Thread: Surnames!

It's really too bad "Auric Goldfinger" is from another franchise, because it would make an awesome dorf name.

For those on RP servers it's worth to note only Men of Bree and western Hobbits had surnames.

Dwarves had clans and nicknames etc, but not surnames as we would think of them.

My dwarf's name is Drobur Graventongue, deemed for his silver-tongue.

I have a Dwarf with nickname surname of Barazbund = Khuzdul rough translation of red beard

I gave my characters surnames that started with the first letter of their names.

Burglar: Jeckyl Jacks
Guardian: Hearst Helmsley
Lore Master: Lecter Lynch
Warden: Skirm Stone

Drugar Blackbeard, taken from the Deathgate Chronicles by Weis/Hickman. The first Dwarf I came to like in my first ever read Fantasy Saga. Not Tolkinesque but quite unique I thought.

Well he is the only one with that name on the server …

I choose Hammershield as mine, mainly 'cos my character usually fights with the Hammer/Shield combo.
Contemplating a change as Maldurin Hammershield is too long a name!

My dwarves all take their surnames from their respective crafting professions.

(Capn)Squorin Onyxfist is my guardian jeweler
Pourin Eightyproof is my minstrel cook (not the most lore-friendly surname but I leveled his cooking on 100% alcohol, so I enjoy it)
Snoarin Sunscorched is my scholar/farmer rune-keeper (who also leveled his farming on 100% pipeweed, hence his perma-sleepy demeanor. He's also a ginger.)

My character name is Skalbalin Ironhelm even if he is not an armourer.

My dwarf name is Lavin and his sirname is Lavablood. He got the name Lavablood of his bravey and as a young dwarf boy, he was attacked by fires and flames that burnt him as his blood.

Well.. I have to say I get a kick out of the funny names....
-Yipyips Hooray - Very cute! This way a hobbit burglar who would cheer everybody who killed something in her presense.

-Sugarsweet Coffee - Made me giggle as it was a spider....

-Hooloo Winterwolf - Fine surname, but what shocked me was the generation of them. Every time I log on, I always see at least one " _______ Winterwolf"

Sadly, my Dwarf doesn't yet have a surname, but some come to mind:
