What force taunts do hunters have?

I was in a group with a hunter earlier today, just killing mobs that weren't too tough. He attacked first, in strength stance I think. I popped defiant challenge just for the heck of it, but the mob didn't come to me. The only way that could happen is if the hunter had used some sort of force taunt, right?

Warden forced taunt is AoE. You prolly goobered it and the mob was out of range.

Or you didn't have it traited.

Either way, 99% chance of user error.

Re: What force taunts do hunters have?

    Couple things that can happen:

    • The mob is in the middle of an induction, animation, or CC that lasts for longer than DC does. It will not switch targets until its action is completed, so it ends up not switching at all. DC also takes some time to take effect, and your perception of when it should be working could be skewed.
    • Not sure if DC can get resisted.
    • Out of range.
When you DC, you'll want to look for the lionhead icon in the mob's debuff bar as an indicator that your skill is affecting it, even if it doesn't switch targets immediately.

I realized I was on my wife's account for the last post.

I will add one more possibility to Rainy's. DC could be bugged. It would be surprising, but possible. I seem to remember once or twice that I cast DC in the middle of a bunch of mobs and no-one switched to me. I always attributed it to DC being interrupted somehow. I will be paying closer attention in the future.

Re: What force taunts do hunters have?

I'm also wondering if DC can get resisted if someone is all-out DPSing one of the mobs you're trying to get back. I'll get 1-2 but the third will be stuck on the uber champ or the strength hunter, despite the pretty red arrow and the damage reflect... No idea.

Re: What force taunts do hunters have?

Lets see.. the actual question is can hunters in DPS strength stance with the first hit aggro bonus out aggro a warden's defiant challenge? I coulda sword the answer was always hands down yes, because DC, which I personally have stopped traiting, will not over come that burst damage. I however, belong to the you tank it, you spank it attitude and when the hunter dies, the mob will come back to me unless the mini/RK foolishly tries to heal the hunter instead of me.

I think the point of the OP is that DC is not an aggro generating skill but a force taunt which, by definition, is supposed to pull in spite of burst damage etc. So it's not a question of "out aggroing" DC any more than you could "out aggro" a champ's challenge.

My guess is that it was resisted. I know other force taunts in game have a chance to be resisted, (like Champion's Challenge) so I suspect DC does too.

when I saw the title I thought it was gonna be complaining about how wardens can't hold aggro. Also, if he was actually asking about what force taunts HUNTERS have then he probably would have posted on the hunter boards, but now I see he just wants to know if DC is bugged or not, "is DC bugged?" probably would have been a better title.

DC must have either resisted, been out of range, or untraited. And hunters don't have force taunts.

because force-taunts all work the same and this is the only one anybody thinks is bugged.

one of the possibilities that I assumed was covered by "user error" was maybe you don't understand exactly who gets the force-taunt from DC. If it still works the same as it used to (I haven't traited it since they made it so you can't interrupt the animation) it force-taunts the mobs that were around you at the START of the animation, not at the end.(and the force-taunt applies after the animation)

Reason I untraited DC was because I have never had it pull mobs off anyone, (even that room in GB that has like 20 mobs when you walk thru the door) but the guard in my fellowship just yells and they all whimper and come over to him. It never worked for me as anything but something for my mini to say, cool graphic.

Re: What force taunts do hunters have?

Works fine for me, resists not withstanding. I only occasionally slot it for giggles with the damage reflect in HoC, but I've not had problems with it in there.

Also, damage reflect buff gets applied regardless of whether or not it gets resisted.

User error is possible, but other options too(as noted). Resists, mob in animation/cc, etc.

A note about people saying it might not have been traited though: if you try to use DC while untraited it'll be SoV. Noticeable difference.

I still don't get your point. I do understand how force taunts work, and it is possible this is the only one that is bugged. It is also possible it was resisted.

Knowing that the OP is Banaticus, I discount user error or out of range.

Worked fine for me in BG on Thursday (having some aggro issues learning the instance... having to trait DC for Durchest is like a personal affront).

*sigh*... Wardens will probably beat guardians 9 times out of 10 in an agro competiton. The guaard can copy as much threat as they want... but the warden will have another tick coming right up.

No need to *sigh* He is comparing our force taunt to the Guardian's force taunts. They win.

Re: What force taunts do hunters have?

In addition to the other possibilities, you may occasionally find mobs that are immune to force taunting, although they tend to live in instances and it sounds like the OP was on the landscape.

And there other mobs (Pale Folk in particular) which are permanently enraged and thus also effectively immune.

Finally, I am pretty sure Trick: Enrage > Force Taunts.

That said, the most likely failure modes are the mob running out of range while you are building the gambit, or the skill being resisted.
