...which is not unusual for me, but anyway. I have selected explorer for my burg but how do you level up your abilities as Explorer(tailor/prospector/forester)? I go to the Crafting Halls but see no Trainer as such for this.
I'm sure there is a simple answer and I know your input can help me. Thanks much and I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

There are no trainers for prospecting and forestry. Prospector is leveled by making ingots from the ore you collect. Forester is leveled by making leather and treated wood from the hides and wood you collect. Tailoring does have a vendor that you can get recipes from and you level it by making light armor and clothing using the leather you create and supplies from the tailoring vendor.
You earn crafting XP by using the recipes in your crafting panel. Once the proficiency part is complete (the first part which has a red bar) then you will no longer earn any more crafting XP for that tier until you complete a quest. The quest will open the next tier, and open the mastery part (second part with a yellow bar) of the tier if you are eligible. You must complete mastery on all tiers lower to be eligible for it. For Tailor you would talk to the Novice Tailor to get the quest. For Prospecting and Forester you would talk to the Supplier.
