me.

Seriously, I am not a morose type of person. I'm a sarcastic, industrial music lov'n, optimist. I can poke fun at myself and what I know is a very serious issue, because I have to. The great news is that I "feel" fine. I feel no different than I did 10 years ago, so I didn't go to the doc because i felt sick. I went to the doc because, literally, overnight, something showed up in my armpit that hurt and i knew that wasn't supposed to be there.

My hope is that this is localized to just that lymph node, and it's not anywhere else and with meds and modern science this will be an easy fight....a horrific scare for sure, but a relatively easy treatment.

Whatever it is, and whatever it brings, I'll be ready to bring the fight though.

Gwen and I were saddened by the news of the melanoma, Nidor....it will never fail to amaze me how much impact a few words can carry, especially when they involve one's health...I learned that recently when Gwen's health wasn't up to par. Thank heaven for the new steps made in the medical field...may every single one of them be available to help you as you challenge this demon. We send all our caring thoughts and positive vibes to you and your's....with the grace of the powers that be, Nidor will roam the Moors for many years yet to come.

so, it started with bad news: that I have cancer

then the waiting to find out what kind

so then it was bad news on the type of cancer: melanoma

now I'm waiting for more news on how bad the melanoma is.

by my reckoning, I'm due for some good news on how bad it is. So here's to hope, which springs eternal, and the doc tells me next week that it's nowhere else in my body.

I have a PET scan on Monday, meeting w/the oncologist on Tuesday.

I'll have Iggy Pop running through my head during the scan. Thanks.

But seriously, Just live your life Whether the cancer kills your or not the days you have are always important no less so then when you are in a life threatening situation. But for a lot of people it takes those life threatening situations to make them realize it.

I am sure you will be fine, and the cancer will leave ya buddy, besides you have not ganked me enough yet nidor so I know for a fact you can't die.

This thread is now the first thing I do in the morning. I hope you can continue to post Bruce aka Nidor as you have time just for me personally and not these other guys/gals. Please think of funny things to say as I tend to suffer from anxiety easily and of course you know this is about me.

I have a few questions:

1. What did you do today?

2. What game did you play last night?

3. How old are your kids as I can't remember?

4. What is your wife's name and is she really gorgeous?

5. Oh and that C thing. What's the latest word on that? (I am very distraught about it and this is my way of talking about it so any info would be great bud). And of course this is about me.

6. Prayed for you already today (got a busy signal and then put on hold as they tried to figure out who the heck I was and what did I want this time). They put me in touch with an angel 7th class who asked me if I knew they were not sure who I was but found a note that I called 7 years ago about some nonsense. I had planned on returning to work, but some friends showed up to visit and I have some dr errands to run, so I think I'll put off returning to work another day. However, I do need to get back into my routine and a sense of normalcy, so going into work is necessary step.

PET scan on Monday...which will tell us if the cancer is anywhere else in my body. At this point the best I could hope for is that it's nowhere else and my lymph node sacrificed itself in the line of duty to protect my body. Tuesday, I then meet w/the Oncologist to discuss the PET scan results and possible treatment options.
