Thread: Avatar editing for My Kinship page in the community site.

I have been trying for several days now to put in an avatar to spice up my kinships "My Kinship" page on the LoTRO Community site. The main trouble is cropping or the lack there of. IE; the tool or function for being able to crop does not seem to exist. And therefor seems to be an issue when the upload process completes, or seems to complete but actually does not.

My steps:

1- Edit Guild Profile. Browse for file on my desktop.

2- click upload.

3- Site says, Main Avatar
Please select the area of your photo you would like to use for the avatar(50px x 50px).
And, also shows the words "Crop Preview"

4- click the only button there is to click. "Crop and Continue"

5- Site says, Alternate Avatar
Please select the area of the photo you would like to use for an alternate version(150px x 150px).

6- Once again I click the only button there is to click. "Crop and Save"

7- Site shows, The new guild avatar was successfully created!

Large Version Small Version

No picture shows up in either the Large Version or the Small Version.

This is highly frustrating and if anyone can be so kind as to offer up a solution or an explanation as to why this is happening I would be sincerely grateful.

On a side note. The fact that it shows the words "Crop Preview" suggests to me that perhaps the cropping process is possibly being skipped.

Same. I've been experiencing this issue for at least three months now, and considering the last post I've seen on the subject was from Duwis in the beginning of November, I'm beginning to doubt that there is even anyone working on fixing the community sites any more.

Can we please get some word on if this issue is even still being looked into or if there is a fix in the works?

Hmm, well romoen guess maybe we can hope the next patch deals with the issue. I hope for our sake and others your wrong about the devs not working on the community site. Perhaps its that they are working to fix all the bugs and then drop the beta tag. Guess time will tell.

May someone could check what is the problem with the crop and save please, pretty please ?

As I noticed this is the same script which is used for personal avatar cropping, so no idea why it does not work here. It can't be that hard to fix, can it.

Thank you Duwis for taking the time to let us know that. It is appreciated Im sure. But we have seen that exact thing on posts dating back to November. When you say its on your list, do you mean for the next patch, a hot fix, or as I mentioned, when you guys make final touches to the Community site and drop the Beta tag? Not asking for an exact timeline, but it has been quite awhile for this bug.

I don't have any helpful info to add, just wanted to have another person posting that our group is waiting on this fix as well...hoping more voices might raise the level of the ticket.

Still having this issue. Went to put in new kin avatar... and now our kin avatar is just a lovely black square.

I want to quickbump this thread and point out the point of error in the cropper.js code:

496       this.previewImg=this.img.cloneNode(false);
497       this.options.displayOnInit=true;

The function cloneNode() on line 496 (earlier mentioned in this thread) does not seem to exist. I highly recommend against it, because of the cross-browser buginess it causes. May I suggest a simple clone() instead?

PS: cloneNode() works on document elements, NOT classes. Sorry, nice try.

Add another kinship that has been trying to re-do their kinship avatar since this "Beta" site launched. *snorts*

I suspect that because we can't actually select an area, once we hit the "crop" button, it's just blank so we are getting a blank avatar.

We're trying to work with the new site, we really are, but honestly, it's tiresome.

This might not be due to the same issue, but I've tried uploading our kin's avatar for the last 3 days without success.

"The uploaded file could not be moved to the uploaded folder." (ie, chrome, 150x150, png, jpg, gif) :/

just tried also to add the avatar to the kinship page and having the same problems.....

BTW, why not just cut out the whole crop the avatar junk and go low tech sort of? Users could just upload both the 150px by 150px and the 50px by 50px avatars and voila, we are all happy. Lets get some hustle behind the muscle and get this solved already. This ain't brain surgery.

Has this been added to a work queue or anything, is it even being worked on? Will someone at least give us a better answer than the ONLY one we've gotten so far.

Whew! I thought I was going nuts until I found this thread. We went through the same series of steps as the initial post and are having the same problem.

Our kin on Nimrodel is having the same problem. Several of us have tried repeatedly to create the avatars without success but with much frustration and wasted time.

Just adding the weight of one more Kin wanting this fixed.

Likewise my kin is having the same problem as everyone else here with putting a kinship picture on are profile up, still get the "Big Black Screen Of Death"

Yep. Same problem here. Can't update the Kinship Avatar. How hard can this possibly be to fix??

Some people are ready to tell you that it's much more complex that it seems. And it requires months of man power to fix it and Turbine is now focused on EU transition and other things.

Yet another kinship looking forward to not have a black box on their opening page.

I know this is probly the wrong thread but ,I also have another problem my sig. it wont update either , I have maxed out on all of my crafting for Thaminail now for over 2 months and it still says I havent touched my cooking, was just wondering why and if there is a fix for it ????

Oh, we were told in this thread that it's "on the list", just not what list it's on. Kinda guessing the "No one's getting paid enough to mess with this stuff" list, at this point. Whether it's above or below "make Summer festival something other than a complete bore" on that list also remains to be seen.

bump. i agree with someone who said get rid of the cropping functionality and just have users upload images of specific sizes for maximum compatibility.

January to October for this issue? Come on.... this is all pretty sad...

I tried months ago and see that its currently still broke. Can the Devs Kindy give us a update on this, Please....? Or is there plans for the lotro website that is unknown to us? I also noticed that must still click twice from my.lotro.com page to read the forum post.... Its unusual that its not addressed after all this time even for the Devs. So I'm guessing website revamp (why fix if its going to be replaced)....

Same issue for our kin, too. Even if I could select from the database that does our personal icons, I'd be a happy camper...(hint, hint)
