Thread: Authentication server

When i did the update today dec. 6 2010, after that I went to log in and made it to the server authentication screen. Then it stops and connection failure screen pops up with a quit option. I also noticed that when i try to log in after i choose my server the updater says lord of the rings is already running? HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? How do I fix this? I just bought points and now i can not use them. I have tried a full reinstall, i have tried alot of the forum suggestions? How can this just happen? This is something the requirese imidiate attention.

im having a very similiar problem, cannot load past the server selection/loading screen, but does not show an error message and doesn't say already connected to Lord of the Rings Online when i reload the login menu. anyone find an answer to this yet?

I'm having a different issue (can't get the patcher to update the game data files) but I might have a solution to the problem you two are having.

Open up task manager and look on the "Processes" tab, then see if the TurbineLauncher.exe is running. If so, right-click it and "end task". Reload the launcher.

someone please give an answer to this problemmmm we can't playyy i have a similar problem!! i can't get past the authentication after logging in and all that pops up is:

Connection failed.
There was an error with this connection

and then all you can do is quit :|

i used to be able to play normally before. I never changed anything with my system and network except for the latest patch. ever since that, i've never been able to log in

Has anyone found a solution yet? I couldn't play yesterday but it updated a bit ago and I'm getting the same thing, I'd really like to fix it fast.

Same thing is happening to me. I just downloaded this game and haven't played it before. I get into the server then get to the authentication server page and it sayd "Connection Error: Connection failed.
There was an error with this connection, then i have to quit . i was really looking forward to this game.
Can anyone PLEASE help me ?

Go through the steps in this Knowledge Base article and see if any help with your issue. It's possible that your AV or Firewall automatically updated and is now blocking the game. Check those and make sure that LOTRO is allowed to connect.

It isn't my firewall. i tried disabling it completely then connecting to the game. Still didn't work /:

I'm getting the same thing. I just spent 3 hours downloading a game that doesn't even work! I checked my firewall and it's allowing all the correct files. I downloaded Microsoft NET Framework 1.1 and it still doesn't work! Please help.
