What would YOU like to see in the month of the hunter?
What I want is a capstone trait for trapper of foes "I really am scary after all!" which makes your cc abilities actually work on something bigger than trash mobs.
What would you guys pick as your "dream" change for The month of the hunter!
Re: What would YOU like to see in the month of the hunter?
What I'd like:
So many things I'd like to see...but I'd settle for being the premier single target damage dealer again. Traitline overhauls are a pipedream I think.
Re: What would YOU like to see in the month of the hunter?
I'd like to see Penetrating Shot "root" on Trapper of Foes line be applied to "Scourging Blow" instead of Pen Shot when traited 4 deep in ToF. Then we'd actually use scourging blow (which nobody uses) and ToF would be a whole lot more attractive with PS actually being usable for DPS. With the -25% damage debuff from traiting 4 deep, AND also the punishment of losing PS in our rotations (which, along with ISB makes up a good chunk of our normal DPS) the line is currently not in use by anyone in group play.
I also like the idea of making the 5-trait capstone Explosive Arrow non-resistable with a shorter daze duration (15 seconds). This would truly be a "legendary capstone" which would allow a boss to be stunned. It would give hunters more group utility in boss-fights and even us out against the RK's.
Give us a real capstone and fix the PS root that cripples the ToF line!
Edit: Also, scalable campfire and scalable snare would be nice.
Edit: One last hairbrained idea-- I don't like how the hunter's ability to "guide" (port) people around has been eviscerated by the new instance join, which futher robs hunters of group utility. When its time to leave an instance, I sometimes wish I could walk out of the instance and NOT port back to where I joined it from, but instead be standing outside the instance entry. If we could take fellows OUT of the instance into the countryside (even if they joined by instance-join) that would be neat. Not a lot of utility, but it it would be something. Could call this "disembark instance" skill.
Re: What would YOU like to see in the month of the hunter?
One old suggestion that I don't think has been mentioned here:
Use one consumable for all our crafted traps. I've quit even carrying traps, and when I was carrying them, I'd only ever have 1 or 2 types. It'd be cool to be able to use any of our trap options w/o having to stock each of them individually.
There's been a lot of effort lately in consolidating items that take up inventory slots, from vendor trash, to the recently announced farming seeds. This seems like a logical step on that path.

Re: What would YOU like to see in the month of the hunter?
What I would like to see is that you give ALL classes the same port skills, and then maybe give few other skills to hunter and warden so they don't feel less unique after that change And yes, I do have both hunter and warden myself too
It's just that in Middle-Earth, our characters should feel to be something else than TAXI. Transportation should be just as easy/difficult for every class, imho.
Basically you could add a tarvel skill to each reputation faction that you could buy when you get to acquintance level with that faction, and those skills should NOT share cooldown with each other.
Re: What would YOU like to see in the month of the hunter?
Lots (most) have already been said...
First the givens:
- Scaled Campfire - 4000 ocmr, ocpr
- Scaled HS DPS - 2500 baseline, no target recticle
- Putting down Snares and tripwires in Combat when traiting combat traps
- A dropdown menu from a single skill for all ports
- Single legacy for Indcution and focus crit
- Single legacy for Indcution and focus power
- Reduced point cost of legacies across the board on Bows/Crossbows
- Lvl 65 power book
- Lowcut must have a target acquired to activate
- Blindside doesn't root
- Agile Rejoinder always heals. Change legacy to give us the ability to increase healing magnitude
- Give us back +3 Stealth legacy
- Scrap Fleet stance
- Remove the increased power cost penalty from burn hot.
- Fellowship-wide poison cure
Trapper line:
Remove the dps penalty for Trapper (there's already a dps penalty as our inductions are slower than huntsman and damage lower than bowmaster). Change capstone to Weighted Arrow. Grants skill Weighted Arrow which is used from stealth and has same induction time and CD as Heartseeker. When fired, it performs a knockdown on the target. A critical hit has a %-change to open a Fellowship Maneuver.
Huntsman line: Change captstone of huntsman line to Improved Direct Flight. Instead of a hunter port to the nearest rez circle, on use it resets hunter in combat run speed to 100% for one minute, regardless of slows. Enable for pvp.
Bowmaster line: Remove all power and induction penalites.
Re: What would YOU like to see in the month of the hunter?
I play with one of the better hunters in Elendimir in my humble opinion. I think to be frank I like the additions of melee crit and melee multiplier on the weapons, it gives us a little bite in the melee fight.
I also commend the Blood Arrow and Dazing shot improvements from the last upgrade.
I think it gives us a little more to work with in our pvp fights especially.
The Helegrod set has come up to be a favoured choice now because it allows for penetrating shot to be more or less spammed at the cost of weaker armor but one that has good buffs.
I've seen a hunter completely penetrating shot down another class.
Which has made me keen to go try it out.
From my build and personal point of view, I'd like to see hunters have the relentless attack (cappy buff) for the self.
Sometimes, it turns out in moors that buff is the make it or break it buff for me as a hunter, and to have to find a cappy and ask for a buff everytime is a nuisance and a pester to the cappys out there.
I would like to see relentless attack as a self-buff on hunters with like a 30 to 45 min cooldown. Even once an hour worse comes to worse.
Often Hunters are engaged with the many melee classes of the freepside. We gotta deal with especially wargs and reavers.
Many times Hunters just fall when soloing to either of these classes. Soloing as a hunter is not very practical also because more often than not the creepside are zergers.
I think that buff will give hunters renewed confidence to have some more buff where its rough especially @ the moors.
Even once an hour, I would welcome that buff, and even if you can select a parry buff in lieu. Hunters will feel the ability to be a solo class again.
Right now, we are better but we are still not a real solo class, since we really lack on self heals and stuff, we really need attack to survive.
Re: What would YOU like to see in the month of the hunter?
I just think they need some group utility. Something that they can bring to the group that isn't great dps. CC isn't going to be this utility. Turbine could NEVER get the balance of CC and loss of dps to a point that would make us happy. There has to be a balance of more CC less dps but the moment they or anyone else says Less dps ppl throw fits.
It needs to be a mark or Aura of some sort. Burgs and Capts both have the mark I would have liked to see a Hunter get, so that cant be it. You cant make Camp Fire Incombat because thats Capt territory.
Just going to throw out some random suggestions.
-threat aura around the Hunter Buff cannont apply to any hunter at all.
-Induction aura around the hunter Buff cannont apply to any hunter at all.
+Attack speed around the hunter Buff Can apply to other Hunters
Ranged Provoke type skill
+Tactical Dmg mark *Good synergy with the RKs +melee/Ranged mark*
Group buff that increases Agi, scale it through levels.
Group buff that increases Evade
Group buff that increases Partial evade mit
Anyhow, never put much thought into any of these but any of them would add some group dynamic that couldn't be found elsewhere. Which I think they need desperately.
RKs as an example bring great dps AND Foreshadowing, healing, ect.
Champs bring great dps AND tanking, threat management.

Posts like this one I'm about to multi-quote are why the Devs will never take this thread seriously.

DPS stands for Damage Per Second. It is a measure of damage done over time, not a comparison of what skill hit for the most damage on a particular strike. Reducing how much time Hunters spend watching their induction bar move increases your DPS. The sooner I'm done with an induction the sooner the damage is delivered, and the sooner I can start my next damage dealing skill.

With the right legacies we're actually very potent CC. Our mez isn't quite as strong as a Burg's but we win everywhere else. Sadly the simple fact is that content either doesn't require CC or everything is CC immune. If content were different our CC would be useful.
As to wanting a healing RK over a Minstrel there's times when both have an advantage. You'd be pretty stupid to ask for a RK instead of a Minstrel when there's a couple Champs/Burglars in the group looking for 20% Ballad of War, just as simple example. Both healers do more than just heal, and the rest of your group plus the content makes a big difference when picking who is "better".

If a hunter came fully outfitted for CC or decreased induction times he'd be ridiculed and booted from the group!
Actually I tend to ridicule the people that don't trait for decreased induction times. If you aren't running at least 3 Huntsman for PvE you're doing it wrong.
To be fair our capstones do suck. They need work all on their own merits (or lack thereof) though. It doesn't really matter what RKs have for trait lines, or any other class.

RKs are also a primary DPS class. They're supposed to be comparable damage output to Hunters. If you looked at more than HS versus EC crits you'd see that they actually are comparable.

I don't even get more then 4 to 4.5k with HS fully buffed!
Heartseeker sucks. It's always sucked. It will continue to suck now that you can mash Cool Burn from stealth and gank people in PvP. Beefing up the damage so that you can crack 8k from stealth isn't going to happen.
Using HS as some sort of performance metric for Hunter has been a bad thing since it was released. You have always been able to do more damage with regular skills instead of waiting for the HS induction. People need to realize this skill always has and always will suck anywhere outside PvP and move along with their lives.

We already are. Unfortunately you seem to think that "DPS" means "Bigger damage on HS than EC". You're never going to be happy so long as you fundamentally misunderstand what DPS actually is and fail to look at what Hunters actually do over time compared to RKs.

So I am pretty much confused. Hunters and Caps seemed to be the only classes that got a look when F2P launched. Hunters now get another round? Do Captains get another one?
A good dev diary would really be to lie this out for folks. The RoI press release was nice, but near term excitement can be kindled from understanding the class updates that lie ahead - any chance of getting a rough road map? It may shrink all the waste in your "false assertion" folder." Go green Turbine!!!

The difference is that Captains got a full Month Of treatment, while Hunters got a hotfix. Are there classes that need love, too? Yes. Hopefully their Months Of come soon, too. Hunters are supposed to be getting ours in early 2011.
Sure, that hotfix put us back in the running for best DPS (from a distant Pssh! Hunters? Seriously?), but there's a lot of work that Hunters could use.
Re: What would YOU like to see in the month of the hunter?
I think Hunters are ok the way the are, My Hunters is a DPS machine and with the new additions with F2P, is pretty good at CC too.
However, that being said, I would just like to see the "Month of..." anything since they have been promised to us since, like, 2007 I think.
Month of's, like many other aspects of this game, it seems, has gone the way of Duke Nukem Forever...which I might ad we're actually going to see...probably before we ever see the Month of's.
Re: What would YOU like to see in the month of the hunter?
Improved "Not the Father!" Stance!
OH NOES, you're on the TV w/ the paternity test. Good thing for you, you're a hunter and slotted your Huntsman capstone! You don't know what to do, gee busta move.
Suction Cup Arrow!
I can think of many ways to use the suction cup arrow!
Cupid's Arrow!
S:S in 4 Bowmaster not enough taunt power? Make your target "LOVE" it's current target w/ Cupid's Arrow!!!
--
In all seriousness, though, if a complete traitline/legacy overhaul isn't in order (which I think it should, definitely for ToF, probably for the others as well) then I'd *settle* for some of the suggestions above. Hunter is one of the least polished classes, IMO. It's very flat, there's not alot of changin' it up and doin' something different w/ it.

Now that is a capital idea. We can use it to safely rappel down cliffs, to scale the walls of Barad Ickybathroom (or whatever the name of the next instance cluster is) for a group-wide shortcut, stop retreating creeps...
I, too, can think of many ways to use the suction cup arrow.
