Technical Problem: Login screen hangs at "Choose World" page
Am posting here because Turbine is currently not recognizing my account. (I've been "aethelberht" from Gladden since the game went live in April '07. I've been an active LOTRO player since SoA closed beta, December 2006.)
I cannot log into the game. When the login screen reaches the "Available worlds" page, the screen hangs and stops responding. The list of available worlds blinks every couple of seconds, but I am unable to click any buttons, make any world choices -- nothing. There is no sign of a queue or a delay. Just the available worlds screen staring at me. I've let it sit like this in the background for 10 minutes and it never goes through. I've been trying this now since Wednesday morning.
I have double-checked with Windows Update to ensure that all my drivers are up to date. I have run a virus scan, and no other piece of software gives me a problem. When I finally kill the process using Task Manager, the report says:

I am also experiencing this problem. I'm running windows xp. I am able to get into the game after a few hours of closing and restarting the launcher. Last night took me just under 2 hours. I did a fresh install of windows last night hoping to fix this, but no luck. I redownloaded the install files, still no luck.

Same here, tried port forwarding/firewall stuff just in case. I think I'll go back to my subscription game... even the website sucks...

I forgot to mention that I have played this game for a little over two years, and was in the f2p beta. This is the first time I've had this issue, including during the beta.

I'm both glad & sorry to know it's not just me. I did get an e-mail from Tech Support asking for me to supply some system info. No answer to problem yet, but want to thank tech support for fast initial response. Fingers crossed they can figure it out soon!

I am having the same problem. I was in the beta. My system, although licking the bottom of the barrel for system requirements, ran the beta client without any issue other than an occasional lag. I have uninstalled it, run a disk and registry cleanup, defragged the drive, and reinstalled. Same problem. Perhaps 1 time in 10 I can log in. How do I report this to tech support?

To be honest, I don't remember how I got to an e-mail or report page. I'm pretty sure it was from one of the tabs at the top of the screen here in the forums page. But beyond that, no clue.
Frustrated & frustrating. But whatcha gonna do? It'll be fixed when it gets fixed. When it's fixed, I'll gladly start playing & exploring. I'm just bummed to have missed the opening weekend Extra Points special. That's a shame.

Also, for what it's worth, I've not yet been able to get in at all. Some folks seem to have had a similar problem but managed to get in once in a long while. No such luck for me yet. Totally locked out. Sad panda!

Just received Tech Support email with link to try to reset the launcher/invoker/etc. Windows Firewall exceptions. I followed the instructions. But sadly the problem is precisely the same as it was before. No entrance, nothing past "Available Worlds." Sigh.

Am getting one or two Tech Support emails a day on how to fix. Keep trying them, but nothing's changing. Still unable to log in, a week in now. Really hoping there's a fix soon.

Another update, and a successful workaround!
After trying everything Tech Support threw at me (setting up new accounts, deleting & restoring files, etc.), I did something simple. I clicked on the Launcher arrow button at the top to take it from full version to compact version. When I did that last night, I got in immediately. Will try again today once the patch is up & running to confirm. If it works again, I'll let Tech Support know of the workaround.
Hope this is useful to other folks in the same boat!

I have tried your suggestion, and I am 4/4 this morning with being able to log in in compact mode. I am 0/3 in normal mode. Thanks!
