I reserve my opinion of the new site design for now, but I must ask: will we have to re-personalize our MyLotRO all over again?
Many of the most fantastic bloggers had completely personalized their blogs, with tables of contents, pictures, and other such things that can guide a reader easily through the blog. When I logged into the Community site, I found all of these Widgets I had created are completely gone.
Will we have to dig up all the different links, pictures, tools, etc. that we had before? I hope this problem is temporary and all the personalizations will be returned to our pages soon.
I'm with you...I'm pretty upset that all the work I've put into my blog is gone. I'm also missing all the photos I uploaded to My.Lotro in my posts (and my avatar).
I mentioned the following to Patience on Facebook:
"Just checked out the new site and my blog...I'm upset to see that all the work I've put into personalizing and decorating my blog has been deleted.
All the widgets I've created have been deleted and all the photos I've uploaded to My.Lotro... and into posts are deleted as well. The only images left are the ones I linked from photobucket. But I didn't start doing that till early this year.
I'm going to have to completely re-do the work on my blog that I've already done - including adding photos to half a year's worth of comic posts. And for some reason I only have 6 friends instead of ~390...over a year's worth of friending is down the drain. I see you guys added a friend update, which was needed (and I'm excited about it!) but I don't have any friends anymore, so it's useless until I re-invite all my friends back.
Please tell me this is temporary and it will be fixed in an update. Pretty please?! I'm dreading re-doing my entire blog."
She replied first with this response:
"I will ask about the photos, they shouldn't have been deleted! I'll forward your reports!"
And also this one:
"All of the photos are still in the file system, so it's probably a matter of making sure the paths are correct, so we'll look into that. I am not sure about the widgets though!"
So, at least they're aware of the photo/widget issue.
What's really weird, is I went into My Admin and to the "Widget" tab. It said I had 11 widgets on the left hand side, but none of my custom made widgets showed up. They did; however, add in the default widgets that I had previously deleted, like the "Gallery" widget. I think I might have shot myself in the foot though, cause I deleted the "Gallery Widget" and clicked "Save Changes". When I did that, I noticed that my widget count went from 11 to 4...even though I only deleted 1 widget...I hope I didn't loose the chance of recovering them for good.
Also, has anyone noticed that blog posts now go WAY outside the center box? I had carefully sized all my photos in my posts so as to keep my blog box wtihin the given my.lotro box...but now it stretches way out to the right. It looks 'unclean'...but I'm not sure how to fix it as all my photos are small enough to fit in the given space.
Here's hoping this issue gets fixed fast...all our blogs look so boring now!!
I really hope that the old blog posts, etc. just have yet to be migrated to the new system. Otherwise, I guess I'm starting again from scratch - default widgets, 0 posts, reupload the avatar, etc. If I truly have to start from scratch, I'm thinking it's time for linettslore.wordpress.com instead of my.lotro.com/usernumberwhatever...
Linett Redfern, 3 Haven Way, Ecthelhad, Falathlorn Homesteads of Nimrodel Lennidhren of Lórien, 5 Brookbank Road, Oldfurlong, Shire Homesteads of Landroval
I'm done for a while, since this is just too ridiculous--all that work just gone and now nobody can find your blog anyway because they're completely buried. All of those neat new tabs for different categories and they couldn't make a tab for blogs that shows the day's posts, featured bloggers, etc? I could be patient for working out the kinks if they hadn't totally wiped out all traces of the blogs (except for that great list of the last THREE posts). They obviously don't care about the fantastic blogger community that was the only reason I even ever opened the MyLotro page to begin with. This is just too silly to spend time on. Same with the game--too many bugs and absurd loading times. I'll check in with you guys in a month or so in the hopes that this has been fixed. Until then, Tuiliel wishes you fair winds and green paths (and she'll miss you!).
To Turbine.WB-9785572112,
I'm nearly in tears. I worked hard on my blog and on joining a wonderful blogging community. The work gone, and now I'm just a number.... To lose people like Whart and Battlemaiden over this is devastating. The people writing in this thread deserve better! They are the ones who pioneered the wonderful community you are pretending to have.

I also have this... it lists the number of Widgets I should have, but they aren't showing up. So I'm not touching Widgets until we hear from Turbine on that based on your experience...
I also am bothered by the blog posts going way to the right. My stories look like big walls of text (more than before :P ), and my bio info and such just looks simply unorganized going waay out of the way.
To Whart, since last night they have updated this a bit so its not too concerning. You can edit the amount of new Blog posts seen to any number you'd like, and the Widget (not Blog widget, Home widget) mover seems to be cooperating. I have my new blog posts widget at 10, not 3 for example. One thing I agree was a sore blow was the disappearance of the Featured Blogs panel at the top of the page (I hope they are able to implement this back).
I hadn't put nearly as much work into my blog as some, but what I can find now looks horrible! Walls of text, photos all over, spacing lost, any personalization gone.
Even worse is not being able to find all the blogs of people I loved to read. All the wonderful community that had developed around the blog site is just wiped out! It was hard enough to keep up with the old version, it's impossible now!
The forums look clunky and hard to navigate, but at least you can find them!
If you can't do better than this, please revert to the old version!
After you guys mentioned the formatting disappearing from your blogs, I checked mine out and realized why I thought my posts looked so ugly: All the spacing is gone. That's usually the only formatting I do, but I do it to break up the paragraphs so that you have little bits to read. Now it's the infamous wall-o-text.
I agree with everything posted here - and honestly, the most horrible thing about the new site is that our hard work and customization is GONE.
But I might as well tell you guys some other things I don't like, so here it is:
-avatars don't show up in the 'recent blog posts' widget. I am a VERY visual person...I remember avatars a heck of a lot better than names. I can't keep hundreds of names separate, but I can recognize people by their 'face'. PLUS: the avatars added a bit of much needed visual stimulation. Right now the home page is all just boxes of text.
- The search blogs function isn't complete. I typed in Ales and Tales in it's various forms (A&T, Ales & Tales, etc.) and not a single one of my posts showed up. (I looked for mine as they were the only way I could be sure something was missing). I have several A&T posts, but the search didn't find them. What else is it missing? I'm glad we finally have this option - but it needs to be a bit more thorough.
- I miss the featured blogs running atop the screen (and not just because I was one!) I read most of those blogs regularly and it was a great way for me to easily access some of my favorite bloggers. It was also a great way for new bloggers to check out some pretty awesome blogs. Can we have that back as a widget to add to our home-page? (it also added in some more visual stimulation.)
- There is STILL no "Older Posts" or "Previous Posts" option at the bottom of the page. Way back when when we had this option, I LOVED being able to scroll through pages of peoples posts. It also helped the blogs load faster (as we weren't forced to make our posts per page # really high so people wouldn't miss out on our posts.) You added the little "Page Menu" widget (which, basically, I like). But that doesn't cut it. I just want to scroll through the whole blog if I feel like it. That's how other blogs work, and how ours used to as well...but not anymore
Honestly, I REALLY hate to complain about this many things...I'm a rose-colored glasses type person. But every time I visit my.lotro and my blog it makes me sad. I loved blogging here, I loved reading blogs here. I spent as much time (sometimes more) on my.lotro as I did in game. But right now that is SO not the case. I'm not the only one either, you've got some major bloggers writing in this thread that they're upset. And case-in-point: Not a single new blog post has been made since the update.
Please help us Turbine. Give us back our blogs, as WE created them. Please let us know that this is something you will be fixing soon!

EDIT: I'd originally told Patience on Facebook (see above post) that my friends only totaled 6 instead of 394....but then said again that they did show up. Actually, my total friends list only shows up on my blog page. On the Player Portal page, I still only have 6 friends. And when I click 'Manage' friends, it STILL only shows 6 friends. I'm worried that the friend activity will only show the 6 friends listed on the portal...but have no way to verify it since no one is using My.Lotro....I have 394 friends and yet NO friend activity since the new site went live?! not good....not good at all.
Ok, in order to not make this a completely negative post, here are some things I like:
-we can change the colors of the entire site to our own customization.
-we can now have personal avatars uploaded to the forums as well as my.lotro.
-we can adjust how many posts show up on the 'recent blog posts' list.
-you added a search function *though I'm not completely happy with it.
-you added a 'friend's activity' function...though NO ONE is posting on my.lotro now cause all us bloggers are pretty upset...so it's useless right now. EDIT: actually, people are posting, as Harperella pointed out. But all the feeds letting you know that new posts are happening aren't working...so posting right now is pretty pointless.
Einarr, your second post just confirmed something I was suspicious of.
I have posted since the site update, and when I go to my page the post is there. So that means the RSS Feed (I guess that is where your getting info from too) for New Blog Posts is not working correctly.
And yes please Turbine, give us back our blogs as we created them if it is in anyway possible.
I'd never go so far as to say they can't ever change their design but the communication to us that it was in the works would have gone a long way to making this sudden change less personally agonizing. I've saidi t in several threads already, but I'm going to say it again (and probably again) ... at this point I'm feeling rather certain that I will no longer be participating with my.lotro.
The extreme reaction I'm having is silly to most, I'm sure... but I'm rather devistated. For as devistated as you can be about something like this.
Well, at least our Blog Posts weren't deleted. If they had, I would have certainly said "Fork it!", given up in a huff, and never looked back. So, they borked up MyLOTRO Blogs but only to the point of exasperation/frustration on part of their Players, not to the point of invoking Squirrley Wrath or Rage Quitting (at least as far as I'm standing).
So, if ever I find myself bored and waiting for more content I'll maybe take advantage of that time to reconfigure MyLOTRO Blog and fix the formatting of all the previous Walls of Text, reupload Images, and so forth, but it certainly is no longer a priority for me knowing this will most likely happen again the next time they redo the Forums/MyLOTRO.
But seriously, what is up with being reduced to a number? Our Logins are clearly unique. I earnestly wonder as to why this was done. I can easily remember someone's User Name, like "Bob" when I want to look up what is new in Figgy's life, but there is no way I would ever remember 13719 or whatever it may be. I can understand that there may be a Security Risk involved, but why not allow us to create an Alias? (Besides, our UserNames are disclosed in our Friend's Lists and on the Forums already...I somehow doubt that having our MyLOTRO Blogs using an url with our UserNames is going to put our accounts any more at risk than they already are.)

...The extreme reaction I'm having is silly to most, I'm sure... but I'm rather devastated. For as devastated as you can be about something like this.
I'm with you. I feel very depressed about it as well. I've put so much time and energy into my site to make it truly unique, fun and easy to use. Ophy, you and many others have done the same. They gave us cookie-cutter blogs, but using the basic tools they gave us, we turned them into something awesome (at least, as awesome as they could get).
It's not silly to feel this way. We've invested so much into our sites, and to be suddenly stripped of our hard work is quite depressing.
There are a lot of changes I'll get used to, like the look of the forums and what-not. I don't like sudden and unannounced change any more than the next player. This whole new site was kinda thrown at us without any warning. But I can learn to adapt.
However, to take away our hard work is another thing. People like Linett are missing EVERY post they ever made! If I was her, I think I'd just break down and cry - no joke. At least my posts are there, I'm just missing half my pictures and the widgets.
Patience said the pictures should come back - but what about our widgets? What about Linett's posts? What about Telwen's "Publish Button?"
Is the very buggy and non-functioning current my.lotro going to push all our bloggers away from the site? Will people come back and trust it after all this stuff is fixed? (please oh please let it be fixed!!)
Or is this the beginning of the end of the very loyal and tight-knit blogging community?
I'm probably being too dramatic about it all - but that's what happens when you invest a part of yourself into something.
At least we have like-minded people here that can empathize with how it feels.

That's not the case for someone like me. For someone like me the images and visuals I created were my form of creative expression and that is now literally destroyed.
Then what makes me feel even more horrible is how many of my posts were guides to using their forum and my.lotro systems. Seeing as this is a VERY elaborate system, the Turbine Community Team must have known about it for months and months so to have created guide after guide after guide that they knew would be irrelevant and a waste of my time teaching and the reader's time learning feels like a slap in the face.
Just like when they took out the possiblity of transfers without warning, these changes without warning simply leave me feeling an extreme disconnect to this game and the community sites.
I'm looking into these issues right now. It was not intended that widgets get removed, photos get broken, etc. I believe some of the migration did not work as intended so I'm trying to track down what went wrong and to get things set back up.
Few other notes:
While your blog URL will default to the 'user-123' format, the old links still work (my.lotro.com/nickname) and you can use those wherever you want. The reason we made this change was due to the number of issues we ran into with the blogs defaulting to being named the same as the user. It does make the default URLs a little less personal, but we made the change to address problems that many users have run into so we're hoping those folks will now be able to participate.
For folks that have a totally clean blog, I believe the issue is that the old blog was de-linked from your account. I'm going through and verifying this - once I find the source of the issue I believe I'll be able to link blogs back to the proper user. No blog posts, blogs, or images were deleted in this upgrade. It looks like users and blogs just didn't get associated properly.
I'll check on the widget issue but it looks like there might be a problem there. I would recommend not updating your widgets at this time until I can determine what's going on.
For images uploaded to MyLOTRO that are not showing up properly in your posts, I believe the issue is that the image display script is failing when the URL contains your nickname instead of your user ID. I think this is a bug that we'll be able to fix but if you want your images to show up now, you can try changing those image URLs to use your user-ID URL instead of your nickname URL.
We're working as quickly as we can to get these issues resolved, sorry for the problems you're seeing!

Dang, I knew as soon as I "Saved Changes" and saw that widget count go from 11 to 4 that I made a mistake...oh well, I'm just glad others *hopefully* learned from it.
Thank you Bracket for responding and looking into our issues
Main column waaaaay too huge - this is a style issue where the main column isn't using a fixed width (or cutting off images that are too wide). In most cases I've seen, there's an old post with a very wide image that blows out the whole column.
Friend activity is empty - this service isn't actually running yet so there is not data to populate that widget. As of right now, this will stream in-game activity of your friends to your portal page but will not show web activity. Web activity is the next item on the plate for that widget.

Thanks for the responses Bracket. I hope you all can figure everything out
Unfortunately, I guess my blog is staying waaay to the right.... half of my blog are images that are wide which I guess is the problem (even though I just checked, and found none of my images stretch as far as my page is) because of Walk Across Middle-Earth.

Is this function something we'll have some control over in terms of filtering?
For instance, I *honestly* don't really want to see an update every time one of my 394 friends finishes a quest or a deed or levels up. I don't like that function on my.lotro and have it disabled on my page. I'll just be deleting the widget until it gets some web activity action going on.
While I DO want to see web activity for my friends. I'd like to be able to sort it out from all the in-game achievements that will show up on the widget.
So will we be able to filter which info comes to us through that widget? Also, will we be able to filter specific friends out of the filter? (Kind of like how you can 'hide' activity and/or friends on Facebook.)
Ultimately, it'd be cool to have the below options on the filter:
-show/hide in-game achievements (which could be further filtered by deed, quest, reputation and gaining a level.)
-show/hide forum posts
-show/hide my.lotro posts
-show/hide my.lotro comments
-show/hide my.lotro ratings
Also, it'd be nice to have an option to apply the selections to all friends or let us select which friends to apply the filter to. That way, if I always want to see what posts Ophy rates (for example), I can do so without seeing what posts every 394 friends rate
Is this function something we'll have some control over in terms of filtering?
Not at launch. It will be very spammy for players like yourself with a lot of friends. We will be tinkering with exactly what events we push to these logs but it's mostly intended for someone who wants to see what a small group of friends is up to. We will likely continue to work on it and add features that make it useful to folks with a ton of friends.

I, for one, am glad that someone has taken notice of these issues. Thank you...
Will the blog entries retain their formatting at some point?
Also, please note that trying to post a blog entry in a role playing capacity as one of your characters results in a HTTP 500 Internal Server Error.
I have a few fixes for MyLOTRO style close to ready, not sure when I'll be able to deploy them (it's a little busy around here right now). The simplest changes are setting the width of the main column, hiding image overflow (this is going to be different from previous where wide images would just break out of the column), and adding some padding to paragraphs. These were actually included in our deployment, we've just been having some new and fun problems with caching web assets over the last couple of days.
There are still performance issues we're tracking down in our web environment though I don't have anything specific to tell you all. I'm sure you are as aware of these issues as we are right now.
I'll also look into post as character although I can't promise that will be fixed as soon as the other issues. This is a feature that has not been widely used and causes a number of issues with other, more frequent site activity. I believe that we've removed character blog posts from character sheets at this time because of performance considerations and because it is very rarely used.

Just found this thread! As soon as I saw the revamp of the entire site the first thing I did was go hunting for my blog. It looks wonky, like everyone else's and I did a WHAT? for a couple minutes.
I'm glad I found this thread before I started "re-building" my posts because most of my photos were made into "links" - I'm just going to sit it out and wait to see if that can be fixed.
Lunna, I'm sorry to hear about your widgets.
I'm glad to hear things are getting fixed on the blogs thanks to Bracket. I'd hate to lose touch with all my bloggie friends on my.lotro so I hope everyone comes back to blogging there once the bugs are smoothed out.
At least you can get into your My Lotro... All I get is a white box with the word "False" in the upper left corner that covers all the choices. I have been getting this "False" box since the update.

Yep, they did fix it--by removing the blogs from my page altogether. There are no longer any references to blog posts of any kind, and I've clicked on everything on the entire page and can't find anything to fix it.

The "false" listing is an IE8 thing. I downloaded a new browser and that issue went away. Things are still really slow...48 sec. to open the "Reply with quote" page.
Thanks Brackett, for honoring us with some answers.
It helps a lot to know someone cares and is trying to do something for us. Now that I've appreciated your efforts so far, I have more questions.
I would like to know if the featured blogger list will come back and if the recent posts list will include avatars. Like Lunna, I'm very visual. I click on the posts of my friends when I see them in the list. I don't see anyone any more.
I also don't see where we would click to request new friendships. I have looked. Is this coming back as well?
Please go back to the drawing board on the number thing. How hard can it be for my address to say a name instead? Will we be able to change our forum user names now? I want mine to be Gaiagil instead of Elf-Friend46 which I picked way too long ago and before I actually made any characters. I made this request before but was told that the system couldn't handle it as my user name was used to log in. Now that it is not, I think we should be able to change those.
Sorry for the barrage of questions, but we are all very concerned and there are lots of dimensions to these problems.
Bracket, thanks for responding to our concerns! It's nice to know that someone's trying to help.
In the long run, it would be great to have a "title page" of some sort for the blog posts again. Even better if it could have more than a handful of the latest posts linked -- scroll on the old one took things away far too quickly at busy times!
Ok, for my blog, the text formatting is back. All that is left is the links to the pictures, my customized widgets, and the fact that everything disappears when you mouse over a tab at the top.
I realize that yesterday was big day for Turbine, but I am hoping someone will get on the stick and fix this soon.

My text formatting seems to have returned as well.
My text formatting also is better. I'm glad of that. I think I share Lunna's widget problem though. When I saw the mess on my page, I added the banner. Of course, through my tears of frustration and despair, I put it in the left column by mistake, which really messed up my page, then I deleted that and added it successfully to the center column. The result.... the ghost widgets are gone from both columns. This was before Bracket suggested not to make changes. I'll wait for the fix to see if by some miracle they can restore my widgets. I had a good one for Falathlorn day. If not, I guess I'm rebuilding!
Thanks for the update! It's a relief to think that my posts are still out there somewhere...hopefully they will find their way home soon; I've been afraid to make any new posts in case that might mess something up with getting the old ones back!

I'm glad I found this thread; I can now bookmark some users whose names I had lost. I don't keep my friendslist public on my blog (as I feel it's distracting from my theme, though that may change temporarily) so all I get to see are 6 lucky ducks on my private lotro homepage.
While I'm excited for the good changes, I'm saddened over the bugged ones and I do very much hope those who lost their content will have it returned to them soon. I can only imagine how heartbreaking it would be to see all that work disappear.
I've already read about some bloggers discussing their new/old blogspot/wordpress/.com sites and am hoping they'll return to my.lotro when things have been fixed. Thanks to the CMs for being our glue; helping us hang on while you stabilize the place.
Yep, they did fix it--by removing the blogs from my page altogether. There are no longer any references to blog posts of any kind, and I've clicked on everything on the entire page and can't find anything to fix it.
Not just yours, my few are gone too - luckily the only one that would really concern me is duplicated in the lorebook.
I can't recall if mine were here in the first couple days or not, don't think I looked at them...
Interestingly, the couple that were under my kinship name are still there.
I suspect, at least in my case, that they might be gone for good - I did all my blogging under the character name Arbalister, *not* the player named Arbalister. (Which Bracket mentions as a source of confusion in the old system...)
Lucky you, my kinship page is gone and the blogs I wrote and illustrated are no longer there. Does anyone know if the kinship pages are also going to get fixed, or is mine the only one with the problem?
