Hello gang. Most of you will know me as Freaking Elas. I'm reaching out to the whole server looking for ideas and volunteers to help me put together a server wide competition that is meant to be fun and help unite the community. As some of you may know, I have given away a good sum of in game gold. I'm word is golden, I will try my best to make this fair and fun, but I need help in organizing it. I want to reach out to all of my friends and even those who may not know me.
Here is what I need: I need people to help me organize this.
Then I will need people to help donate to the rewards, but I imagine a large sum of this may come out of my own pocket.
The first series of this is on a trial basis. Let's see how it goes, and I will continue to refine the terms and conditions based upon my volunteers of helpers.
Again, I need helpers. Please send me mail in game or reply to this posting stating you want to help organize this. We aren't going to take any donations until we have all of the rules in place.
I also need suggestions from people about the contest and how to keep it fair and honest. Here is what I put together so far:
Gladden Group Contest
Purpose: To bring the server together in friendly fun competition.
How will it be judged: Each group will have a judge placed outside of the instance. A timer will start as soon as the first person in the group enters the instance. The timer will end when the last person in the group comes out. The group leader will have to take a screen shot of the whole group with names on after the final boss is killed.
How do we select groups:
First, I need people to volunteer to lead a group. The group leader will be assigned five followers.
Second, a committee will select the five members to be assigned to a group leader.
We will try to balance the groups and keep groups from running with multiple members of the same kin, or people who may often play together. The group should consist of six people who rarely play together, but there may be times where this is unavoidable based upon the amount of volunteers.
When will this start: To be determined
What instance will it be: To be determined
What is the prize: To be determined
Are you saying nope, you don't want to participate? Or, are you saying nope, you don't think that is the purpose. This is a very confusing statement.
Anyhow, if this is your attempt at being a troll, that's sad if it is.
Well said.
Anyway, I'll help you. Good luck

Although I respect and salute your efforts to organize server events, I have to say that doing competitive instance runs would not be my favorite idea. IMO, it will only attract the leet, over-competitive level 65's, and not appeal to that portion of the population that is just here to have fun.
I'm not an organizer, but one idea I have thought about is cross country horse races. It has the advantage of letting people participate individually, and since all 35+ horse speeds are the same, people could compete regardless of their level or equipment.
By cross country, I mean to out of the way places where the road is not necessarily the fastest route. People would have to navigate and determine whether it is faster to jump off that cliff and deal with the broken leg, or go around, Swim the river, or angle towards a bridge, etc. With a little planning, I think some great routes could be set up that would go through some interesting and little visited corners of middle-earth. Check points would have to be located at strategic points to eliminate any benefit from using stable horses.
In order to make it a level playing field, and fun for more people, I would recommend that it be done in lower level areas where Mobs will not be an issue. However, a high level run would be an option that would add the additional element of route planning to avoid getting shot off your horse.
Just an idea, but whatever you do, I salute you for trying to set up server events. We need more of that!
I like Wyelde's idea better, no offense. It opens up the competition to more players to have a race, without so many possibilities for complaints because "he had better gear." It also would be easier because there would be little to no limitations in size. Theoretically, you could have forty or fifty people racing across the countryside, but the only issue I would see with this idea would be lag/connection issues.
I thought about having a scavenger hunt for my kinship, when we actually had a lot of active members in the kinship. It would be something like this:
Have several different players who would volunteer to be the gift/item bearers, scattered across the map. Each volunteer would have an item (usually a simple item that particular person can craft) for each participant (that way, there are no forgeries). The volunteers would find a spot that is not easy to get to by hunter port, player map, or stable (example: one of the islands in Nen Harn). Each participant must find as many volunteers withing a certian amount of time (say 1 hour). The one with the highest amount of items wins the prize.
This can be adapted to different levels of players. If you have low-level participants (5-20), they might be in the Bree-lands, Shire, and Ered Luin, with maybe some challenges in Lone Lands and North Downs. High-level participants in Eregion, Angmar, Moria. This approach allows for customizing and makes players explore different areas they might not have explored or seen recently. Hints can be dropped to allow participants an idea where to search. Riddles would be a great way to drop the hints and still keep the essence of the game (another riddle game!?!)
Prizes can be guaged based on the level of the participants, from money to rare items. Of course, the prizes would have to be "donated" by other players.
A Group Instance Competition is one of those things that may sound good on paper, but I think there are too many variables for it to actually work out well in practice. I'm with you in the idea that some sort of server-wide event would be a good thing though. The biggest issue may be promoting it though. Gladden in general seems to be particularly forum adverse, and there are quite a few people that don't watch GLFF either. Spreading the word will take some major effort.
