While you guys are a great class, my only beef is with your birds. when people are in the ah, and your standing close to us with your bird summoned, its a pain the neck to have to have that thing flapping in your line of vision! yes, we can move, but its common courtesy to please move your pet out of line of site when in a fellow or anywhere else where there is a group of people. its hard to concentrate in a fellow or at an ah when you got a bird flapping near your head. please, in a fellow don't put your bird right next to our heads, or in ah, don't summon your bird. if you do, at least park it away from the group. its really annoying.

Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
Having watched Camber and his two birds. This is my thoughts on them. I have suggested a solution of arrow in the Breast. I am thinking they are tasty. Camber is not having any of this.
The Eagle is a sentient Being. They are not noted for their total obedience. They fly about. Sit. Wander around. More or Less as they desire. They do not like being put away.
The Raven is rather dumb. Full of Energy. Can not seem to sit still. It can be ordered about. Turn your back. The Raven is up to something. The Raven also comes with the "Dumb Look for Free" on its face.
I usually convince Camber to get the Lynx. I like the Lynx. Lynx likes tasty animals. It usually not hard to get Lynx to kill a Bird. We share the meal. Lynx does not like getting the feathers off. Feathers not a problem for me.

Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
I made a suggestion YEARS ago that people should drop their pets when in crowded places, like towns, craft halls, auction halls, vaults etc., where they are clearly NOT needed.
I suspect you will get as much traction as I did way back when...
Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
I have to say I totally agree. My main is a 61 LM and my own bird annoys me so I try to not bring them out except when really, really needed. I feel it's dumb to have any pet out in a crowded area. Especially when you aren't going to have to fight.
My own bird gets in the way sometimes when I'm trying to do things.

They are annoying as all heck. Camber never uses his Eagle or Raven in crowded place. Prefers his Songbird or Lynx. Camber used to use his domestic cat. The constant meowing drove some people crazy. Lynx is quiet.

Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
I hate the birds in general even though I use them all the time. I wish I could just summon a small orb to follow me around with all the same abilities as either the raven or eagles, but with zero animations, noise, or annoyingness.
Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
I try to remember to dismiss combat pets in all such places. If I am in the mood, I will bring out the cosmetic ones instead. I find the dog & kitty attract a lot of converstion and petting, where as the snake just attracts conversation.

Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
I can understand the frustration of others when the LM Birds are out. I must admit that sometimes I do have my bird out in "public" places, for that I am sorry that it bothers you. Usually it is right after a raid that I run to the vendor to repair or go to the Relic Master.
In these areas, the pets stay right at head level, next to the LM, there is no way to move it away from that spot. Perhaps there could be a "fix" that the birds sit on a LM's shoulder while we are standing in one spot.
Usually I have my Lynx out though, she doesn't seem to cause as much trouble as those crazy birds. There are always going to be graphic issues in highly populated areas, of course there are always issues otherwise as well. Such as Captains Halberds slicing the horse's hindquarters while riding. Just things that make you go 'huh?" I think that the biggest issue in high populated areas is sparring. That isn't going to change. Perhaps with the new layering system it will reduce the overall issues that are going on.
Sorry to throw this off track with the other comments, now back to LM Pets, I personally will try to remember that the birds fly at your eye level and get in the way of you talking to an NPC:-)

Because even LMs have the same issues with their pet (And Other LM's pets) some time

Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
Good to bring this subject up on the forums. I doubt many "offenders" read the forum, but at least it will give other LMs a pause.
When not questing, I try to never have my battle pets out. I do, however, almost always have my pet rabbit with me. I am amazed at how many conversations I get into with him giving a "pet me" look at passerbys. He is innocuous enough and I have never had a complaint. In fact, my little furry friend has made me some great acquaintances in game and they actually ask about my pet when they see me. [To heck with you, "Where's your cute pet rabbit?" "Can I hold him." "I brought some carrots specifically for your friend."]
I also tell people I taught my rabbit how to understand human language -- so, my rabbit will do "emotes" and such during conversations. Talk about getting reactions! Shoot, he even won 2nd prize in a fashion show.

Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
news flash: the bird(s) are annoying to us too. If you play 3rd person, the stupid things flap right in our way, often borking up players who use the mouse in-combat to target things or the like. They are just annoying, period, and should possible be revamped by turbine to rest on our staff (eagle?) or shoulder (crow?) or something when out of combat.
news flash 2: to move the bird, we have to move around until its where we want it, then lock it in place, and remember to unlock it when we leave or it will despawn. This is not a good idea. Dismiss the pet is a good idea, that is easy and quick to do. However this means the LM has to constantly fool with this just because somone else may be unwilling to shift their camera angle. In either case, for either side of *that* argument, it comes down to who is too epically lazy to move their mouse, the LM or the victim of malicious bird to the face.
I do not agree that pet dismissal is "common courtesy" however. This is a poorly defined term that is extremely subjective. I mean, I could claim that its common courtesy to not invade my virtual personal space (which you would have to do, to get close enough to be bothered by my bird). Now who is being rude? Its all subjective.

Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
Simple (probably not) solution - designate certain areas as "towns", and when you're in one of them, your bird will use a "sit on the ground" animation unless you're moving.

Likewise, I never have my combat pet with me in the AH, but I sometimes bring RocketJSquirrel.
I know how annoying the birds (especially the eagle) can be to other players. I was once talking to a vendor in Eregion when the guy standing next to me sent me a tell: "Get your eagle out of my face!"

Ya know, I have to say my first reaction was to think "Whaaa. Suck it up". But after spending some more time on my champ lately, and missing several clobbers in SG because I kept clicking on my buddy's fracking bird time and again, I'm changing my tune. They're annoying, and I'll keep mine in my back pocket until absolutely necessary.
Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
Meh I am more annoyed by people with lynx pets in the moors where I see the 2 stealth messages all the time and that makes me think Oh **** warg oh wait nvm lynx

Huh, I don't play in the moors, but i thought this was fixed in PvMP?
Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
lol @ "fixed" and "PvMP" being used in the same sentence in the absence of some sort of negative adverb.
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

No, I got that part... I honestly haven't touched the moors with any seriousness due to the MoM launch fubar... and while things are better, there really aren't any real resources being expended on the PvP experience lately. Thus my quip, did not mean for it to be directed at you in particular, just at the notion that things actually get fixed in that zone.

Oh no, I got your meaning, both ways lol. I simply don;t have (hardly any literally) experience directly about PvMP to have negative Or Positive feelings on the matter. I just recall that specific issue because it affects PvE as well (tho IIRC, PvE was not changed so you can still get a "someone is sneaking on you" when there's a sneaky hobbiy munching besides you)
Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
On my LM I rarely use my raven outside of skirmishes atm. You think having a bird flapping its wings and cawing in your ear. Try it with a pet parrot. He hears the raven and thinks its a challenge and screams back at it. It's "Caw Caw" then "ScccCCcREEEEECH" then I throw a shoe at the parrot. (not really)
Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
Sometimes one might forget the pet or might not even be thinking about how annoying it can be.
I know my bear has a very big butt and for a lil Hobbit, that can be extremely annoying
considering when he is summoned on top of me all you see is my head.
The thing is actually bigger than the Hobbit pony.
Bears would be an awesome mount for the little people
but I guess if the bear wasnt Beorn himself it would be
too far out of tune with the lore.
Not saying Beorn gave rides to Hobbits, but who is to say
Beorn would refuse if Gandalf or Rhadagast asked him to carry a little Hobbit safely
to a certain place.
Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
Sorry to have bothered you, OP, with my idiot bird, but, frankly...
1. I bet you love when I have my eagle out and he is giving you power regen. Especially like areas where mobs are, which brings us to:
2. For some reason I cannot summon him in combat, so the devs make me have to summon him in places like the stables so I don't forget to summon him and accidentally walk into a mob, with only 3/4 of my power and morale. Take off your hat, vest and leggings and tank a mob you accidentally run into, since we are both light armor classes from your mini symbol in front of your name, do NOT put them back on and let me know when to rez you.
3. Unfortunately, most of the time, he is a bother to me also, but when I get back to the second point, I would rather put up with an stupid bird that is not smart eno to get out of the way than die. It is better for me and you, if I am grouped with you, that I have the habit of keeping some pet up all the time.
Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
I don't see anything wrong with keeping the pet in auction halls or whatever. As long as it doesn't get in the way of the npc for others.
I find it annoying to have to keep re-summoning the pets. But I do try to keep it out of other peoples way.
These are Loremaster pets, we shouldn't have to hide them. I don't agree with some posts here. Other classes have their annoying things also. And if a group I was on didn't like it, then I would leave the group, easily.

I agree with this.
I never have problems targeting with any of the birds flapping around. The only thing I have trouble targeting is the bird itself when they flap around.

Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
+rep Darlgon.
I'm sure the pets aren't such a huge issue for you when a bear force taunts a stray mob off you while you're trying to spam bolster, or the +60ICPR for the entire fellowship from the eagle, or the fellowship wide shadow mitigation from the raven which makes YOUR job easier.

I think you missed the part where OP said it was annoying IN TOWN. If you plan on camping out in AH or Craft hall it is a different story than if you are just popping in to use the vault/vendor. The latter case you might be justified not dismissing a pet. You of course do have the right to be a jerk in the former case. Yeah it takes 6 seconds to re-summon when you leave the safety of the town for the wilds of Middle Earth. It's not like you would think to check your status (buffs, gear, pet) before you go to engage mobs or likely are to encounter them. I guess that's just me...
Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
Has it ever occurred to you that my eagle doesn't want some stupid Hobbit gawking at him when all he's trying to do is stretch his wings? A little respect for nature, please.
Re: Lore-master's, a little common courtesy please!
Lets see if we can get players to not stand on top of the npcs first, then we can talk about pets... Most then time when I have a hard time talking to npcs at vault/AH it's due to a crowd of people that seem to think that they can only use/talk to the npc when standing in it's pants. So, lets see if players can get into the habit of talking from say a pace away from npcs, then we can ask them to move the birds out of our faces
