Tell The Community Team - Itemization and Loot - 4/23/10

    How it works:
From time to time we'll be asking you questions, and here in our thread, you tell us: What comes to mind; what you think; how you feel; etc, as it relates to the question(s) at hand.

    Ground Rules:
Because we want this to be a place where we can gather valuable feedback from our community we're going to be a little tougher on the rules enforcement here. Please read both the Ground Rules and the Forum Guidelines before you do anything else. These will be strictly enforced.

Why do we sometimes ask you to limit your answers?
Because what we’re looking for are the top issues or absolute best answers you can give. Anyone can come up with a top ten list of things they’d like to see. Filling out a list is easy, but coming up with the most important issues or the things that really matter takes a bit more thought. Those are the responses we’re looking for.

Reminder: This is not a discussion thread. It is a Q&A. We ask questions, you give your answers. Multiple posts, editorials, debates/opinions about someone Else's answer, will be ignored or deleted.

Yes. But, I'd personally be happiest if I never have the "best", there is always some chance something will drop etc that may improve things. It is nice to have things to lok forwards to.

Malledhrim armor set. As the top of the line crafted armor, it should be other than radiance in some way worth considering. Instead everyone uses radiance sets which are generally better as individual pieces AND have set bonuses. Maybe give set bonuses to crafted top of the line armor too? Make it better in SOME respect, if not absolutely better?

    1. No, a small stat increase on an item such as 2-3 might (especially raid drops) is not worth the time for the grind required.

    2. Champion DN set (Lady's Power). The set bonuses , aside from the required mitigations, combined with the overabundance of power and lack of crit/inc healing/might make the set the least favorable of the 3 current raid sets. Put emphasis on DPS output for champs on raid sets.

    Question 2:
No. I do not feel that the stat gains on items SINCE Moria have enhanced my character's abilities or performance in a satisfactory manner, with few exceptions. For the most part, this is due to armour sets being either a generally meh-inspiring sidegrade, OR a complete downgrade. Also, the scarcity of decent pocket items.

Question 3: I would take the Hunter's Far Arrow set. Remove EVERY single bit of might and replace it with some combination of fate, will, morale, and power. If it had at least as much bonus morale/power as the DN set, that would also make me happy. For the 5-piece bonus, I wouldn't mind the old -2s Swift Bow CD from the... Helegrod? set.

I wish there was an option for some of the time, as I think some items/time spent are right on or maybe too easy. Or at least a qualifier of "Except Radiance and LIs", as then that will probably lead to a yes.

Yes and no. As so many of the stats enhancements are used against a base value, I does see an enhancement to my performance. The enhancement often is not nearly as large as I expected

For crafted gear - I would like to see set bonuses added, stats only. So much of crafted armor seems to be pick and choose pieces from different sets, I think it would be beneficial to see set bonuses added to give crafted armor a little boost as well as giving each set a little more individuality.

Well, pretty much. Aside from the fact that it's pointless to build for Agility as a champ. It's still pretty much the MoM Morale/All for a lot of classes. It would be nice if there were other effective builds.

    Question 3
Excluding Legendary Items choose an item or gear set and explain the changes you would make worth the time/effort involved in obtaining them. Please select only one item or gear set and please be brief.

All Ettenmoors gear sets. Up the stats to something that would actually be used by a level capped player, and add in Shadow/Fire/Acid mitigation. Also have them give more morale than their PvE counterparts.

If they get too strong for PvE, make them Ettenmoors only gear.

Also, make them purchasable without Brilliant Spirit Stones. As of now they're practically impossible to get.

Not at all, alot of the more recent SoM equipment, is worse statwise than equipment we had back in moria. I'm still using the Vile Maw armor, over a full suit of DN gear, and i have no intention of switching out for the BG gear, which is worse.
    Question 3
Excluding Legendary Items choose an item or gear set and explain the changes you would make worth the time/effort involved in obtaining them. Please select only one item or gear set and please be brief.

For starters the BG set isn't even teal. Statwise it is worse in most categories with the exception of radiance, which is the only reason one has to even pursue the set. The only thing to make it worth acquiring is bumping up the stats so it is better than the lvl 60 raid sets that came before it..

    Question 2
Yes and sometimes to much. The variety of different stats with different stats is not there.

    Question 3
If I was to make changes to gear sets it would go something like this have like 10-20 different designs that you could mix and match then you have scholars make like a writ to attach that would magicallyenhance a piece of armor by say 20 agility. Now here is the kicker each piece has a maximum number of points that could be spent on that piece. This would give massive variety and people could customize their own armor to the stats they want.

I'd like to address the PvMP warden set. The stats should be more or less in line with PvE gear but with a with focus on agility , might and Vit at the expense of will and fate. As for bonuses, an incremental bonus to ranged offense, stealth detection, and stealth duration.

Sort of, but the inherent tie of gear to Radiance renders 90% of that itemization absolutely pointless. It hardly matters which item or set has the best stats or what specific build I want to achieve when I am required to wear whatever it takes to achieve 120 Radiance just to set foot in a raid, and that radiance is tied to items in a way that is completely beyond my control. The problem isn't that the gear choices aren't good, the problem is that the choices just don't matter.

I'm also not a fan of the new mitigation/avoidance calculations. Adding .05% evade chance or .7% partial parry chance doesn't excite me in the least, it's just too insignificant to be worth my time. Go back to the previous way of calculating where items gave 1%-5% chance -- that was worthwhile.

Remove radiance as a built-in stat of certain pieces of gear, and replace it with Scrolls of Radiance that could be applied to any piece of gear of our choosing. The Scrolls would BoA and would come from the same instances/barterers that the radiance gear comes from now, but could be applied to any armour of our choosing from any set or ad-hoc crafted gear. Once that is implemented, Turbine could return to what they used to do best - balance itemization so no items are "better" than any others, there were just various "options" each trading off something for something else depending on your preference. Then, crafted gear, rare drops, barter sets, & raid sets would all once again be relevant choices.

Re: Tell The Community Team - Itemization and Loot - 4/23/10

    Question 1
No I think that the stats on most of the items from moria to mirkwood are not worth getting cause most of the items only have 1-5 might/vit... so on so its not worth getting the new gear to me
    Question 2
The Dol Guldur champ set is not worth the time I put into it, it is much easier to acquire the vm set and get almost the same stats (if not better) and still be happy cause the vm is much easier than dg. So I would make the all the dg stats somewhat higher.

I wish stats on items increased with level rather than dropping down. This way we can all look forward to newer and better items. (this includes items able to be crafted)

I wish we could get scrolls to add stats to any item. I know this doesn't answer the question but it might help the problem.

No. Stats on items make no sense. How can a shoe give you might or a earring give you agility? Go back to the basics. Armor pieces should give mitigation. Weapons give damage, attack speed, reach, crit chances etc.

The only things that should increase or decerease might agility vitality willpower and fate are: Race, level, training and perhaps some special items (i.e. shoes that increase stealth or speed, hat that increases willpower, chest for vitality). Please revamp and have these items make more sense in accordance with the fantasy genre.

Malledhrim armour is a great disapointment. I would expect the next tier of armour to be better than the previous, but instead it has been relegated to cosmetic armour.

    Question 1
Please see the Poll at the top of this page.
Response: No. 75 medallions 1900 skirmish marks to increase a single legacy by a single tier? Current gear that's comparable to the very first that we got in MoM almost 18 months ago? Jewelry is the only area that has seen significant improvement over the last year, and mostly only from wider availability, not from actual stat improvements

    Question 2
Excluding Legendary items, do you feel the stat gains on items enhance your character’s performance and abilities in a satisfactory manner? If not, why? Please be as brief as possible.
For stat bonuses, yes. For rating bonuses, NO. We used to have items with 1-2% block, parry, evade, crit, resistances on them in SoA. Now we have 130 rating on the best items in the game, which is about .5% depending on diminishing returns. The rating caps certainly don't help. When you can only get 15% of any particular crit, defense, or avoidance, there's only so far you can grow. The constant nickle-and-dime increases in ratings are nothing but numbers. They're meaningless for real progression.

    Question 3
Excluding Legendary Items choose an item or gear set and explain the changes you would make worth the time/effort involved in obtaining them. Please select only one item or gear set and please be brief.
    http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?k...3AyZi1lZTJXMlE
The BG T3 gear is just not good enough. Set bonuses are mixed, some great, some silly. The only thing it has going for it universally is radiance. It should be at the minimum equivalent to Moria T1 set for every class. It's not. It's worse for some and better for some. BG is the hardest raid in the game yet, and the set rewards for it aren't even as good as the first MoM set? Not ideal.

    Question 2
Excluding Legendary items, do you feel the stat gains on items enhance your character’s performance and abilities in a satisfactory manner? If not, why? Please be as brief as possible.

No. These stat bonuses need more excitement. The armour we work towards is something we will have for quite a while and its sad that (for example) many people are still sporting Moria +10 rad even though we have leveled and new raids have come out. Even if they were OP to begin with, the stats need more benefits.

    Question 3

Why don't we have 3 different armour sets to boost whichever traitline we are in? For example with Captains a HoH armour would be nice, and then having a DPS (red) armour set would be nice to change into..

Re: Tell The Community Team - Itemization and Loot - 4/23/10

[I may not vote on this poll? I was only joking about cheating with another game... really! I'm loyal and steadfast and all that junk...]

    Question 1
Please see the Poll at the top of this page.
    Would if I could, but I can't...

Edit: Now that I can vote, I want to clarify that I said no because some of the items are not useful even though they require tremendous amounts of time to aquire. Main examples being: skirmish armour/items, PvP sets, and the mirkwood sets whose stats are actually worse than the level 60 gear in all ways except the radiance.

    Question 2
Excluding Legendary items, do you feel the stat gains on items enhance your character’s performance and abilities in a satisfactory manner? If not, why? Please be as brief as possible.
For the most part, the teal items for minstrel class are pretty well fleshed out for PvE. One stat that is seriously lacking for minstrels is icpr and icmr. It would be nice to have options to boost those stats to try other builds that would work best with our different trait lines. Also, our morale seems to be lacking unless we stack it up - most noticable in the Moors where there are a ton of grey bar skills used against us that prevent us from healing ourselves (which being a healer seems to be the reason our morale is lower.) Non-legendary weapons... made useless by LI system for this class. There are a few decent shield options for minstrels as well - though I feel forced to choose one with ICPR since there are so few other options (bracelet or shield only) for increasing this stat.

    Question 3
Excluding Legendary Items choose an item or gear set and explain the changes you would make worth the time/effort involved in obtaining them. Please select only one item or gear set and please be brief.
I choose the minstrel PvP armour. Remove the requirements for Tyrants Lashes and Brilliant Stones in barter and make the pieces open up through rank only. [The OP system fails for freeps since no one is willing to group up to go down to the Delving for a 1 in 24 chance of getting a brilliant stone.]

    This set should have a lot of morale and vitality in addition to base stats found on teal Moria set. Tactical crit rating and incoming/outgoing healing bonuses should be added. Mitigations for damage types that cannot be increased via virtues should be added to the set: Shadow, Fire & Acid. I'd even go as far as to recommend making the Moors set Medium armour instead of light, even though there may be some minis who would prefer to not have to slot the Medium Armour trait to wear it. Oh and don't forget to add that CJ immunity stat to our armour. k thanks! JK {edit: just realized I put more info than was asked for}

    EDIT for Sapience:

What browser are you using (name and version please)?
    IE8
    version: 8.0.6001.18702 128bit
I am on a LAN and possibly on a proxy server. I'll see if another connection/browser changes the results when I go to lunch in @ an hour

Do you have any kind of add blocker, pop-up blocker running?
IE popup blocker was on, will edit with results once its off.
Aha! Problem solved. It was the IE8 popup blocker that was preventing me from voting in the Poll. Thanks, Sapience!

Easiest example would be +15 and +25 rad gear. For many classes, there are more beneficial bonuses to stats from the Moria purple non-rad armour. In fact, just the other night I switched out some Moria purple armour on my RK to go into DN and noticed how much worse off my stats were with the +15 and +25 pieces I had equipped.

I think just in general, it seems counter intuitive to have a piece of armour that has a higher min level requirement and higher radiance value to have lower set bonuses and stat bonuses.

    Easiest example:

My rk's purple Moria gear with no radiance purchased for 4 Moria Medallions should not > rk level capped gear with +25 radiance purchased for 15/20/25 DG tokens

I think if the stat bonuses followed a linear progression with rad values, it might seem less counter intuitive to some people (especially me).

The only issue I really see is why stats are higher on some +rad level 60ish items then on +rad level 65

    Question 3
Excluding Legendary Items choose an item or gear set and explain the changes you would make worth the time/effort involved in obtaining them. Please select only one item or gear set and please be brief.

The whole grouping of +rad items need to be rebalanced and adjusted so that the higher level gear not only has more radiance but better stats. Having a lower set bonus grant various protections (protection to acid etc) should be enough to justify thier continued use in various circumstances.

yeah i think so. maybe needs a lil more of a buff tho. like its hard to tell the diff between 500 and 550 might on a champ unless u do a parse. and even then the gain in dps is negligible. same with most other classes stats cept things like guards and vit, pretty straightforward

the DN raid set for champs at least sucks. nothing about it are things champs really want. all of it, start over pls

    Question 2
Excluding Legendary items, do you feel the stat gains on items enhance your character’s performance and abilities in a satisfactory manner? If not, why? Please be as brief as possible.

-Not on the top end. Most gear builds seem to give you a very average stat point total, nothing that will really skew your stats one way or another while still being on par total wise. Minor differences in might/will/etc are not really felt.

    Question 3
Excluding Legendary Items choose an item or gear set and explain the changes you would make worth the time/effort involved in obtaining them. Please select only one item or gear set and please be brief.

-Ettenmoors gear sets. Consider the time/effort:
    1+ Month Renown Grinding
    Multiple small fellowship drops.
    Multiple raid drops.
    FOR ONE ITEM.

    Either
    A) drastically reduce requirements or;
    B) inflate the stat total to at least be on par with top in non-radiance equipment.

    Question 2
Excluding Legendary items, do you feel the stat gains on items enhance your character’s performance and abilities in a satisfactory manner? If not, why? Please be as brief as possible.

    No.

Just compare these 2 items, one I farmed up so long ago I don't even remember getting them, another one I see no reason in getting:

    http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Armou...e_Silent_Knife

    http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Armou..._Shadow-walker

Other then the radiance what do I get?

    +94 power
    - 21 Will
    + 1 might
    +1 fate
    +3 agility
    + 1 vitality
    - 42.6 morale regen.

What seperates these 2 items? 22 months? +3 agility in 22 months of development time?

Do you really need your players to point these things out to you?

    Question 3
Excluding Legendary Items choose an item or gear set and explain the changes you would make worth the time/effort involved in obtaining them. Please select only one item or gear set and please be brief.

    One of two things.

    1. Real stat boosts. +1 and +3 is outright stupid. We aren't level 5 any more.

    2. If you are going to insist on giving such minor boosts then at least add other benefits. In this case give something like the following to the shadow-walker leggings:

    - Movement speed increase
    - Melee haste
    - Interaction haste (interaction with objects like crafting nodes)
    - More resists
    - Immunities to specific effects
    - Boosts to specific class skills
    - Additional damage on attacks.

Seriously, anything. If you have a hit a limit on what the game can handle in the case of stats that's fine, just say so and find other (possibly new) stats you can add to the game.

I don't feel as though the stat increases for certain stats make much difference in my character's performance. In the past, I have been able to complete end game instances relatively easily, and just for fun, groups of my ex-kin would go back into these instances with collections of just yellow gear to see how far we could go, and we had no issues completing the content either. In addition, the lack of increased performance is extremely evident in the PvMP environment, where it really doesn't matter if you stack stats, or create a balanced build, the result is almost always predictable, due to the abundance of CC. Stats should include effects that reduce the amount of CC that can be used on someone.

    Question 3
Excluding Legendary Items choose an item or gear set and explain the changes you would make worth the time/effort involved in obtaining them. Please select only one item or gear set and please be brief.
End-game raid gear should be worth acquiring to make the raid itself easier, as well as prepare you for the newer content coming out. It should definitely retain similar stats than the previous available set, but have some non-subtle improvements. A player should be able to see the difference in the sets relatively easily. Raid gear requires more people to coordinate their time and efforts to acquire such gear, and yet many times the gear is equivalent, or sub-par, when compared to the previous end-game sets. For example, the group-based radiance gear introduced with MoM still outweighs the raid gear from DN and BG, on multiple characters. The only reason I wear the BG or DN gear is because radiance is a requirement for the end-game raids. Personally, I think the effects of set bonuses is a great idea, but I still believe it's a wasted idea if the set bonuses stay with gear that inevitably becomes old and unusable due to the requirements of new content. This is why I recommended a new gear set bonus change.
I guarantee your level 65 r0 greenie BA will contribute more to your Creep raid than my level 2 Minstrel will contribute to my Freep raid. After all, both took about 5 seconds to create.

I am a regular contributor to the forums, and have a 313 positive reputation rating, but for some reason I am not allowed to vote in the poll??? I see now on page two of the topic I was able to access and vote on the poll. Thank you.

    Question 2
Excluding Legendary items, do you feel the stat gains on items enhance your character’s performance and abilities in a satisfactory manner? If not, why? Please be as brief as possible.

The items are fine with the exception of the point listed in the next question.

In general I feel that items are fine (Including LI's!), I only wonder why all minstrel radiance sets are light armor. If we have a trait we can equip for medium armor use, why is there no radiance medium armor for minstrels? Our primary role end game is healing, but to do that healing we must make ourselves even more squishy. (it's not like we can compensate with higher vitality/morale bonuses from the light armor)

I would say so, though you need to pay more attention when creating items for world loot. A great axe with tactical crit on it is a joke.

NO. When we had the percentages on the items rather than these nebulous ratings, we had an easy way to determine if something was an upgrade or not. There is no UI that says if a rating is capped yet, or even how close to a nebulous cap we are. The percentages were clear, they should have remained the standard for gear comparisons, not these silly, silly ratings.

PvMP set gear should have important, EVEN OVERPOWERED, stats, but be PvMP only.

Should tie some of the gear, or even potions, to being extremely powerful... But only at certain RATINGS (NOT rank!)

No variety to the stats. Everyone ends up cookie cutter. I like the changes to jewelry where you can customize to a certain extent the stats that you enhance. I think armor needs more variety so we can enhance the stats that are key to OUR play style.

Stats may help one class specifically more than others, even if it's heavy. For example medium armour tends to be geared more to hunters and provides little or no help for a minstrel that has decided to go skald traiting.

No specific sets, but an idea might be pool points. Make a smith npc that you could take a drop and specify how many stat points to be assigned to each category. I.E say the item has 100 pool points, the player would visit the smith and assign 30 points into strength, 20 into vitality, 20 into fate and 30 into added armour rating.

It isn't allowing me to vote on this poll. If it did, I would have voted a resounding NO.

    Question 2
Excluding Legendary items, do you feel the stat gains on items enhance your character’s performance and abilities in a satisfactory manner? If not, why? Please be as brief as possible.

It almost does. I've gone through the game several times as a lower level with just drops from mobs or quest rewards. I actually prefer this, because then the game allows me to focus on enjoying the journey and is therefore not a gear-grind. To me, the whole point is having fun (being on a grind treadmill is not my definition of fun; a game that becomes gear-centric, is no longer fun, imo).

    Question 3

No one set comes to mind because the gear-sets that allow players to experience end-game content should be easier to obtain so as to allow these players to experience it in the first place. With the current system, that is not the case.

    1) NO - I do not. Things like LIs, Raid gear, PvP gear, Radiance in general...

    Question 2
Excluding Legendary items, do you feel the stat gains on items enhance your character’s performance and abilities in a satisfactory manner? If not, why? Please be as brief as possible.
    1) To me from Moria to Mirkwood the stat gain was 100% not satisfactory as there was virtually No gain.

    2) PvP gear is so underwelming it's not even funny. Stat wise, you need to spend so much time to be able to get them, but they are worthless.

I must confess that I don't have a sense of whether my stat increases from items, traits, etc have any effect on my performance and abilities. For example, I've been playing around with different Virtues, particularly focussing on defense (melee defense and ranged defense mainly) and I can't tell if I take less damage in a given fight or die slower. I've been using the one skirmish as a controlled environment (Defense of the Prancing Pony) and I've noticed virtually no difference when slotting Loyalty, Compassion, or Wisdom.

Similarly, aside from stats that raise my morale or power, I can't tell if I get a significant difference in boosting my Agility by 15 points. I certainly don't feel that buffs to in-combat regeneration (of either morale or power) have made any difference.

All in all, I'd say no, I don't feel that stat gains from items enhance my character's abilities and/or performance in a meaningful or satisfactory manner.

I agree with an earlier poster on the Malledhrim armor set. Make it and the Lothlorien armor set better in some respect such that they are comparable to radiance sets.

I've played lotro for 3 years.

Lotro has always been: a very small difference between the absolutely best gear and the second best gear.

    I like that.

But lately it has actually gone in reverse, where the lvl 65 gear is actually worse in some ways with lesser lvl 60 gear.

We need new and better level 65 gear!

The crafted Maladrim armor needs to be better.

The raiding Maladrim armor needs to be better.

PvMP armor has always been stupidly bad.

PLEASE FIX PVMP ARMOR TO ACTUALLY NOT BE COMPLETE GARBAGE!

    Question 2
Excluding Legendary items, do you feel the stat gains on items enhance your character’s performance and abilities in a satisfactory manner? If not, why? Please be as brief as possible.
Depends for pve eh and pvp not really. I like the more morale then when i started out at level 50 (end game) yet rift armor had stuff used to aide all instances . Rad armor does not aide at all. The new crafted gear also stinks, no money in tailoring really just get the rad gear. Also dont like looking like everyone else. I like being an individual , cookie cutter gear , no! Want to be able to think out side the box with my char on builds.

rift, give it purpose again (awesome instance and the gear on level was good)

The symbol drop for gorothul needs to be seen more. For the work involved, my 3rd age works fine for me.

No, because most higher level weapons and class gear is tossed in the trash due to the current system we are not allowed to discuss here. In some cases certain class slotted gear cannot even be obtained without resorting to the LI grind-o-rama.

Lvl 60 teal critted gear is still better than most lvl 65 gear obtained by questing or bartering. There needs to be something to shoot for at the lvl 65 range that will be comparable as a no-brainer upgrade.

    >the stats gains on some gear do not make sense for the class. Stat emphasis needs to be looked based on the updated mechanics of the game. See answer to 3

    >You have developed multi output crafting scrolls. Barter armor sets should allow some sort of optional configurations. This would allow folks to personalize the building of their character. This should include some opton to have different stat configurations or set bonuses.

Voted. Although the results so far are not surprising. Isn't this like asking: "Do you think your employer should pay you more?" Hardly anyone ever feels like they're getting what they deserve.

Radiance sets. I'd make it craftable so my alts can have some hope of attending raids.

No. Do they enhance etc? Yes. A L55 gear will give my char better stats than a comparable (e.g. same 'grade' of equip) L45 gear. Are the enhancement satisfactory? No. Because of the way itemization has been designed in this game, the vast majority of gears are worth nothing more than their vendor cost. Except (at best) every 5 levels or so, any gear in between (and there are gears of All levels) are trash.

Radiance. A L65 with L10 Virtues of 'appropriate' type, with 'best' non-radiance gear can't do a stupid L60 Raid because of that one lack.
