Im a little confused on where exactly are the barghests I should hunt to get the rotted barghest paws for the lvl 45 quest.
I understand they can be found in either Barrow downs or Fornost...Ive killed enough in both areas-great barrows and fields of Fornost to know they were not the right kind or that I was hunting in the wrong place.
those barghest\haudh are inside the instances GB or Fornost, or wondering outside somewhere?
You need to go to either the Bree rep dungeon Haudh Iarchith (which is inside the northern part of the Barrow-downs) or inside the actual Fornost instance. From what I remember the ones in HI only drop from elite barghests. I don't know about the ones in Fornost because it's been too long since I've been there.

Both the ones inside Fornost and the Haud Icharith (sp) ones drop the paws. I spent a while roaming around farming the HI ones for the paws.
Yeah, I'd recommend Haudh Iarchith. It takes forever to get to the barghests in the Fornost instance and the Bree one is just easier to access (southern Barrow Downs)
Tnx for the good tips everyone.
I checked AH several times and never seen that for sale.
Totally forgot I can trade them at skirmish npc, I'll check If it's worth it marks wise
or I'll just try the instance.
Do you guys equip it often when joining runs as healers?
Would you prefer having wondrous foreshadowing or you run with both?

I trait it all the time, mainly because I'm too lazy to retrait and I personally don't feel that Steady Hands is required, and FtoW is seriously gimped imo. Anyways, for healing trait that, Martial Training, and Wondrous Foreshadowing.

That's what I had in mind, tnx again!
I recently started healing in GS and loving it(never took the time to seriously lvl my mini)

The Bree-rep dungeon, Haudh Iarchath, has been redone for Free To Play Launch, and is now populated with level-20 mobs. On a quick cruise through, I saw only one barghest, also a lvl-20. It appears that dungeon is no longer a source for Rotted Barghest Paws.
I'll spend some time killing barghests in Imlad Balchorth to see if they drop the paws. I've confirmed the IB barghests drop the Barbed Barghest Tails, but not yet the paws. Otherwise, the only other sources I can think of for the paws would be Fornost or Carn Dum... and I haven't yet tried them.
Gotta love it when a game company tries to fix something, only to break something else in the process.
UPDATE: Spent an hour prowling Imlad Balchorth; all I got was Barbed Barghest Tails.
None of the 50 or so level 47-48 barghests I killed today in Angmar dropped a rotted barghest paw. It looks to me like a Fornost group is now the only place to get them, unless you want to spend 900(!) skirmish marks to purchase them.
I've been hunting these for my captain. I've killed quite a few barghests in both Angmar and HI, as have my kinmates. I'm now 99% certain that they now drop only inside Fornost. I think that means they are now the only minor class item for any class that can't be obtained by soloing mobs at level. Blah!
As of Sept 27th, I have been to all the Barrow Downs little instances including the Bree Rep Dungeon. I have only found three (3) barghest in one area and they did not drop paws : ((
You have to go through the entire Inner Fornost area...defeating all four bosses to get to the area with the barghest that drop the paws. This is a long, long haul!!! so, bring your lunch and more. No one had the Fornost West Gate Key in the group, so it may be a faster route to the barghest if someone can access the West Gate.
I have a good friend and a son that both need the paws as well as some new toons coming up, so I hope this gets fixed soon.
Doing Inner Fornost for the paws, is, in my humble opinion as hard as trying to get the Slime from Helchram - only Inner Fornost is LONGER.
When ppl are saying they went to HI, did they go through all the dungeons, including the level 51 part in back of the last entrance? First mob I faced in that part of HI was a level 51 barghast. Since I was on a level 38 hunter I decided not to see what it dropped.

Thank god for this thread, I've been going crazy. I've killed Barghest all over the place: Angmar, Fornost (fields & as far inside as I could go which is not very), Barrow-downs (North & South, outside, just in case), that area in Evendim, just out of Fornost fields, going west towards Tinnundir... I've been in Haud Iarchth (sp) in as many of its little cubbies as I could get into (for some reason, I think it's been redone? it's not laid out exactly as I remember the entrance/exits are scattered differently and I know I'm missing part of it somehow) HOWEVER, that being said, I search HI hi and low, found the lvl 50 tough "Howling Barrow-Hounds" in the Tomb of Maenador (entrance in HI) and they drop a class item all right - the barghest spiked tail thing for wardens/champs >< Grrr.
Other than the entrance by the actual POI flag for HI, what other ones are there? I know I came out in a different spot in the Tomb (and the tomb was the only part I found higher level, sig barghests, not just the lvl 20 easy ones, which don't drop anything like class items of course).
I don't mind a bit of a difficult drop but this is ridiculous. I hope I'm just in the wrong spot. But with the barghests I did find dropping the wrong item, I am a bit concerned. Esp since the quest dialogue still says to go to HI.
Wingwoz (on hunters in LOTRO), "I prefer to think of them more like Elvis or James Dean. Terminally self indulgent but their presence in a party, nay, the very fact that they ever existed, makes the world a cooler place."
'Zairente hums, "Little rabbit Poo-kie / running through the Di-res / scooping up the Mon-archs / and BANGING 'em on the head."' The Antics and Ramblings of Family Nenaelin
When this is fixed I want my SM's refunded. Ingame supoort gave me absolutely no help whatsoever - The quest is working as intended bahhh
how can cs know its working as intended? Did they actually go to someone who could check the database and see if the item was set to drop on something? I mean just because something is still in the game doesn't mean its available for use. Although, someone told me a couple of days ago there is still a vendor that sells a cup of coarse flour.
And now that melee attack is automated whatever else you're doing,
don't diss the melee damage.
Parse it sometimes... iirc damage in the 200-400 range every swing at L55 last time I checked...

I went through the lvl 50+ area and nothing but tails through there. went through it at least 20 times. no paws

There is a sections in the bullroarer forum in the new preliminary patch notes about this issue. Barghests of a certain level in Angmar will drop the paws when the content goes live.
'Rotted Barghest paws now drop off all Barghests from 39 to 60 '
ding ding ding!
Yay! Should work like the leeches in eastern Malenhad, then, where they have a chance to drop one or the other kind of droplets. I would guess they will just randomly drop tails or paws, and that's fine.
Update: There are howling barghests that drop these paws in the Tomb of Maenadar, go to to the back of the tomb, and there is another lvl 45+ tomb that has a bunch of these. South Barrows, near the Great Barrow.

This must be the one that says I don't have the corresponding quest for.
I know this is an old thread -- but even with the update from a couple of patches ago -- where *IS* the best density of barghest that drop the paws?
Aside, a previous poster commented: "Yay! Should work like the leeches in eastern Malenhad, then, where they have a chance to drop one or the other kind of droplets. I would guess they will just randomly drop tails or paws, and that's fine."
The reality is that at least for the slugs (and for that matter wargs) it doesn't work this way: a level 47 and below slug will drop a bubbling; a level 48+ will drop a corroded. A level 47 and below warg will drop a hooked; a level 48+ a splintered.
Angmar they will drop paws. They changed the drop rates when it was pointed out to them that barrows no longer droped (wrong lvels) so any level approate bargest has a chace to drop. Angmar (above the worms) is the best I've found. Not that many but not that rare either. Works. Go to the dorf place then go north (they send you there anyway) theres a bit with wrights and bargests of the right levels. Note they don't allways drop.
