Falling in love with the guard again

Updated: Level 75 at instance 'constables and robbers' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EgEc...&feature=g-upl

Just had to post as to what made me 1. LMAO and 2. say "Guards rock"

So I heard about the morale return gear etc. so I went off to acquire all the pieces. With the update legs are added to the list.

    So running around with

    Stoneheart's Helm
    Malledhrim Hauberk of the Gloaming
    Malledhrim Gauntlets of the Gloaming
The new "Scale Leg guards of the Hill-watcher" functions like the other pieces.
Add, Wall of the Resolute Guardian

I then ran out to test it. I pulled 5 half orcs (lvl 65/66) and just watched them beat on me, I just auto attacked, chatted on the phone, ran out to buy more beer and laughed as my morale bar basically didn't move one bit and watched as Reactive Block killed them all.

Had to make a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CldtnoigSek
If you can't see it : http://www.wegame.com/watch/aoeworth...-half-orcsavi/ for original

    Crafting instance full pull: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGZMzPQF1_k

And THAT is why I love guardians!...well at least those pieces of armour anyways.

So, why do you love your Guard?

Hahaha! omg I can't wait to role that armor on my guard! Now that I know there's gear that cool for her, I might be tempted to stop obsessing over my LM and minni and lvl my Guard. The dps might be slower, but I'm getting tired of being so squishy.

    This is nothing new

lots of fun blowing out 10+ mobs. Guardians have been soloing up to 20 mobs since SOA. the big one in moria was guard's rolling through Spider den in 1 pull. for those leveling give it a try at level 60

Re: Falling in love with the guard again

I wanted to add my 2-cents to this thread. After reading it I thought it looked like enough of a challenge to see if I can replicate the experiment. So a-crafting I went, I finished Vol 3 so I could get those Pants. Got the Reactive Block legacy after I realized that's why I failed the first time through and ... fantastic! It works especially in Skirmishes. It also seems the more guys hitting you the better. Went into Trouble in Tuckborough, and three others, (with a friend) my green bar hardly moved. When it did, by the end of the fight I was back at full strength. By the way, did an SG run yesterday with the same setup, works great too. Haven't done any of the new content but will give it a go when I can.

Thanks for the post on this! Well done

(squint) Put your back to the WALL, soldier. Moar blox == moar reflections.

Anyway! Phun! I was very suspicious of the healing/mitigation idea for a long time, but converted completely after the first time I tried it. With the demise of Radiance, I never bother to change these pieces out, especially after the lovely gift of our Book 3 Pantz. I tend to prefer Dithalion's shield over the Resolute Guardian, but only because it looks more elfy.

    Thanks for sharing, Aoeworth.

Just a follow-up, Aoeworth -- may I ask what Legacies you're sporting on the active Belt during these videos?

Obviously Reactive Block increase is set to max at 2100%, but do you also have Shield Damage or increased Shield Use Rank? The reason I'm asking is I'm curious what's needed for your Reactive blocks to be ringing in at the 125-135 range.

    Thank you in advance.

Re: Falling in love with the guard again

That crafting hall pull has cleared up my question as to why
they made the dwarf a champion in the We Cannot Get Out
session play. If it was a guard, the dwarves would have won
and there'd be no goblins, orcs or trolls left in moria for the
    rest of us to fight.

Well done OP! That's an impressive little guard build you have
    there.

Correct, I've got Shield Damage maxed out. Shield use rank no (but I'm sure more points in it may increase the damage, but it's a poopie belt anyways) Power restore on reactions and increased block and increased parry. In any case, ranking up Shield use/damage doesn't affect the reactive block damage.

Just glad some have liked it and love Guards more, we need the love :P

after trying out other classes, the guardian is by far the most fun out of the bunch for me... can trait in overpower mode and solo quests, while also having the capacity to retrait as a shield user for grouping... dethroned the champion as my main, and haven't looked back since... looking forward to leveling up to get a hold of some LIs and more traits...

Great post & awesome video too.

Since reading this post I have been playing with the mention pieces, plus the North Cotton Farm bracelet (I guess i best get a cuff from Grand Stairs too) and walking into Moria instances for kicks, I truly recommend Fil Gashan's kitchen mobs, lol so much fun. Also for kicks run into Uru and pick up all the Goblins and sit on the bridge with all of them.

Is this viable for every day tanking use or are you sacrificing too much for this survivability? I ask now before I spend the 50 leaves on these patterns

That depends entirely on what it is you're tanking every day, and your definition of viable. If by viable you just mean "it can be done", certainly. If by viable you mean "people won't look at you funny", probably not.

Re: Falling in love with the guard again

I just happened to rediscover how much I loved my guardian recently, so I decided I'd chime in. My main is obviously a burg(by my signature) and I will sweat currently when I pull 4+ mobs at once.(popping cooldowns to survive, CC'ing as much as possible, etc.) Comfortable easy(no healing food or CD's or pots) pulls are just 2 at a time.

Then I hopped over to my 34 guardian a couple days ago and the fight isn't even remotely interesting unless I pull 5+ at a time.(I run with a shield for now) It was so fun feeling nearly invulnerable that it was absurd.(plus with that many mobs on me, my block/parry responses pop like crazy) And I find it wildly satisfying to do the block reaction shield-smash-to-the-face skill, whatever its called.(the added stun is just gravy, I mainly love the way the action looks and sounds) Running in block stance with +power on block slotted and block reactions popping all the time for the self-heal and face-smash-stun, i end big pulls at nearly max morale/power with no effort at all. I do have the best possible crafted armor, shield, and weapon, though, so that magnifies the guard's already crazy advantages.(the auto-crit crafting guild stuff)

37 now and Looking forward to trying out overpower in earnest at 39 (when the 5th class skill slot unlocks, so i can slot harasser + full 4-slot overpower traitline bonus). Doesn't seem worth it yet with only 4 slots to use.

    Man, I love my guardian!

Re: Falling in love with the guard again

I was wearing Scale Leggins in OD last night and they healed me more than the Cappy did! :P Just pulled the Stoneheart Helm out of the vault and did the same pull as the OP did in the video. Was a bit more difficult because I don't have the damage negation pieces or the healing gloves. Was still a ton of fun though but it left me wondering.

Obviously the the damage negation pieces are very useful and practical when you're fighting normal on level mobs who hit for 120-300pts per hit on average. With the Gloaming chest that's essentially a 20%-8% mitigation if it procs and with a 75% chance I'm betting that happens a lot. But have you tried this set up while tanking a raid, something like Durchest or Gortheron. My first instinct is to say no the damage negation pieces are going to be next to useless when the boss is hitting for 600 pts per hit minimum with 1200+ hits fairly often.

Can you confirm or deny that this is the case?

That is the case. When you're tanking something huge, it's entirely about mitigation, avoidance and morale pool to give healer's breathing room.

So went out and did the Lhanuch dailies today. Pulled ten half orcs and a warg over by the ruined cartrev. They died I lived and reactive block did over 17,000 points of damage!! WEWT! Loving the two heal proc pieces I have and the reactive block legacy on my belt, can't wait to finally find someone to make me the heal proc gloves.

The four pieces in the OP.....where do you get those?

Any info would be great, thanks.
Stoneheart's Helm is a Moria tier 1 barter.

Wall of the Resolute Guardian is a drop from Igash in the Grand Stair. You can also substitute Dithalion's Heavy Shield, which is a reward from 2.6.5.

Scale Leg Guards of the Hill Watcher is a reward from 3.3.11.

Re: Falling in love with the guard again

I just wanted to weigh in and say I am enjoying this build (I am 62 so havent gotten crafted pieces or leggings yet). Its not quite as effective whie leveling since my gear isnt top notch in the other slots but with broins guards/wall of res guard/stonehearts helm it's very nice.

Also these are a must keep until you hit 65 if you want to try this setup, not the greatest stats but the heal is amazing for lvling from 50+:

I have all the pieces you have except the shield (plus Insidious Cuffs, reactive block, reactive block legacy and power restore on reactions), but I've never tried that 'cause ppl say it sucks, but I guess they're wrong

Oh btw the Insidious Cuffs will break after a few pulls :P

Re: Falling in love with the guard again

The big question is for me ... " are there any new armor pieces in the beta which provide similiar stats for this game style " ? I hope so. They even put some good loot into the OD Raid, some pieces are a little better then the mirkwood carfting stuff is. So I am hopefull that there will be some new pieces.

Re: Falling in love with the guard again

Well i almost killed my kin members hunter in spar.
Mele range and only thing i used was guardian ward every 20 secs and auto attacks.

He droped to 500 hp from 7700 when he finaly managed to kill me.
And no reactive block sloted . . .
    I don't know half of you half as well as I should like;
And I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
