changes;
* Added gear from level 0 to 40. It felt a bit mean to cut out new players from the site, so its no longer just level 40+. That means it should now list ALL armour, jewellery and weapons (apart from legendary) in the game. (thats around 23,000 items btw!)
* Updated lists with all recently added items (e.g. the new armour sets from Great Barrows, Helegrod etc...)
* A bunch of fixes and tweaks behind the scenes to make sure things stays fast
Let me know what you think
Cheers

Look ma! I made something!
P.S. I've got some ideas for what Id like to do next but would like to hear what people would most like from the following;
1) Customise the Rating - The 'Rating' that's shown for each item is currently fixed. Id like to add a UI to let users set which stats are important to them to customise the rating to their personal tastes.
2) Armour/Item sets - A new page showing armour/item sets grouped together (along with set bonuses and set totals)
3) Savable/linkable lists - A feature that lets you save a link after you've filtered down to a list of gear you like. You could then save the list for later or share it up to forums/mates/the web etc
4) More filtering - some extra ways to filter data e.g. per column - so you could show only items with +agility of 30 or more
Note that my time is limited atm and I dont know when if ever ill get to do this stuff - i.e. when I can grab a spare moment here and there when not working/sleeping/eating/pooing/playing lotro

I think the ability to Customize the Rating would probably be the best addition. You might get a lot of good feedback on what the default should be as well by allowing this.
Naturally, I think all four are great ideas for the future.
Love the slide bar for the level ranges, don't think that was there last time I looked at the site. Keep up the great work (when you can, of course).
I noticed that the level is wrong on the Ornate Lebethron ranged weapons. They are the Woodworkers guild weapons and they are level 41 not 44.
The weapon tooltip there even has it at 41.
Yeh, looks like Im using the wrong 'level' from the data pulled from the lorebook - meaning the levels for ALL items are currently a bit off. Ill fix that when I next do an update.
Thanks for letting me know!

also got this: "DataTables warning: Unable to re-initialise DataTable. Please use the API to make any configuration changes required."
Wingwoz (on hunters in LOTRO), "I prefer to think of them more like Elvis or James Dean. Terminally self indulgent but their presence in a party, nay, the very fact that they ever existed, makes the world a cooler place."
'Zairente hums, "Little rabbit Poo-kie / running through the Di-res / scooping up the Mon-archs / and BANGING 'em on the head."' The Antics and Ramblings of Family Nenaelin
Thanks for this website stingray69. It's a very useful tool, and it has a very easy to use interface. You did a great job developing it.
The customizable ratings would be a big plus. However I think you did a pretty good job on the default rating set.
I can't wait to see what enhancements you add to it in the future.
Just realize that while champions are awesome, we want you to be awesome too. That's why we do the things we do. - Harumph
I'm fairly certain no one is leaving the game due to confusion of what a strawman is or isn't. Which tells me we're done here.

I second the request for ability to somehow compare armor by set. For example for Captains, the Helegrod armor is rated really poorly by the site. But most high level captains I see are sporting at least 4 pieces of the set for the 4 piece bonus... Maybe you could somehow score the bonuses???
* Improved search - should be lots more flexible now. using the all/any picker you can do AND/OR style searches. (if you're a bit techy and know what a Regular Expression is, you can use them too). btw searches are across all columns so u could enter 'medium' to see only medium armour
* Level - the level column should have the correct data now
* column colours - tweak to table styling so group related stats
* search settings (like level range) are being saved now so you dont have to keep setting them to your favourite place after refresh the page or come back later
next up is changable ratings, followed by armour sets. To be done "soon"

Just added a new feature to configure the gear ratings
Now you can set which stats are important to you and personalise the rating column to your tastes. Note though - changes aren't being saved yet (so when you refresh the page they will be gone). This is temporary until the next release - I figured it was better to get something out early that people could play with rather than wait until it was all done.
Thanks again for all the feedback and encouragement. It's good to know the site been of some use to more people than just me

Would be nice if a person could create a custom item and see where it would be ranked in the table. Or if the formula is published somewhere then I could just add it up by hand.
Several people have asked me to show the actual numbers next to the sliders in the ratings dialog. I was trying not to clutter the panel up too much but I guess if interested enough to be playing with ratings sliders you probably want to know what the actual value is!
This should help explain the rating formula better. The rating btw is the value of each slider (on the rating panel) multiplied by the value of its stat and then all added together. So a helmet with +20 Will & +100 Morale with sliders set to 2 (for will) and 0.5 (for morale) would create a rating of 90 (20x2 + 100x0.5).
So the math is fairly simple but that's intentionally so as the rating is only meant as a rough guide to the potential worth of an item. Play style, gear build, intended activity, skill level etc all have massive effects on best item to choose that rating could never account for.

It's great for when you want to look up some item, like the other day I wanted to check out high agility bracelets - there isn't another resource that so easily finds what you're looking for. Nice work.
Just found this and I love it. Excellent work! Thanks.
It was linked in a thread asking about armour options here, which also revealed one thing it doesn't do - allow solo or non-raid players to see what their options are.
Suggestion: I don't know whether the relevant information is available from the lorebook, but it would be useful to be able to filter by source, e.g. quest reward, crafted, world drop, 3-man, 6-man, 12-man, store, PvP. Even just a crafted only filter would help.
Thanks again for the effort and thoughtfulness put into this.
Duvi Vastin: "But whenever we take feedback on most game systems, such as character builds, economics, or especially anything to do with PvP, then we are forced to read very carefully between the lines of any and all player feedback, as it is all inevitably skewed by self-investment, self-interest, and a deeply subjective viewpoint that increases in direct proportion to how long or successfully a player has occupied a particular role."
I'd love to see some type of "paper doll" type view where I can apply the selected gear to my character. This way I can build a set of gear I might want to get.

One thing that is hard to configure is the # difference between stats and say morale/melee defense/etc.
An item like Symbol of Deep Thought ranks far higher than black pearl or anvil.
Why? because it has 3 600ish numbers on it. Now if an item had 50 to all stats, it would still rank lower.
You can't adjust the ratings good enough as is, I slide morale and stuff way low and stats high, but then you can't make them low enough to compensate it seems.
Hi,
I'm developing an Andriod app for Character Viewer and Server Status.
I would insert in my app also the feature of gears .. in other words, I would insert the opportunity to search for item using some criteria like level, class and other.
How LotroGear is able to retreive info for equipment?
How are you able to query the Turbine Database?
I'd like to request a data update to this awesome site now that new items have been released! I used this site so much to find gear for my two 65s, it's been an awesome tool.
Is there any way you can add a rating system that is based on actual numbers, rather than the scroll bar (which isn't transparent)? Additionally, can you add in a way to save the rating settings that we choose, so that they carry over from armour to jewelry to weapons, so we don't have to change them each time we look at a different type of item?
I have a spreadsheet program that I have been using and updating since the game began, and love the way you've implemented that type of spreadsheet into an easily usable webpage for comparing pieces of gear. I wonder if we can collaborate and come up with a few ways to make it a much more in depth comparison tool for players.
My opponents need not fear me; they simply need to get used to returning from the rez circle.
