Thread: Do Cards need to be "Verified by Visa"?

I live in Canada and have a pre paid Citizen's Visa card which I now use to pay for Aion game subs. It is a new card since these prepaid cards expire after 3 years or so. The old card I used to pay for EQ2 subs for 5 years or so. Last Aug before I got my new Citizens Card number for the next 3 years, I had tried to sub to LOTRO and it would not work (on the old card). I made several phone calls with Turbine and Citizens customer service. Citizens said there was nothing wrong at all and issued several authorization numbers but Turbine said they didn't know what the problem was on their end and for some reason could not help me and finally blew me off saying if I wanted to play enough I would find a way (lol). Since then, I have dug through hundreds of posts and had a thought..Do all credit cards accepted by Turbine HAVE to be "Verified by Visa"? Citizen Bank cards are NOT Verified by Visa so could this have been the problem? Interesting that I had to figure it out on my own if so with no help from Turbine Customer service...

I went out and bought MoM from EB Games and am currently playing and loving the game. My free 30 day time is up Sept 5 and I also want to purchase the ADV pack and Mirkwood as well as sub to the 3 month plan. This has been long delayed for me and I really want to sub, buy packs and play with no probs but this card issue is scaring me to even try again. I really don't want to go through the same thing with the 15 + $1 charges on my card. I have no idea why this game is so difficult to take my money. No other game has ever given me a problem trying to pay them as Turbine has in the past.

So Victorie I see you post and help a lot. Do you have any thoughts as to the Verified by Visa thing or anything else you can help me with at this time?

I also would just try to use the card to buy the ADV pack but it wants me to select a sub (I would be choosing the 3 month deal) and I am wondering if it goes through and the card is accepted would the sub money come out at the same time as the Adv pack or would the $20 or so for the ADV be taken off THEN the 90 day payment ($29.99 or w/e) come off on Sept 5th when my 30 days runs out?
