    Blue screen of death

I just recently installed the game again (well, about two weeks ago), and its all been fine. Been going to Lothlorien, doing all the quests, going to Mirkwood to advance to 65, no problems, its been fun. Last night i decided to go make some weaponsmithing items in Thorin's Hall. I got over to the area where you can buy supplies from the many merchants, started buying some, and the game stuttered for a second and then i got the "blue screen of death", and your PC restarts. I didnt think much of it at first, but i logged in again, and bam, same thing. I logged in 5 times and it kept giving me the blue screen, i had to port out (Hunter), and things were fine again once i had left that zone.

So it appears that something in Thorin's Hall, is causing this to happen and im not sure what to do about it, other than reinstall the game? My drivers are up to date (graphics and sound), using 9.0c direct x, and im at a loss what would cause this to happen. Anyone have any ideas on whats going on? Thank you.

Unless other people can confirm this, my guess is you've got a corrupted file. Hopefully someone can chime in with a specific file name. But I'd guess the easiest way would be to delete the file and allow the Launcher to reinstall the file.

Anyone know if there's a specific file that can be deleted for Thorins?

I remember seeing a note in the startup screen about the latest Nvidia drivers having issues and not to install them. I don't know if the issue was resolved or if you even use Nvidia drivers, just thought I would let you know in case.

Yep im using nvidia drivers, the lastest ones. If the drivers are really the issue i would imagine i would be getting the blue screen of death regardless of where im at, but the issue has just been in Thorin's Hall :\

the bad driver in question was a 196.x, i forget the exact number. The driver was released in march, so if you updated since mid march you'll be running a newer version, probably 197.45. The issue with the bad driver was that the fan wouldn't respond correctly to increases in temp, causing the cards to burn out really fast.

If you used this driver at all, and you played any type of games for extended periods of time while that driver was in place, you'd have seen similar issues long before this.

BSOD's generally come from hardware conflicts.
What I suggest is that you go to the adminstrative options of your OS, and find the event viewer. Look for critical errors, it should have logged the BSOD there. Find the event code or error code given. Usually something like 0x00007. You can attempt to send this to microsoft thru the event viewer. But you can also google this code and find some information as to what the code refers to.

Since you aren't experiencing the BSOD except in Thorins Hall, I would assume that you've got a corruption in the Lotro files. If you used Turbine download manager, there was repair code. The regular launcher's repair just deals with video, although you can try this which will set your video settings to default, I'm not sure that it will help, but its worth a try.
If you used pando, I'm afraid I don't know much about it to say whether it has a file checker built in.

You can try opening a command prompt and check the system files. at the cmd prompt type in
    sfc /scannow
This will check the system files to find out if there is a corruption in the operating system.
Although I am hestitant to say do a reinstall of Lotro, unless you have some way of verfying the files are good, it may be your only recourse.
You might want to do a full system scan by your antivirus/spyware program to verify that your system hasn't been compromised. But again I'm going to point at something, within lotro that has been corrupted.

Did you attempt to use DatDefrag utility, install new software or drivers the day this started occurring? Were there windows updates that day?

I'm just blindly stabbing here, but hoping one of these options will help with the situation.

Wow, I am getting the same problem. 2 BSOD's in Thorin's Hall....game runs fine everywhere else. Googled it for the heck of it...surprised someone else had same problem. Anyone know of a fix for this? Obviously I am posting in October so I am using a much newer driver version.

    Weird.

both my hubby and I are getting them as well, but only in Thorin's hall. Avoiding that place like the plague except to sprint to the weaponsmiths guild, and even then it still gets us
