great ideas! i think kinships are very important in the game and these ideas could make them even better, i also think kinships give some players a reason they want to play
/signed and if you need me to sign it again I will.
Great ideas herculic work. What with the alliences in the game kinships are losing their former importance and your suggestions are all so well placed and you have put so much work into this thing by explaining in pictures. Even Turbine does not explain their ideas as well as you do. If they dont offer you a job already at least I hope you will be on the player council. I would like someone like you to represent the players' interests. One who works hard and is full of brand-new bright ideas to make gaming better. *bows in respect*
in arkenstone, most of the players are already in a kinship so i would say the current kin system is doing just fine there & i'm assuming in other worlds as well
the only problem with the kinships is that players often stop playing for long periods of time so you should address that problem first before designing a kin revamp, revamp should not be just for aesthetics w/c i don't see in your proposal, at any rate, purpose & fun should be at the forefront of a kin revamp, & by fun, i mean fun for all, owner/officer & member
i've always maintained that a good kinship comes with a good kin leader regardless of the features
all these things are great ideas especially the bit about having different chests that can be set for different ranks but all the upgrades you say turbine can sell to make a profit how would they be paid for? is it all the leaders responsibility to but the TP for it or would you have a system like the kin bank you suggested but for TP.
I think the best way to get this in to LOTRO would be to get it into one of the expansions so it could be like mounted combat was for Riders of Rohan because all the new major updates will need something but you would need a lot of support from players.

The kinship right now indeed works, but there are so many possibilities to improve it. As this thread shows.
In my country there is a saying which seems fitting here:"in the land of the blind, one-eye is king."
I think a lot of the things you suggest the World of Warcraft already uses; and I might add the benefits of joining a guild are highly increased. It also makes for more fun when you do guild/kin events and earn special bind to account privileges such as : level 1-60 armor and weapons that increases with the players level. I also like the idea that being in a guild/kin you can get extra crit chances on skills like picking herbs, crit items from nodes, etc. You have some great ideas; and I hope that Turbine does consider changing things up for the increased gaming fun.
Good point but it's important to remember that World of Warcraft had not a single innovation in it. Every feature was adopted from one earlier game or another. The brilliance of WoW is how cleverly it chose what to adopt, how well it integrated it all, consistent art direction and - most important of all - the fewest bugs of any MMO before or since.
Once you get too far down the buggy path there is no recovery. How buggy your game is lay at its skeletal core formed beginning on its first day of development. But adopting wonderful features from the days when online gaming's strong suit was persistent, integrated communities simply make sense.
I take it from your forum name that you're a fan of the Moody Blues?
The proposal presented is awesome and would love to see some if not all of these features implemented in the game. But I noticed the original post date, March of 2011, Me thinks Turbine isn't paying attention to what would make the kinship options better
The main proposal I would love to see implemented is the kin house chest log, due to the fact that our chests were raided several times and had to lock them. Now only a select few have access.
Galuhad, you rock!
Turbine needs to hire this guy!!

Actually Turbine is aware of this as was revealed in the last Twitter dev chat.
Problem is - a problem is you value this highly - is that they said it would not make the list this year. Housing would come first. They cited the scope of this as the reason.
There is another upcoming dev chat. I asked for more detail regarding putting housing ahead of improved in-game community design. Perhaps if others did as well we'd get a better idea of where this stands.
First let me say that while I have played the game solid for over 4 years this is my first post, yes I am one of those soloish players who runs his own kinship of family members only so we are small. I love the idea's you have put forth here but I would add one thing to your listing or perhaps request a change. As you noted above about the heraldry and banners, what if with some of your tokens you could buy and members of the kin could buy the kinship heraldry banners to place on their houses, not in the yard but draped down the front of the houses or kinship house in proper locations? Or even on some of the fences out front? Also if we had the what I call Yard Guards (I think we have the elf maiden out front) if they could be dressed in kinship attire or wear the tabbard? Just food for thought. oh and /sign YES.

Congratulations on your first post
These are nice ideas you put forward. Hopefully this will be something else that gets considered when/if they get around to revamping kinships.
I like em, I really do, but kinship mechanics shouldn't be over complicated. I like logging in, and helping a kinmate do a zone, not all these fancy doodads and gizmos.
Hope they do make it in for you, but I certainly won't make use of them.

(PS: Stop making me feel old)
All of that will be intact. The only features Galuhad and others ask for include an enhancement as to how the members can benefit from being part of a kinship at a greater level. The introduction of customised ranks and permissions, guild quests and other features will add to the simple effort of helping a kinmate complete a quest. Indeed, I hope Turbine implement all these features when the time comes. It's promising that they gave an official response on this twice.
...and I mean WoW. I am making the dangerous assumption that the OP has played World of Warcraft as a lot of these suggestions seem to come from there. And why not. If there's one thing that WoW does well, it is the guild management system. This is indeed something that could help lotro retain more members.
A small addition to the suggestions if I may. Shared kinship storage. The 3 chests in the kinship house is as near to pathetic as it gets. Even in a small guild you'd struggle to manage resources. Consider increasing the storage significantly to allow members to share crafting materials, recipes, potions, food, ingredients etc. With 3 chests there's room for some food and potions, a few mats and recipes but then it's full. You can't actually do anything useful with 3 chests. A Kinship house needs to support at least 10 chests but preferably even more.
I know this is make some people irritated and some other will dismiss what I say, and that is fine. I have played this game off and on since closed beta and I feel, at least to some degree, that I have a good handle on how Turbine works.
I love this proposal and am appreciative for all the work that went into it. I am thoroughly convinced that this, or anything like it, will never happen. This proposal has been on this site for 2 years now. Think about that for a second. Two years have gone by with NO response from the development team. It has been viewed almost 80,000 times and almost a 1,000 replies. This goes beyond Turbine simply focusing on other issues. I am no longer convinced that Turbine cares about its community and their negligent behavior towards something obviously a large group of people are asking for further reinforces that. I love this game, but no longer believe in, support, or care about Turbine.
Galuhad, your post brings many great ideas into focus.
I hope the Players' Council and the LOTRO devs will use it as a talking point.
The ideas were all very attractive to me, except for what sounded like a forced merger of allied kinships: An alliance will be formed when a kin leader invites another kin leader to join an alliance, by default the originating player will become the alliance leader.. The alliance leader will be the only one who can invite an additional kin or disband the alliance.
The leader will also have the option to merge the alliance kins into one kin (by default the alliance kins will fold into the alliance leaders kin
With that one exception, consider your creative proposal
