    [Plugin] Alt Inventory

    If you are an altaholic like me, you have spent countless hours logging characters in and out looking for where you put crafting supplies or trophies. Alt Inventory allows you to view a snapshot of your alt's bag inventory, vault and shared storage without leaving game so that you know which character has how many of which item.

    NOTE: THIS AND ALL OTHER INVENTORY PLUGINS ONLY HAVE ACCESS TO BAGS, EQUIPPED ITEMS, VAULT AND SHARED STORAGE CURRENTLY. There is no access to Housing Storage or Wardrobe. As soon as Turbine grants Lua plugins access to any other form of storage I and most other developers will add that to our plugins.

    Finally, the long awaited version 3.0 update has arrived.

    Alt Inventory allows you to quickly and easily view all of your inventory for your character, your alts, all vaults, and shared storage in one view. You can filter the display by item category or enter a case-insensitive search (accent-insensitive as well so this works for DE and FR clients as well!) for an item by name. You can sort the view by Name, reverse Name, Category or Quality. You can also choose to display icons and text, text only or icons only. The window is resizable and movable, will disappear for clean screenshots and can be opened from an icon when desired or by the chat command "/altinventory show".

    Version 3.0 now focuses only on inventory display. The Item Tracking features are now a separate plugin, ItemTracker and all non-inventory displays will be in AltViewer. This separation of functionality allows the plugin to function far more efficiently as well as allowing all of the inventories to be merged into a single display.

    Quantity details can be viewed by hovering over the name of the item. In the "ALL" view, this will display how many of the item are in each type of storage by character. In an individual storage view (single character, vault or Shared Storage) the detail will show how many are in each container within that storage ("Chests" for vaults and Shared Storage and "Bags" for character).

    Tooltips will display when you hover over the icon of any item that your current character can access - if you open your vault, then any item in the vault will show a tooltip even after leaving the vault-keeper until you unload the plugin. Items with a grey and red dotted border will not display a tooltip.

    Known Issues:
    The mini-icon funtionality has not been implemented in version 3.0 but will return in a future version.

    Future plans: a long vacation in a warm climate. oh, for the plugin. um, well, not too many plans until we see what update 10 brings us.

    ____________________ Version Log ____________________
    NOTE: I have cleared the version log since 3.0 is a significant code change from prior versions and the bugs/fixes from the prior versions are no longer relevant. The change log will restart with version 3.1. The "Version History.txt" however does cover all prior versions.

    Ver 3.02
    Re-implemented the ability to utilize the current character items directly from AltInventory
    Re-implemented drag/drop for current items both into and out of AltInventory. Note, drag/drop will ONLY work when displaying the current character's bags.
    Re-enabled "Replace Bags" option.
    Added "Use Mini Icon" option. Changes the 32x32 square icon to a 16x16 round icon suitable for placement on the compass ring.
    Fixed a bug which sometimes prevented the Sort from being properly applied when adding an item (items were sometimes being added in incorrect positions).
    Fixed the missing quantity column in Text only display
    Doubled the width of the item entries for Text only display to allow for extra long item names

    Ver 3.01
    Minor bug fix for icon positioning typo in DE and FR clients

    ____________________ Installation __________________ __
    To install the Alt Inventory plugin, unzip the entire zip file to your Plugins folder. If you had the game running when you installed the plugin, you will have to type "/plugins refresh" or close and restart the game.

    To run the plugin, simply load it. Type "/plugins load altinventory" in your game chat window or set the plugin to load automatically from the Turbine Plugin Manager (type "/plugins manager" in chat or access from the System menu).

    When you first close the Alt Inventory window, the icon will appear in the lower left corner of your display, you can drag it to any location you want by holding Ctrl while you drag it and the next time it loads it will remember it's location.

    I'd love this. But for it to be truly effective, it should include the characters vault, subscription shared storage and any housing storage.

    But oh yeah, that'd be great. :-)

    Thanks for the feedback. Believe me, as soon as Turbine gets us access to vault, shared storage or housing storage, you can bet I'll be all over that

    Great! I set aside work that should have higher priority to check this out and love it, exactly what I was hoping for and I'll be using it daily. +Rep for you.

    If I may be so bold to offer two possible enhancements?

    One is a chat command to toggle the window open/closed, so we can tie it to a shortcut key (I will totally replace "I" with this then) and not have to find/click the teeny invisible button, LOL.

    My other idea is a taller window. I may have a small laptop screen, but I want this window to be 150% of the height it currently is. Even better would be a stretchable window if that's possible. If not, maybe options to make it this size, 1.5 times this size, twice it's height, etc.?

    Thank you SO much for making this, just a couple days ago I was lamenting not being able to find something I knew the name of.

    Glad to hear you enjoy it. You'll be happy to know that in response to another user's request I have already started creating a view that shows ALL the items on ALL alts (the grand total is shown in line) with a pop up that displays the breakdown of which character has how many. That combined with the search mechanism I am contemplating should help anyone find any lost items in any charater's bags.

    Both the chat commands and the vertical sizing made it into version 1.03 which was replace an eyeblink later by version 1.04 due to me accidentally messing up the upload of 1.03's zip file

    I couldn't make an account on the hosting website to comment there, but whoops, sadly there doesn't seem to be any toggle code in the 1.05 version. Show works, hide works, toggle does nothing.

    But thank you for resizing! :-)

    Hehe. Yeah, I realized toggle was busted late last night so I updated the release notes to only list "/altinventory show" and "/altinventory hide" and specified at the bottom that "/altinventory toggle" will be in 1.06 (it's already fixed, just waiting to be rolled out). It will probably be a couple of days before I put up 1.06 because I'm currently playing around with resource images and finding all sorts of wonderful bugs like client crashes Once I get that sorted out and documented, I will get 1.06 up and running (not sure yet which features will make it into 1.06, it might just be a code clean up and a fix to allow skins to work better). Thanks for the feedback.

    I was going to install this until I saw that the API doesn't allow it to pull the alts' vault info. It does what it says it will do, and I believe it will still have some use for some people, but for it to truly be useful, we need that vault info. Hopefully Turbine will get around to adding more functionality sooner rather than later. It seems like Kate Paiz has a plan to get LOTRO to Mordor, and that includes Lua. Keep up the good work.

    Just echoing what the last poster said:

    It would be awesome if this plugin allowed you to browse what's in the vaults and shared storages - especially if you need to determine if this gem should be polished and thrown into the vault to top off the stack, or if it should be stuck on the AH.

    /waits patiently until turbine gives us that part of the API to mess with.

    Woohoo, for anyone wanting the toggle command to truly make this useful (maybe only me), you may simply paste the code in the right spot as provided on the download page.

    My "i" is now replaced, ty!

    You can now download version 1.06 since it not only gives you the Toggle option, but also gives you the ability to simply replace the bags the way The One Bag does and it also now supports dragging items into your inventory.

    Re: Alt Inventory

    I tried downloading v 1.06, and I get this error when I tried to load it:

    ...ings Online\Plugins\GaranStuff\AltI nventory\Main.lua:4: Unable to resolve package "Turbine.UI.Lotro.Action".

    I have the examples installed (all my other plugins that require them work fine) and I can't seem to figure out what's wrong.

    EDIT: I deleted that folder and installed your 1.05 version, and it worked just fine.

    Re: Alt Inventory

    In response to a feature request by Grim on LoTROInterface.com, I have implemented an Item Quantity Tracking and Warning/Alert system for Alt Inventory. Check the release notes for ver 1.09 in the opening post for details. There is also a screenie of the tracking window there. This is a handy way to remind yourself that you are running low on crafting mats across characters, as well as tracking your own consumables like pots and food with a small but noticable alert (there's finally a reason to keep that minimized icon in a visible part of the screen ) when your quantities go below thresholds for "Low" and "Critical" levels. The thresholds themselves can be customized per item with seperate settings for the "Character" tracking list and "All" tracking list (the "All" list and it's settings are shared between all Characters).

    Re: Alt Inventory

    FYI Garan, this plugin consumes memory the longer it's in use on my system, particularly when loading new areas.

    This was true in version 1.08 and also remains true in 1.10. LOTRO, Firefox and Windows usually take <1400 MB of RAM on my system, with this plugin loaded, a bit of running in and out of places and it climbed to nearly 1800. I used plugin manager to reload plugins without Alt Inventory, and it dropped back to 1362. This is consistent and repeatable for me.

    Before I pinpointed it to this plugin, I was relogging my characters, but had experienced some crashes when LOTRO was hitting the paging file.

    Thanks for the head's up. This sounds like a problem with LUA garbage collection so it might take me a while to figure out how to eliminate it (have to replicate it and track down the source first). I do find it odd that the symptoms get worse when changing zones since zoning doesn't (well, shouldn't) affect your inventory. Then again, if it is a garbage collection issue, perhaps whatever gets stuck in the plugin is also preventing other objects from being recycled properly. It'll probably be a couple days before I can try to look into it, it's nice to know that unloading the plugin seems to allow the memory to be recovered as a temporary work-around.

    EDIT: Update. I believe I replicated the problem you reported and have taken a very large mallet to the offending code. It is now behaving much nicer. Actually, it was an off-shoot of the event handler problem I fixed in 1.09, I just missed a few and worse, adding the Tracking window added a few. They should all be behaving much better. I have a bit more testing to do on it then I will get an updated version up as soon as I can. Thanks again for the report.

    You are welcome, I'm glad you were able to discover resolutions (I was half expecting we'd uncovered a LUA issue, and deeper digging was going to be required).

    No need to rush, I'll keep an eye out for the next version though (I usually don't upgrade hastily) and report if I find anything worth noting.

    Well, it is sort of a LUA issue, but it's one I've run into before and should have accounted for Version 1.11 is up on LoTROInterface.com.

    There is one minor known issue I ran into while testing, if you load the plugin on a new character, you will intermittently get LUA errors from the main window when quantities change but everything seems to function despite the error. The error messages go away as soon as the Plugin gets reloaded (the character list doesn't get updated properly when it encounters a new character but is fixed when the settings get saved on unload). I'll have to spend a few minutes tracking that one down but since the plugin still functions and it doesn't adversely affect the system it's a low priority so my time is still allocated to another project.

    Re: Alt Inventory

    Sadly 1.11 used up memory on my system last night as well. Perhaps it's not tied in to changing areas, as much as loading them spikes memory use at that time, causing it to be most apparent then?

    I only have about half a gigabyte of RAM free when I play, early on in my session last night (when I was in the housing area) I saw most was used up, unloaded it and recovered ~300 MB of RAM.

    I only have about half a gigabyte of RAM free when I play, early on in my session last night (when I was in the housing area) I saw most was used up, unloaded it and recovered ~300 MB of RAM.
    I'm sorry to hear this is still a problem. This is peculiar. I ran it for over 5 hours last night testing the memory usage as well as the new lag fix and my entire LoTRO client only used a maximum of 460MB and that was when I was at the Party Tree surrounded by a large number of other players. In areas where I was pretty much alone, it used between 260-350 MB depending on how many NPCs were around and the complexity of objects in the area (small taverns used the least). In all cases, the memory spike on load occured with or without the plugin and the difference using the plugin was 3MB or less depending on how many items I had in my inventory at the time. In all cases, unloading the plugin never recovered more than a couple MB, indicating that the plugin was no longer causing any significant permanent memory usage.

    Are you running any other plugins at the same time? Are you sure 1.11 got installed (you'd have to check the dates on the LUA files to be sure, since the version message only means that the .plugin file got updated)? I would recommend deleting the entire "GaranStuff" folder, installing 1.12 and testing again.

    If the problem persists for you with 1.12, you might want to stop using the plugin until version 2.0 gets released in a few weeks - 2.0 will be an entire re-write using a different approach to the item list which will have a slightly larger initial memory impact but will eliminate memory increases since it will use a static array of controls instead of a dynamic one and won't be at the mercy of LUA garbage collection.

    EDIT: My first tests were with a lower level Champion with only one Quickslot showing and only about half his inventory filled. With additional testing on my LM I was able to get memory usage to spike to 546MB, with 5 Quickslots showing and a full inventory and the plugin loaded while zoning in and out of the housing instance, but after the zone, usage dropped back to ~513 MB. Without the plugin loaded, the spike only went to 540MB, and still dropped about 510 MB. After running around between many zones for the next hour or so, the worst spike I got was entering Bree which went to 589 MB and it always dropped back to it's normal value. Looting, swapping items with the vault and selling items never made a permanent increase and only spiked the usage by a MB or so with or without the plugin loaded. Rapidly switching between "ALL" and the current character did cause a significant increase, about 10 MB that took a while to go away, it seems garbage collection can take a while to kick in certain situations, but the increase was never permanent. I also noticed that increased chat usage used up a significant amount of memory with or without the plugin loaded.

    Re: Alt Inventory

    I deleted the folder and did a fresh install days ago, I can't claim to have done thorough testing, however it does seem to be better now.

    (Although as you noticed, Bree is the most significant hit, and I've moved on from there with the character I've been playing.)

    I use PluginManager with LotroPad and BuffBars, neither of the later seem to have any impact on memory use if I unload/reload them.

    I've never used "All", nor have I pulled up other characters' inventories, except back at the beginning just to see them.

    I just wanted to give you some positive feedback, rather than leaving you in the dark!

    I love this plugin (I hope you get access to vaults soon)

    I have a suggestion/question:

    Is it possible to have some sort of text file export, like for excel or word?

    Having 2 accounts it would be nice to be able to not only combine them but to access your inventory offline.

    Thanks again for all you hard work.

    There isn't currently any way to directly export data to a file other than the built in Save function that saves the data in the PluginData. There are ways to bypass the account limitation using external scripts, but that seems to be wavering into the land of ToS violation since it uses an external application to bypass a built-in limitation (Turbine specifically seperated account data to prevent such cross-account sharing). I personally don't see the harm in it, but I try my best to stay outside of the really dark shaded regions of the ToS.

    You should be aware that this plugin will cease functioning once the November update hits. I am in the process of a full rewrite to fix some other issues, so I won't be publishing a patch for the November update changes. The new release won't be available until sometime in December - you can thank my daughter and preparations for her birthday for the lack of an actual date or as Sapience would say, "Soon" as opposed to "SOON".

    Re: Alt Inventory

    I wasn't originally going to release a fix just for the November update since I'm still elbow deep in the guts of version 2.0, but I wanted to test out the Item Categories and I really just needed a break, so I took a couple hours and implemented the Category filter, fixed the LocalPlayer issue and swatted a few bugs that crept in due to changes in handling of Mouse events. So, long story short, version 1.13 is available for download.

    For those that don't like scrolling through 150 categories to find a filter, I did set it up to only show categories that actually have some inventory, so that helps. Unfortunately, I'm no more fond of Turbine's Categories than most of the people I've talked with, so I will be looking into a way to streamline that even more. I'm currently leaning toward custom "super" categories that users can use to group some of those pesky, excessive, categories together.

    I loaded the plugin on all of my toons. One of which I deleted and created a different toon with a different name. However the deleted toon is still shown in the plugin. How do I remove that toon from the plugin since it no longer exists?

    Um, wait for version 2.0? *blush*

    Sadly, versions 1.0 thru 1.13 do not support removing characters through the interface. You can, however, remove a character by manually editing the file: CharacterList.plugindata.
    This file exists in the folder 'My Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\PluginData\username\servername\AllCharacters' folder (assuming the 'My Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online' folder is where your "Plugins" folder was created, if not, find where your Plugins folder was created and follow the "PluginData" part of the path from there).
    This file will have a bunch of entries in the form:
    Code:
        [6.000000] =
        {
            [6.000000] = 24.000000,
            [2.000000] = 65.000000,
            [3.000000] = 4261.156738,
            [1.000000] = "Garan",
            [4.000000] = 2108.000000,
            [5.000000] = 23.000000
        },
    Just find the one where your deleted character name is listed and delete the ENTIRE entry, including the number in brackets before the = sign outside the braces. That same directory will include a file that starts with "AltInv_" plus your character's name which can also be deleted. I'd recommend making a copy of the CharacterList file before editing it just to be safe. Alternately, you can delete all of the files in that folder and then start fresh with no characters listed.

    If you aren't comfortable editing or deleting the files manually, you might just want to wait for version 2.0 which should be up "soon™" - see Sapience for clarification - the majority of the changes are done (like character deletion), with just a few new options remaining to be implemented or tested.

    Let me preface this by saying this is the first plugin I have tried to install so I may be doing something wrong.

    When I "List" the plugins LOTRO sees AltInventory so I know I have it in the right place but when I try to load it I get:

    ...ings Online\Plugins\GaranStuff\AltI nventory\Main.lua:2: Unable to resolve package "Turbine.Debug".

    Thoughts?

    There's a Debug library in the Turbine Samples. I usually remember to comment that out before publishing a build, looks like I missed it this time. You can avoid that by downloading the Turbine Samples referenced in the third post of the thread:

    EDIT: The current version is up on LoTROInterface.com. Hopefully, you'll have a smoother experience from here on, sorry 'bout that.

    Re: [Plugin] Alt Inventory

    Version 2.02 with support for Euro clients and other new features is now available at LoTROInterface.com. See the opening post for details.

    If anyone finds an incorrect translation, either due to being too literal, out of context or a typo (especially on the Options window), please let me know by posting the incorrect text as well as a correction. If the text is also used by the in-game Vault window, the in-game text will continue to be used, whether it appears to be correct or not, for consistency with the game client. I am still working on identifying some of the Item Categories and their translations so a number of those entries will either show up in English or as "Undefined".

    Re: [Plugin] Alt Inventory

    Please note that versions prior to 2.03 will fail to load once LoTRO's "Update 2" patch is released. Version 2.03 is compatible with both the current client and "Update 2" so you should update AltInventory as soon as possible.

    Anyone who based any controls on my DropDownList control should be aware that the bug is in the test for handling Turbine's SelectedIndex bug. The test was invalid since no elements were in the list at the point that the test was performed and in "Update 2" that causes the control to fail to load. The DropDownList.lua in AltInventory 2.03 correctly populates an element before testing and will now work with both the current client and the "Update 2" patch.

    Ooops. I'm amazed no one mentioned that earlier. A stray test element got left in before the files were zipped to be published. It has long since been eradicated and version 2.04 is now available at LoTROInterface.com.

    Re: [Plugin] Alt Inventory

    Ver 2.05 is now available. This version adds real data to the Equipped Items & Stats panels as well as adding a Wallet display, a Known Recipes panel for tracking craft vocation and recipes and a Notes panel for keeping track of free form notes per character.

    The Equipped Items panel has limited use since the Item IDs are not yet programatically accessible which means that I can not create Examination popups for the items.

    The Wallet display and Stats panel are disabled by default. This is because they depend on the LocalPlayer:GetAttributes() function which is known to cause client crashes when a plugin is unloaded after a call to GetAttributes. This is an issue for AltInventory because the Backpack object is still subject to getting out of synch with the actual bag inventory and the only current workaround is to unload and reload the plugin - if the Wallet and Stats are enabled, this would cause the client to crash the next time the user accesses an inventory item and some skills such as mounts. To avoid crashing, the user would have to log out of their character instead of just unloading the plugin (logging out to the character selection screen is sufficient to clear the underlying Turbine bug). To enable the Wallet display and Stats panel, opent the Options window and check the "Enable Attributes" option. The Stats do not include a valid value for Crit Avoidance due to a bug in the underlying interface (it always returns a 0). The Stats for Creep play are not currently available to Lua so the Stats panel info is not all relevant for Creep play. Note that the separate Mitigations on the Stats panel are still valid - equipping an item such as the Flame Forfend set will show that the Fire Mitigation is still valid even though the built-in character screen no longer displays it.

    The Known Recipe list is organized in the same sequence as the existing crafting window so it is fairly easy to expand all recipes and then scroll down the lists checking off all known recipes. The default recipes are listed but do not have a checkbox (since they are automatically known). You can search for a specific recipe quickly by clicking Expand All (the "+" button at the top of the list) and then typing the name (or portion of the name) into the search text box - only matching recipe names will display. All of the available recipe lists, including the Lorebook, have numerous errors, some due to the changeover to multiple-output recipes, some due to erroneous user entries and others just being out of date and missing recipes. I went to considerable effort to include as many recipes as possible but there are still possibly some rep recipes missing and some Westfold recipes may also be missing. I would appreciate it if anyone knowing a recipe that is not included would PM me either here or on the LoTROInterface.com site with the specifics for the recipe - name, profession, tier, category (the grouping within the tier) and whether it is a one-shot or unlimited recipe.

    The Notes panel is just a free form text box where you can type any notes that you want per character (you can also enter a separate note under the "All" character selection).

    Re: [Plugin] Alt Inventory

    Version 2.06 is now available. This version introduces two new panels, Reputation and Traits and a few bug fixes.

    The Reputation panel allows users to set their reputation levels so that they can see which characters need to work on what rep. You have to initially set the rep levels yourself, but if you gain a reputation tier with a faction with Alt Inventory running, it will automatically update. The automatic update does not yet work for crafting guilds since their messages are a bit different and I haven't had a chance to add them to the chat handler - this will be addressed in a future update.

    The Traits panel allows you to track which traits you have slotted and which virtues you need to work on. To select the traits, click on the Traits panel, choose a type of trait from the tabs and then click the Select button. A list of all of the available traits for your class or race will show - the plugin has no way of know which traits you have actually earned, so all possible traits are listed. Click the traits that you actually have slotted and then click Save. For slotted Virtues, you can also click the up/down arrows next to the icon to change the level of the virtue. Some traits display a blank icon, this is because I have not yet identified all of the icon resource IDs and did not want to bloat the installation with JPGs for those that are unknown - the name is still displayed and should be sufficient if not quite as pretty. I will add the missing icons as I find them (a very time consuming process since the client crashes quite frequently while exploring the resource images).

    This version also fixes some recipe problems from previously unknown and/or unverified Westfold recipe info.

    Re: [Plugin] Alt Inventory

    Version 2.07 is now available.

    This version includes Proficiency and Mastery tier tracking for the crafting panel. You can manually set the tiers initially and if you have the plugin loaded when your tier advances, the plugin will automatically update. When manually setting the tier, just click the highest tier of Proficiency or Mastery that you have achieved (no need to click all tiers, the plugin will automatically account for lower tiers). Note, if your highest tiers of proficiency and mastery are the same, you only have to click the mastery as the plugin knows to require proficiency for mastery. Tier detection is fully compatible with all three clients, EN, FR and DE. This only applies to crafting tiers, FR and DE are not yet supported by the auto update for Reputation tiers.

    I fixed the missing German translation for Metalsmith.

    I have added recipe popup tooltips for the crafting panel - note, only recipes that exist as actual objects have a tooltip, default recipes can not have tooltips as they have no corresponding recipe item. To see the popup for the recipe just hover the mouse over the "info" icon next to the recipe name.

    The recipe lists have had a major overhaul to identify missing recipes and correct the categorization of "learned" recipes and default recipes. All default recipes and all recipes that can be learned from an in-game item except "Expertise" recipes are currently included. Some "learned" recipes appear in multiple tiers such as the LM pet talismans and "Officer's Armour" but these are distinct recipes and are correct. I have also updated the crafting recipes for Update 5.2 changes. I also added back the "duplicate" one-shot recipes that used trophy ingredients instead of shards since many players still have these old recipes known and with the "info" tooltip you can determine which version you actually know - I will probably be adding an option in a future version to hide the old recipes for those that don't care to see them.

    I gave up hoping that Turbine would ever expose the HUD status and modified the windows and icons to assume the HUD is displayed when the plugin is loaded. This assumption is fairly safe now that users can load plugins automatically via the Turbine Plugin Manager.

    I expanded the area where the user can click the Minimal Header display and fixed a bug in the header so that the main window is easier to move when showing the Minimal view.

    Re: [Plugin] Alt Inventory

    Ver 2.08 is now available. This version includes most if not all of the U6 recipes for the Known Recipe list as well as a new Wallet display for Gold, DP and all those barter currencies. There are also a number of minor bug fixes for things like the errors that the Stats panel was generating for Creep characters (Turbine unfortunately has not implemented any of the Creep stats for Lua).
