Thema: Level 40 (Beginner) Legendary Runestone questions

I've played a Warden and a Hunter to 65 so I am somewhat familiar with legendary items. My RK just hit 46 and I took some time to do the quest to get my first LI.

When I identified the stone I was extremely surprised as the legacies I got. The stone is absolutely perfect. It includes +% to heals, +% to HOTS, +% damage for Lightning and Fire, and +% for critical damage. All of them either tier 5 or tier 6. Its stunningly useful.

Its so perfect that I have to wonder if its generic... that everyone gets the same runestone from that quest.

Because these are percentage based, wouldnt these scale well? I know the item only goes to level 40, but that should be enough to get most of these legacies into very satisfying percentages. (I'm not sure if the Delving scrolls will work on these items, but if so that would be worthwhile... do those have a minimum level?)

I could be totally off base here. Again, my experiences with LI is mostly from Hunter (don't play the Warden enough to care much about his LI grind yet). For my Hunter to get this perfect a set of legacies I would have to ID and level about 500 items... probably more since I still havent quite got what I want. Do many runestones look this good when you ID them?

I don't recall the first items for my Hunter or Warden. I know the Hunter bow was rapidly replaced by the next items with higher DPS, and Warden's are always a little underwhelming but especially so at that level.

Sounds like a beauty and you can use it for at least 10 levels or so. In the long run, there are 2 problems with the starter runestone. First is that it only levels to 40. And the higher the level, the more legacy points you get. So, you won't have enough points to level all the legacies. Second, the Tactical Damage Rating caps really low (+3 or +4 on starter weapon). That's essentially +% damage vs. on level targets. So, you're adding +4% damage to all skills. A L60 3rd Age is capable of +13 Tact Dmg Rating, meaning at L60, you'll be missing out on 9% damage to all offensive skills.

Now, it's not a total loss. Your stone has Healing and HoT +%. Healing does not use Tactical Offence/Dmg Rating. So, even with low Tact Dmg Rating, the starter stone can be useful as a healing stone. When you level up and get a new stone for damage, keep this one and respec it (using Scroll of Renewal) to just rank the healing legacies.

The first item is always 4 legacies at tier 5 and 6. They cheat on the first one! Also, its hard to deal with a hybrid stone, you run out of points fast. Just 3 legacies and the dps tatical legacy took all my points on my lightning stone -- to get more, you have to not hit max ranks in stuff. having everything at rank 5 is an option I guess, but thats a decision you can make for yourself, I like to max out a few key things rather than many weak bonuses.

mine was fire and healing, kinda stinks for soloing, but like someone else mentioned i think ill hold onto it, all it needs is -healingattuned pwer cost and it will be a great healing stone.

The starter stone is always decent, but pales in comparison to the ones you'll get later. Once you find yourself wishing your stone had better results (in terms of damage, power return, power cost reduction, healing output, etc.) then it would be a good idea to upgrade to a better one.

I got my first one at level 47, and it worked fine till I got to level 55 or so. Then I swapped it out for a better one. I've gone through at least 7 main stones till I ended up with what I have now.

I am leveling an RK alt and currently lvl 41, where do I get the lvl 40 stone? I thought the first LI was lvl 50 or 55 from the gates of Moria...

You can do the gates of moria for the first one at 45, I dont think you can get it any lower. After this freebie the next one you can use is 51 from drops in eregion or moria's first goblin camps. When they said level 40, they meant the levels on the legendary item, not player level. When I said 45, I mean player level.

I called it "level 40" because that is the max level of the stone. I tried to clarify it that by mentioning its the beginner stone. As already stated, you can get the quest at level 45.
