There wasn't any kind of HM that I saw. Hopefully something like that will be added in an upcoming release which will make the encounter a bit more challenging.

Grats on Thorog !
Yea, I recall reading there was no thorog HM. I just looked it up:
CLICKYSimilar to the Spider Wing, this is another case where we decided it would be best if the challenge mode involved more than simply doing the fight differently. In fact, this one might involve changing more than just the final dragon fight. We’re still working out the final design and all the details, but the goal is to make the challenge mode of this instance the most singularly difficult instance in the game, but to do so in a way that requires top level skill, timing, coordination, communication, and gear while not feeling arbitrary or dependent on a lucky die-roll or damage number.
Did he drop mirdanants for everyone? I have heard conflicting reports.
Chroner - R5 Champion * Cronor - R7 Lore-master
Qroner - R5 Minstrel * Qronir - R5 Rune-keeper

I'm fairly certain everyone that had the quest got Mirdanant.

Turning in Mirdanant still does the little elf party with dwarf crashers, and gives +10 radiance for two hours as a party favor.
I had the quest, had never gotten the axe before, so I got the axe off the corpse. I'm not sure what happens if you've never gotten the axe before, and didn't have the quest.
