    BSOD - Windows 7 (64-Bit), X-Fi Titanium

Ok so after having windows 7 64-bit installed since July/August and running LOTRO with zero issues what so ever i've suddenly since Dec 11th been encountering rapid and continual BSOD just minutes after logging in. I've gone so far as to delete and physically unistalled my audio to resolve the issue but as most of you probably agree the solution of the moment is not really viable.

My system config is as stands:

Asus Mobo P6X58D Premium w/ most up to date BIOS installed back in October
    Intel i7 X980 @ 3.33Ghz
    8 Gig Corsair Memory
Dual SLI Nvidia Geforce GTX 480 (stock settings, no overclocking) Drivers: 8.17.12.6099 ( released 10/16/2010 )
    Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Series (PCI-E) Drivers: 6.0.1.1348 ( Released 7/7/2010 )
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with all available critical updates installed
Paging File is set at just under 13gig

C drive: 300gig Western Digital ( Operating System and drivers only on this drive )
Drives D & E are Western Digital Sata with a 1TB capacity each.
D drive is productivity and Digital imaging software only
E drive is strictly games including LOTRO

All software I'm currently running is what I started out with when I assembled the system and the last set up updates I ran was over a month ago for MS Office 2010.

When I load up LOTRO and select any of my characters then rez in at what ever location I happen to be at I get about 2 minutes of play time before crashing to the ever so wonderful BSOD with error notations regarding the following:

    CTAUD2k.sys
    0x0000003B

I've run a memory check and found no errors.

I tested with both hardware & software drivers and the issue repeats itself. Yet if I run WoW, Stalker, Metro or any other 64 bit based game currently installed I have absolutely no crash issues. I've scrubbed all Soundblaster files from the system & registery and done a physical removal and reinstall of the audio. Motherboard audio has been shut down in the BIOS as well.

SO at this point i'm at a loss as to what the direct or indirect cause of this problem is or what possible solutions are out there.

I get the same thing, and I think its related to Automatic Windows Update.

What happens is that WU starts reordering libraries and corrupts the running game.

    What I do is this:

Boot into Windows 7 64 bit.

    Count to 10.

    Reboot.

Now start Lotro and it can go for hours at a time.

It is my belief that WU only runs the first time in.

    Good Luck!

LOTRO is not compatible with the X-Fi cards when you enable EAX. Do not turn on EAX and you will not have this problem.

It's been a problem since the release of the game, they know the cause but will not fix it. Kinda like the lag in the game, they 'say' they don't know the cause of the problem, and I believe them, and told my friend today "I told you Turbine doesn't know how to resolve this lag issue in their game, and they never will. Bon voyage!"

IN game audio settings, change the output device to "Software" instead of the named audio card.

If you have any EAX settings being forced from the audio driver, turn them off.

That should stabilize things for you.
