I bumped into Kaleigh and Ashenwood in the Pony last night. Very nice dancing, ladies.
(0_o) Ahh.... I must have missed... I was out farming when the annoucement for the Green Hill Band went up and went on a scouting trip looking for the tavern they were playing at...
When I finally got there, there where a couple of people, but I was a wallflower for the moment and sat off in the distance. XD
I mostly just watched - still not very comfortable with the /emote system. I'm going to try to be hanging out in the Pony in the evenings for a bit, so come by and chat with me!

Although, no worries about the /emotes you don't need to be a superstar player in order to have fun. XD
...Anyways all I know how to do is /sit... and /lie... oh and /roar... I make fun of a player who is a captain everytime he roars, by beating him to the roar. XD

Yes, they make quite a team! [Ashen (and her many personas) is a very lovely lass herself IMHO]
*whispers very quietly so Ashen doesn't hear* And don't tell Ashen I am saying this... but if you ask her really, really nice, she may even play a lovely tune on her harp.

Again, I apologize for another sidetrack, but an easy way to access emotes is to click on the "bubble" next to "say" in the chat window. When the bubble is clicked, a list of other channels pops up and at the bottom is an emote option. When you highlight the "emote" option, another list pops up with emotes and so forth -- as there are 6-7 seperate lists of emotes. There may be different ways to access a list of emotes, but I find this way the easiest IMHO. I promise you will enjoy the dozens of emotes available as they are quite fun.
*Back to the regular program of singing Kaleigh's praises*

True, and I'm having fun writing Caribeth's back story right now.
It's a game. It's not real. The people behind the avatars may be real, but given the distances involved I will never meet any of them in real life.
Doing good deeds in a game like this is a bit silly, isn't it? I gave a buddy of mine who started with LOTRO the other day 20 gold. Just like that. But that doesn't make me good and I wouldn't count it as a good deed.
You want to do good deeds unto others? Let me get my spare EMT uniform for you.

I disagree. (^_^)
The game world isn't real (actually its not even original considering they took it from a literary work.) The cartoon characters we masquerade aren't real. And the events we sturggle and encounter aren't real as well, but the actions and attitudes others display are real.
Perhaps people except a show of goodness need to be exaggerated to be worthy of consideration (example. surgery being performed by a doctor within a hospital, an EMT at a tragic scene or perhaps God liberating the world of her plagues and tragedies), yet what of the simple acts of kindness? Should they be ousted just because they aren't just as heartwrenching, amazing, or theatrical?
Good deeds are good deeds. Giving a friend 20gp in a video game is a good deed. Just as giving a friend 500 dollars in times of need is a good deed.
So I do apologize as I do not burden the same veiws as you. A good person is a good person and thats worth admiring.

You are right, it's a game. It's not real BUT behind those simple words, behind the screen there is human, with all their default and qualities.
You dont know how are their days, if they are sick, rich, healthy, in love or betrayed, bitten or .... well you dont know.
But dont you hope that sometimes, with one of your ingame attitude, you put a real smile on the face behind the screen, allowing the person to feel better even for 10 secondes ? it is just a little tiny shy smile but it can be a little start.

That's true, I don't know. And to be 100% honest... I don't care. I don't know that person, I will never know him or her. Why should I care? To make the world a better place? *insert wretching sounds here* The world is full of wolves. I rather speak softly and carry a big stick than caring about every single one of the 6+ billion **** sapiens we have. Because if I would start with that, I'd go nuts very quickly.

I do, and i know it is real.
In fact, no, I don't. Because I don't know that person behind the screen. He can be an alien from Venus for all I care. If I want to feel better, I go to my friends. To people I love and care about. To my 10-year old niece, to my god-daughters, who, sadly, I only see twice per year since they are on the other side of the planet (literally.) I go to people I would die for, people I would kill for. But I'm not looking for any of that in a game. My 10-year old niece beats the whole lot of LOTRO players, with all 11 million WoWers added as well.
I want to feel better for 10 seconds? I hop on Skype to listen to how her days was, for example. Nobody in this game, or any other game, will ever be able to achieve this effect on me.

They are only real if you believe they are real. And online... well... I can pretend to be a nice guy in game, it's not hard, but be a real and total ******* in reality. I don't spend my life in the game, so it's easy to pretend to be someone I'm not. When I was younger I sometimes did stuff like that, simply for the literal ****s and giggles and to prove how easy it is to make people believe whatever you want them to believe, especially online.

Giving him 20 gold is transferring a few bytes of data. 500 dollars are real money, used in the real world for real things (real food, for example.) The way I see it there is no way pixel gold is even just remotely similar to that.

Don't ever apologize for seeing things differently. If we all had the same views... OIVECH! Zombieland!

I guess the only difference is that i was not speaking of your own satisfaction but the one you could simply offer to someone else.
During many years in France i was helping children in hospital and people who had to start again a new life, i did not know them before and never wait to get something in return. I was just there.
And i have also a family, i have friends, old and new, and even friends i met through internet and who went to visit us.
Clearly you feel good, but how giving a little of that to someone else ?

Indeed...some here have expressed how virtual good cannot be real, most here have expressed the direct opposite. I'm in the category "Karma is a *****"...er...I mean, "Do unto others as you would have done unto you", and this holds for virtual or real actions. Because virtual actions are just one step removed from how you really would respond in real life.
+1 Rep to Veliana by the way...excellent reply.
To the nay-sayers here, say your piece but do not expect anyone to change their mindset over your limited viewpoint.
Look, Kaleigh didn't "ask" for this thread and I promise she does not seek attention. It is rather unfortunate (and extremely petty) that something good has degenerated into something like this.
What a sad commentary that we are made to feel like we have to "defend" a thread of this nature. *boggle*
If doing good, if being kind, if encouraging others, if giving while expecting nothing in return has become a crime... then I pray that Kaleigh, myself, and the wonderful people I know on this server get life sentences!

`Well, now that we have seen each other,' said the Unicorn, `if you'll believe in me, I'll believe in you. Is that a bargain?'
(^_^)
If ever you need yourself a friend within LOTR look me up. Even though our points of veiw are different I respect your wisdom.
Sadly I still believe in good deeds no matter the medium in which they are portrayed, yet that is me, an optimistic fool. XD
@ Kaleigh I do apologize for de-railing your thread.

Mae pennen! Mae pennen! Mae pennen!
Can I join in on the life sentence?
[I let your initial comments go hoping that you were one and done, but you had to come back and leave me no choice]
*sighs because he has to spell it out and people just can't get a hint*
Here's my loose translation...
You come into a thread that has NOTHING to do with you. You insinuate in your self importance that because YOU haven't heard of Kaleigh she must not be that big of a deal. We praise Kaleigh's character and you insult us by telling us to "get a life"... which shows your character. So, does "the teapot calling the kettle black" ring a bell to you? Whose character do you think people appreciate more?
BTW -- since you KNOW everybody on Landroval, surely someone must have started a thread on your behalf in the past. Correct?

After the recent de-railment of this thread that ended in the tragic deaths of 18 goblins and orcs, we the fan club, have rebuilt this thread and now order it back on topic.
thank you.
So much that I waited until all o' the loonies came outta the woods first to dampen ye's initial excitements. But I have to inform ye,
I saw her first!
Bounder administrator of antiquities and accoutrements.
Gaffer Capudo, curmudgeon founder of the Bounder Museum of Antiquities.
Dagodor, wine drinker, Legion of Gondor.

Because it's a game, it's not real. The people I run into in this place are on the other side of the world (literally, since I'm not in the Americas.) I will never meet them, it's very unlikely that they will ever play a part in my life. I mean a real part.
Primarily I play this game, any game, to have fun, but not necessarily to be the clown for others for their entertainment. And let's be honest, we all play it to have fun, otherwise we wouldn't play it. None of you plays to satisfy me. You play to satisfy yourself. Face it.
Don't get me wrong here. I'm not going "no, piss off!" when someone asks for help. Past few days I've been grouping a lot in the Northdowns, partly on quests I had done a while ago.
Should we help each other? Sure as hell yes. Why? Because it makes live easier for all of us.
But the problem is, at least from my experience people will eventually abuse you. You give them your little finger and they'll want your whole arm. And many won't even stop there. Eventually you'll be known as a "good idiot" that does everything for anyone who just asks.
I've been there. I've been the good idiot IRL. Oh we need help with this! Ah, let's just ask him! Someone needs to do this. Oh wait a second, could you do this for me? And I said yes, of course, because I was "good" and "nice". On good days I got a thank you. But most of these days weren't good.
Then things changed. My niece happened. She was four back then. Back then people at work also knew that I wouldn't really say no to shifting vacation or trading places with somebody else. So I had my vacation planned, my niece would turn 5 during it, and one of my co-workers asked me if I would be so kind and trade the time with him because... I don't really remember anymore. I looked at him and said "No." Most people were "***!"
Why? Because all of the sudden there were priorities.
Priorities, that's what it comes down to. and people I know, people I care for, people I love will ALWAYS be the #1 priority.
And the rest? Maybe, if I feel like it. If not, tough luck.
As for the topic at hand. Being like that is Kaleigh's decision. I've never met her so I'm not going to judge. If being like this r0xx0rs her s0xx0rs, that's fine. Better her being like this than the way some people are out there. No doubt about that. And yeah, good job if it's working for her and the people involved.
Am I admiring her for this?
No, sorry. It takes a lot more to get my admiration and as a principle... I don't admire forum celebrities or in-game celebrities. IMO such admiration is just silly.
PS: you do realize that, partly, I am playing devil's advocate in this and a few other topics, right?

Very briefly, yes i read you perfectly, and of course we could go on and on with this derail topic, because of our respectives experiences.
You have in your last post very interesting points, and i have a lot of others to show you that life can give you the best or the worst coming from human people, and this is why we must keep hope, but not in this thread anymore
Well, what was a good natured testimonial to a friend of so many had degenerated.
No this is not real, and "good deeds" in this game are easy to do. But it is not Good deeds that make us love Kaleigh, It is the good person behind the Avatar.
And the person behind the avatar IS Real, and through many long and rewarding conversations with Kaleigh I can tell you she is good a friend as anyone could have, in game or out.
This "Player" had helped me through hard times, brightened my mood, and been there for me, can you ask more of anyone ?
