    Question about coloring chat words

I have a noob question which has me totally stumped. Here is the situation:

People frequently change words in chat to different colors. This can be helpful in certain situations -- particularly in the Moors, where you can emphasize focus fire and such.

The technique for doing this is, presumably, to right-click an item or drag it to the chat box, then drag with the cursor to highlight the text inside the brackets and change it to whatever you need. The problem for me is . . . I can't get that to work, no matter what I try.

When I try to highlight the words between the item brackets, it goes straight from nothing highlighted to the whole thing being highlighted, brackets and all. There is absolutely no way I have found that I can select just the words between the brackets.

Any hints here? Is there a setting i have turned off that needs to be on or vice-versa? Does it only work in macros? Do you have to hold your mouth in a certain position while twiddling your toes? What am I missing?

In case it makes a difference, my box is running Windows 7.

    Thanks,
    SL

Post Re: Question about coloring chat words

I'd been informed how to do this a few times in the past, and both times it was different, so it seems Turbine's been fiddling with fixxes to it. I think this time they were successful nipping them in the bud.

I have seen some folks who made targetting messages with all the purty colours, but now it's a huge mess of gobbledy ****.. a paragraph of code looking stuffs, instead of Kill >>> that guy<<<< Please!
So while they seem to be unmakeable anymore, there's a bunch of folks with really weird broken macros. I think some folks' macros survived fine. It's kind of odd watching them in Monsterplay.

YIKES! I gotta get offline, I just heard the snap of thunder...!

I didn't realize this was discouraged. It seems like it could be awfully useful for the reasons noted. No big deal, though.

    Thanks for the reply!

Funny thing, I didn't think it was either, however I had taken note of the changes that were put in every so often, that changed the way you could do or not do them.
So I "Assumed" that they were trying to disable the ability, but not particularly go around writing a new rule banning coloredness.
And even if they did eventually write a rule, "Don't make colored macros.", I know many a creepies on elendilmir (and other servers too, but just sayin' that's where I play/observe at) who'd be upset, kuz they had some of the most coloriest targetting macro's, it'd make Rainbow Bright jealous.
