Re: Avatar editing for My Kinship page in the community site.
This problem has not gone away . . .It is really frustrating that it has not been fixed yet. It worked fine in the old MYLOTRO site, perhaps we should return to that when everything worked fine. Any updates to how long this patch is going to take?

Avatar editing for My Kinship page in the community site.
Where's a wizard when you need him, huh? Get out the old magic staff and strike a light! My kinship's avatar is as dark as night. Well, in fact, I returned it to its default, shady-elf state. But we ain't all elves, Sir! We wants our proper picture. We Wants Our Proper Picture. WE WANTS OUR PROPER PICTURE, so we does. Gives it to us, yessss, pleaseess us it would. Be nice to usss, yesss. Poor old kinships deserves better we do.
C'mon guys: get it sorted. Er, well, if you know how, hmmm? It'd be a very good Christmas/Yule present
Ah, no doubt you're all busy with other things, I understand. We're only teh punters, after all.
Hope you have time soon; really I do. And others besides, it seems.

Agreed. It would be great to see things that have been left broken for so long fixed instead of other new stuff added (I have faith, though, I mean, lottos are working again, so this can't be far behind, right?) *crosses fingers*

Simply frustrating that no one seems to care enough to even answer anymore... I really do love this game and I can guess that everyone is having a lot to do, but to think I would handle my customers in the same way... *sigh*

Re: Avatar editing for My Kinship page in the community site.
Still not working, years after the first post about it. I know it's not a big priority, but there must now be an awful lot of kinships with black squares for avatars.

I can't access the kinship screen *at all*. There is a massive problem with MyLotro at the moment and it is, in particular, affecting the older kinships from the migrated former EU servers.
And all we get from Turbine is vague information that the bug has been submitted to the web development team, but there is no timeframe on when this will be fixed.
I've given up completely.
Main: Tirnolwe of The Lost Companions, Laurelin (75LM)
Alts: Silithil (75CHP) Campion (75GRD) Alunadail (75MIN) Geirdis (75CP) Turbine no plans to fix MyLotro.
Re: Avatar editing for My Kinship page in the community site.
I missed this thread while browsing the forums. Tried today to change my kins avatar with no success. Google searched thinking it was wanting a specific file format only to find this thread. Before doing much research I started with PNG, then tried JPG, then tried different browsers, then different versions, then remade the files to be the correct size, then searched to see if it was something else.... sigh! Wish I had started with the, "is this even supposed to be working" (on another tangent... this game needs a thorough known issues list more than it needs anything else IMHO).
Friendly reminder that this still doesn't work
Was all excited too as I'm really fond of Avy the Avatar:
Re: Avatar editing for My Kinship page in the community site.
Well it Jan 2012 and I thought I was doing something wrong then found this thread started in 2007, all with the same problem. Apparentlly it is not on anyone's short list to fix, 4 years with the same problem. Wonder if I can forward to posting to tech support to fix.
Well I copied the shortcut and sent the thread and submitted it to tech support.
Hope this will help

Re: Avatar editing for My Kinship page in the community site.
WOW!! I just checked the first date for the thread and it was started OVER A YEAR AGO! I've just tried to change the avatar for the kinship page and... nothing. Just a black square. No cropping option. Same as a year ago. WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON DEV'S!? Pull your fingers out and pix this bug. Please.
Re: Avatar editing for My Kinship page in the community site.
Yeah when are they going to fix this iv been trying to put up a kin avatar for atleast a week now and it only shows a boring black square. I was hoping that this would be fixed in the close future. Turbine if you read this please try and do somthing about it before you get an angry mob at your door chanting for this to be fixed.

Re: Avatar editing for My Kinship page in the community site.
Since this appears to not be a priority on anyone's list that can fix it, can it at least be disabled? How many people are going to waste time trying to post an avatar without realizing that it is not actually possible? I know I did - most of a morning wasted! And the ironic thing is I can post the avatar on my personal preferences - but not on the kin page! So I move we disable the whole thing and replace it with just a single Picture of a Kin House until someone at Turbine can take the time away from fixing game bugs to fix this. That way new kins won't waste game time trying to post an avatar since it won't even show up as an option.

Yes, I definitely agree. It's not so much that we cannot post a kin avatar to what we want it to be. It's simply the frustration that is involved with trying to do it and not realizing that hundreds and possibly even thousands of other people already know it doesn't work. It's misleading when it gives you the option to do it and then doesn't let you change the avatar.
Please just take the option away until it is fully functional!
Thanks!

Re: Avatar editing for My Kinship page in the community site.
These are the sorts of things that make me not want to play. The game has issues yes, but forum/community issues that really shouldn't be that difficult to fix ending up on a perpetual list just frustrates the heck out of a kinship officer/leader.
I can't fix our kinship avatar. I can't get roster updates into our kinship site because mylotro is borked all the time. I can't try to add new tools, functionality to our site utilizing mylotro. Looking up character names etc. to try and contact people or just remind me of what someone's class was is impossible (stinking error messages). The lorebook search is wretched. Why can I always find what I want easily at lotro-wiki.com (which is also a WIKI), but the lorebook can't find its own categories unless I trip over them by accident...
Being really involved in LOTRO is more than just logging in and playing the game. The out-of-game aspects need to work too. Their lack of ability is effecting other businesses too. We have our kinship site hosted at GuildLaunch. It offers easy kinship/guild sites for the gaming industry, and they are able to do all the heavy lifting creating tools and widgets so I don't have to. However, with mylotro borked most of the time, they aren't able to offer any new tools for us, and the stuff they did develop doesn't work. It's not their fault, they can't make the current stuff work or develop new tools until Turbine fixes their end of things. So, we are basically paying for a forum that occasionally is able to import character information. Whoopie-doo...
Sapience, Clover and all the rest are great. I get that they are not the folks responsible for making the fixes. However, Turbine as a whole should just admit they currently stink at providing community/kinship resources, and decide if they are going to invest in community support or not.

Re: Avatar editing for My Kinship page in the community site.
Still not working and still not disabled. come on Turbine, this is crazy. you said it was on your list Waaaay back in 2007. This is the 5th anniversary and it's still not working, nor is it disabled so that more kinship's don't waste their time trying to use it, like we did.
I'd settle just for the large version if it would let me do that.
Since April, 2008? Is it still on your list or are we too busy scheming the store to increase revenue? I have been playing this game for one year constantly for my own reasons. I have submitted numerous tickets for various reasons and every response has been very similar: ''Please contact another department as they are better equipped to resolve your issue.''
I really don't know what to say that doesn't involve degradation but has the community site been in beta since 2008? When will Turbine take it's customers seriously? When will you see our problems as your problems? Lord of the Rings Online surpasses any other MMO I've played when it comes to potential. This is a great game which could be much better with satisfactory customer service.
I am in no way a die-hard Lord of the Rings fan but I do enjoy this game, however insufficient customer service is making me lose interest. I have had quite a few technical issues with this game but that is not what tires me, lack of responses or help/fixes are. Not once have I felt like a valued customer. Sure I know I'm just one person with just one problem but just like all great online games, there is Strength in Numbers.
Wish my Kinship could have a unique avatar to represent us and separate us as unique on the forums.
Long Live Lord of the Rings Online!

The age of this thread is pretty disheartening, though.
I've been looking at using the kinship site, but there are a number of issues and clunkinesses that make me doubt I can make it easy enough to use that my kin will use it, so why bother? Right now we have a Facebook group which is very easy, and can do everything, and almost everyone is happy to use it since it's already in a feed they're visiting regularly. This works out okay because almost everyone in the kinship is people who know each other personally so we don't mind seeing each other's real names, but we're already running into the issue of having people who don't want to share their info (or we don't want to share ours with them). I don't think it's worth paying $10+/month for a "guild site" on a pay service. It seems like this WordPress site is 90% of the way to being what we'd need, but no one's looked at that last 10% for... four years, is it? Disheartening.
Any news on this front, or has the kinship site system been left untouched that long, really? Anyone have any advice for a better option?
Wish I had found this thread before wasting time trying to get the annoying thing working! If it's been broken as long as this, I'm not going to hold my breath for a fix any time soon.
Wow, I was certain I would find the solution here.
It looks like this needs ANOTHER bump.
When I saw that this problem started in 2007, I thought for certain there would be a solution to this. Imagine my surprise when I saw there wasn't.
Is there ANY update to this, Turbine? I mean, if the personal avatars are working fine, surely this can't be too difficult to fix. Certainly not difficult enough to take five years to solve? I realise there's a LOT on your plates, especially with the RoR launch coming in September, but this is a lingering issue that I think just keeps getting forgotten about.
Re: Avatar editing for My Kinship page in the community site.
And almost a year later(to the beginning post anyway), still not fixed. At least for me anyway. I hope they fix it soon, I mean, I know they're busy with Rohan and things like that, but it's all in the details..
SO I cropped, re-cropped, saved the picture in all possible extensions ,formats and sizes. Used all types of internet browsers and in the end I finished a bottle of wine. After the wine I felt I am a bit smarter googled for a solution and found this thread. Now I sincerely feel like opening another bottle.
Here's one more on the list of people who have noticed this issue is sitting on the table for far too long.
The environment our kinship provides is conducive to getting players to play longer and spend more money on the game. The superior quality of the Lotro community is the driving force behind this game- which is why Turbine's constantly promoting third-party blogs and in-game events.
I mention this because we've been trying to increase our activity on the Lotro site, rather than relying on third-party providers for things like forums hosting. The forums here are sometimes impossible to navigate. The lottery may or may not work. The blog interface is clunky at best. Now I'm finding that we can't even get an avatar uploaded without running into problems.
What I don't understand is the mixed message Turbine is giving by relegating this issue to the dusty corners of the forums. You're spending time and money promoting the community, but then the official site is perpetually in beta. The team spends countless hours working on all the finer details of everything from NPC outfits to lore-friendly fluff quests, but then these little issues like dysfunctional avatars sit in the background, piled into the, "We'll get around to it someday...eventually" drawer.
I love this game! I've been playing for just under 2 years now, but I've seen both the quality and the quantity of support that Turbine provides give way to a massive tide of self-promotion (don't even get me started on the diluted bots you're calling GMs these days). You guys oughtta know...I'm a console gamer at heart, and to see this happening to the one MMO I still play is disenchanting, to say the least. I'm finding myself going back to my console(s) more and more, mostly out of frustration. In turn the kinship suffers, enthusiasm dies, the group falls apart...suddenly my subscription's not the only one you have to worry about. I wonder how many other kinship leaders out there might have given up because of poor support?
I know kinship avatars aren't a big deal. You know they aren't a big deal. But let's be honest here...It's stupid little things like this that really start to add up. It's the mounting stack of stupid little things that makes one rethink their subscription. I'm just wondering who we'd have to poke to get this little thing moved a little further up the "to-do" list.
It could be easy...throw away all the ###### crop stuff and ask people to upload pics 150x150 px and 50x50 px
This is a very simple procedure, I myself know coding so I'm pretty unsure as to what the "huge" setback is for such a small coding in the site's layout? I would like to start using this site for another option for my kinship's promotion/recruiting and would like to change the avatar and anything else that can be available to set us apart from "everyone else" on the official kin list. I'm a devoted PC Gamer and LoTRO is my number one game on my list for over a year now and have also supported the game financially through the LoTRO Store and will do so again in the future. Please help with this, Site admins. Thank you.
Remember, remember...the 28th of September! 2012! Then, I will bump this thread again...
