I tried Riddermark to try a new server and the community is rough!
How are you guys faring over here?
Thanks in advance!
When you say that the community is rough, what do you mean? Raunchy, or hard to join?
Arkenstone has several great kins with great communities. The server as a whole is very friendly, but in a sarcastic/bitter kind of way. 30 seconds on GLFF will tell you that.
That being said, if you like sarcastic humor and are willing to make a time investment, Ark is a great server. I've been on it since 2007 and really enjoy it. Arkenstone also has some great kinships that, while tight-knit, can also be welcoming of newer members and allow for new players to become integral parts, with time and energy.
Ark is a great community of helpful and fun people. For the most part ignoring GLFF is a good thing since it's mostly full of people that just feel that their own opinion or less than mature manner is an asset which it is not.
With that said though, there are many great Kins and loads of people either on their mains or alts willing to throw someone a hand. I wouldn't be on any other server and I have been here since launch.
there are rows in glff at times, I tend to ignore it then. Most of the time it's just for fun/social chat (maybe 75%). Maybe 15% it's used for actually LFF and the rest is the aforementioned rowing.
advice is quite usually helpful and full of people that will actually answer your questions
there are still idiots of course as everywhere, people who jump your stuff/mob/node whatever, but less so in other games I've played. And if you actually ask someone something, they usually talk to you (gasp) - that cannot be said of all games in my experience
Overall it's a very nice server!

Im new in Arkenstone and to Lotro but not to mmorpg's. I find it hard to get a group for the dungeons and skirms(GA, GB, etc), probably because Im not in Bree as much as before now that Im Lv35.
LFF channel should be global or something so that we can actually find people.
I am told other servers are more active and IMO Arkenstone is dead. Maybe the other games Ive played have bigger communities, I dont know. I find it hard to believe that Lotro is dead or has no 3x level players needing dungeons...grinding isnt as fun as a dungeon.

Sorry, but just to make sure... you're level 35 and looking for GB/GA groups?

There seem to be many level 30ish+ players. There is a global lff channel (player made) it's kinda like a ooc as well though, but it's a good resource. Just do "/joinchannel glff" without the "" and try it out.
Also, you probably want to find yourself a kin, that'll have people to group with or that can help you out.

thnx for the GLFF info, but how do I post a message there?
That seems a bit high-level for GA, and is definitely high for GB, unless they've changed something pretty substantially. You're actually approaching Fornost levels.

you type '/uc1' in game or you can I think right click near your chat tab and change the "output to userchannel1" something like that. I just use the first short cut. If nothing shows up the first time, you might have to relog, apparently it can be a little finicky, btw.

GA and GB are, certainly, different situations. However, I still don't know why you would want to run GA with a group at your level. At any rate, if you're looking to level primarily with group content, I would recommend focusing on skirmishes, particularly if you won't be acquiring Fornost (not that many people run it, anyways).

As a F2P lv36 I'm basically out of quests and only have access to GA, GB and 2 solo skirmishes. I'm pretty bored of GB, having done it since lv17.
Solo skirmish gets boring after a couple of runs too. Whats left? GA. The only problem is that I prefer 6-man fellowships and 2 of the 3 GA options are 3-man.
Edit: I will add that GLFF is a huge dissapointment, being full of every single conversation except LFF. The developers might want to look into this since its very, very hard to get a fellowship for anything. Of course, when people see they can't get a group in GLFF, they resort to spamming and debating politics and stuff...
Edit2: I am currently not having much fun in LotRo, I'm playing to get to 65 and see what its like there. If it's the same as now, I will most certainly quit the game.

Yeah well its not WoW where the entire game is based on group grinding experiences called "raids" which you are flung into 24/7 through a fast food system.
Here's the deal on a real MMORPG:
Get some buddies
Go have fun exploring the world and stop worrying about stats and gear and being more leet than every other player you insecure chump
LoTRO is about having fun and having adventures, not running around grinding to be the more leet guy (Most korean MMOs, WoW, EvE, etc.)
Not the game's fault you're too socially inept to make friends in the game world to have fun with.

It is pitch black, you are likely to be eaten by me.

I think you might be right, if you can make friends, I most certainly can.
Too bad you missed my point completely, I never mentioned stats, gear or leetness for that matter.

1. Ignore him. Seriously.
2. GLFF is sometimes for LFF, it's a player made channel, and as pretty much the only used global channel, it gets used, well, for everything, really.
3. GA is not a horribly popular instance, I think, I could be wrong! But it doesn't seem that popular from what I've seen. That being said I have seen people asking for groups, for it, in GLFF.
4. You might want to also double up your efforts to find a group in LFF (which is a regional channel, so it'll change depending where you're at - one reason GLFF is popular, not sure why Turbine split the channels quite the way they did, but oh well)
5. Are you in a kin? I'm not saying you have to be in a kin to get fellows or anything, just it does make it easier, you might try it out. I know there are several large and good kins here that recruit and would most likely be more than happy to help you out.
6. I'm re-reading the tail end of this thread so if I missed this sorry, did you buy or have enough points to get either maybe Evendim or Trollshaws? You'd probably want Evendim more. Or even the Misty Mountains, or Forochel - you're a little low for those last two though, I think.
Anyway, that's all I can think of, it's a bit hard as a F2P, of course, if you don't have points to spare or the $ to buy more. You're kinda stuck with what content you can do. The grouping situation does get better at higher levels; there are more instances to run for one thing! But PUGing it can be a problem for quests/areas that people don't like to do, or for whatever reason just aren't as popular. That's where being in a kin would probably help you out.
At any rate hope this helps some Happy hunting!
