The play-styles between the classes, both solo and in fellowships, are like night and day. Go with the one you enjoy more. As far as relearning the gambits, I went through that recently and it was pretty easy actually, so I wouldn't let that put you off.

Actually, I've just recently rolled a Wdn after playing an RK forever, and they're not so different as you might think. The roles they play are different, and the play MECHANICS are different, but they are similar in a lot of ways.

The most striking thing that I noticed is that, just as there are 3 trait-lines for RK's, there are 3 main trait-lines for wardens. I haven't played any classes other than the Loremaster, but it seemed as if there were all different "types" of skills for that class. I suspect other classes might have the same arrangement (although I'm sure someone will prove me wrong). It just seemed hodge-podge, and not well-arranged.

But with the RK and the Wdn, the skill types are CLEARLY defined.
RK's have Fire, Storm, Winter, and Healing skills.
RK's have Fire, Storm, and Healing traits.
Wdn's have Fist, Shield, Spear, and Javelin skills.
Wdn's have Fist, Shield, and Spear traits.

Both the Wdn and the RK have other skills that SUPPLEMENT their main skills, but they are very clearly explained and defined. It's very easy to arrange the skills on the skillbars. That is what attracted me, and still attracts me, to the Warden. After spending many many months levelling a RK, collecting leet gear, and finding little else do to, I have started a lil noob Warden, and I'm liking it as much as I like the RK. I can't wait to reach endgame with him!

Rather than DPS and Heal, Wdn's can DPS and Tank. Being up front and tanking mobs is a considerably different from standing in the back slinging "runes," but the skills are arranged to make it very easy to play IN THE SAME WAY that it is easy to play an RK.

    Re: WRD or RK??

Name two classes and I can point out similarities between them. That being said, if you try to play an RK like a Warden, you'll be dead in 10 seconds. Mechanics and roles make classes. When neither are remotely similar, the gameplay isn't either.

Also, DPS is not a Warden role at level 65. Warden DPS builds aren't as bad as many people make-out (and I have one at 65 by the way), but it's not like you're going to be competing with Champs, RK's, Hunters or even Captains or Burgs when you figure in their buffs / debuffs. If you are filling a DPS role in a group as a Warden, you are just filling a slot that any other class could fill at least as well as you can, assuming they are geared and traited for DPS.

This last bit is not directed solely at you, but.. Why is there a rash of people acting like they know everything there is to know about Wardens when they don't have one at 65? It boggles my mind. I couldn't fathom going into the Guardian or Hunter forums and telling people there who'd been playing their class for two years or more that they didn't know what they were talking about.

No, you will not be forced to heal everytime, but as a generality, RK's who can't heal are less-wanted in groups than ones who CAN heal because the ones who can heal can save a group if the main healer goes down. Healing is actually really easy for a RK. It's mostly HoT's, so in a good group, you won't be doing much. Keep in mind that RK's have a lot of ways to sling some DPS while healing too.

You and tanis0 have my sincerest apologies. I never said I knew everything about Wardens; I merely mentioned what I believed to be some perceived similarities between RK's and Wardens after having played an RK for a very long time and after playing a Warden for 15 levels.

Just to clarify again, it wasn't directed solely at you, and also it wasn't meant to be a slam on anyone at all. You aren't even close to the most severe case of it and there's nothing really wrong with what you said except about Warden DPS and the fact that your post basically said mine was wrong and then made a point that wasn't about gameplay.

There's just been a lot of random misinformation going around lately from people who either don't play the class or haven't played it long but think they are authorities. I'm struggling to understand it is all. I haven't really posted much about it before because I don't want to discourage people from posting. It's just that a class at level 15 and the same class at level 65 are often very different animals, and Wardens may actually be the most extreme case of that. Heck, once a Warden gets masteries and DBD, it might as well be a new class.
