    Re: Online System Requirements Tool

Although my new computer exceeds even the max requirements for running LOTRO, it still failed because my Intel chip set is not supported by the game. It seems to me that if you have a graphics card that exceeds the requirements needed and really only has the wrong name attached to it the game should run beautifully. Maybe its time to make the game playable with whatever card you have as long as that card has all other requirements. I wish that I had tried this first, before posting. At the charactor screen i went into options and saw that the games resolution wasn't the same as what my computer was running, so I changed it in game and lowered my graphics from very high to high and now it runs like a dream. So much so that i will for sure be changing from F2P to a paid subscription.

I got these results about the video card:

    FAILED
Minimum: 64 MB NVIDIA GeForce 3 or ATI Radeon 8500
You Have: Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator HD (Core i5)

Is it worth upgrading? I know nothing about video cards.

I'm guessing with that chipset you're on a laptop, if so, then you are incapable of actually upgrading your video card. What you have is actually a small chip that is partially driven by your CPU and RAM, not an actual video card.

    Re: Online System Requirements Tool

    For what it's worth...
Just to throw more confusion into the question ...
What hardware is necessary to play LOTRO?

As a pre-beta, Founder, I have been playing LOTRO, very nicely, on a 2007 iMac, 24 inch (diagonal) screen,
    Core 2 Duo [2.16GHz - 3 GB 667]
    NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT - 1920x1200 - 32-Bit Color
    VRAM (Total): 256 MB

I use CrossOver Games (a WINE based package) using a WinXP "bottle."
    I use the high-rez client.

Graphics settings are all "custom" -- and range from low to ultra. (All arrived at via fairly extensive experimentation.)

Clearly certain locations are problematic -- flickering flames and running waterfalls really impact frame rates and introduce significant lag. (As does certain "toon" combat animations, RK heals/stone for one.)
And we won't talk about Bree... that has no relationship to YOUR hardware, it's Turbine's problem... too successful.

    I also play on a 15 inch MacBook Pro -- 2008
    Core 2 Duo [2.5GHz - 4GB 667]
    NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT - 512MB VRAM

Graphics on the MacBook Pro are slightly better quality but overall performance is pretty much the same.

Frame rates run from 10s to 40s, again depending upon location.

However, in general I find the game immensely playable with fantastic graphics.

    Re: Online System Requirements Tool

I passed the minimum requirements on my laptop, but did not pass the recommended requirements. The holdup is "recommended 1 GB RAM"- I have 1 GB, but it showed up in the test as 900 something MB.

Needless to say, I lag A LOT when I am playing, even with all the settings on minimum and all the frills turned off. Apparently, 1 GB RAM just doesn't cut it in lotro. You can forget about me going to Rivendell, because I would never make it over the bridge.

However, one thing I find that has helped tremendously and allowed me to play on my laptop is to adjust 2 settings. First, move the player crowd control setting all the way down to the minimum. Second, move the system cache setting up toward the high end. This has worked for me and allowed me to be decently functional, even in places like Bree and the 21st Hall.

    Re: Online System Requirements Tool

Hi, with my pc i'm barely able to get over 30 fps and when I enter new zones my fps drops to 5-10 fps and my screen stops for a few seconds, i'd like to know what would be best to get my lotro playable. A fast usb key to put Lotro Flashboot, a new hard drive, a dual core CPU, mine is a athlon 64 Socket 939, I could put a X2 if anyone knows if it makes any difference or more memory. I bought a new video card and it makes a little difference but it's still lagging when I move around.
Here's my specs, Thanks for helping.

LOTRO is a memory intensive game, you've got 2GB, which brings me to this...

    OS
    Minimum: Windows XP or Vista
You Have: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition (build 7600), 32-bit
    PASS
Using the 32-bit version maxes you at a usable 2GB of RAM. To allow for more memory you'd have to upgrade (see: change) to the 64-bit version.

LOTRO works best with 4GB of RAM, especially if you intend on setting high level graphic quality.

    Free Disk Space
    Minimum: 11 GB
    You Have: 22.0 GB
    PASS
This is also something you'll want to keep an eye on. While right now you're doing fine, LOTRO takes far more than 11GB after you've made it up-to-date. A 22GB limit is not going to be a good thing, especially if you're sharing the drive with the OS install.

There is a possibility that it will work, but it won't work at a level that you'd probably find enjoyable.

Yes, but you will probably not find much enjoyment out of it...on low you'll probably be averaging 10-15fps in the non-populated areas and around 5fps in populated.

    RAM
    Minimum: 512 MB
    You Have: 987.5 MB
That is also very, VERY much on the low-end side. With the shared resources that you have to deal with on the video adapter, you're just not going to be liking any moment of playing.

The very fact that your system is using an Atom processor leads me to believe that you're using a budget laptop, bordering netbook.

It says that I am under the min, but the game has been working well for almost a year. Little more lag than others, but not too bad. Buying a new laptop this week. Here is the failed part.

What are the minimum requirements to run LOTRO on MAX(!!!!) grahpics with no slowdown (even when recording video, if possible)?

Generally speaking, by looking under the "Recommended" tab on the tool you can see what the 'upper' specifications are.

    CPU
Recommended: Pentium 4/Athlon XP or better
The stronger the CPU, the better you'll probably come out with, I have an Intel i7 920

    CPU Speed
    Recommended: 2.8 GHz or equivalent
My CPU's speed is actually lower by the test, but is done via multiple cores (giving me actually around 6GHz), so don't focus too much on CPU speed for modern gaming processors

    RAM
    Recommended: 1 GB
    I recommend at least 2GB, I have 6GB

    OS
    Recommended: Windows XP / Vista / 7

    Video Card
Recommended: 128 MB NVIDIA GeForce FX 6800 or ATI Radeon X850
    I personally use a GeForce GTS 250 1GB

In addition to what DarkCntry recommends, you'll probably want to use one or more SSDs so data is loaded and saved faster.

Thanks for the replies. I'll have to print out the page and bring it with to Best Buy. Maybe I'll get lucky and will just need to ask the guy for a laptop that plays LOTRO HD Download highest grapichs and he'll know what I'm talking about

How much are you looking to spend? I'm sure we could provide good suggestions if we knew your budget.

I have no idea, I'm not the one paying for it. It's going to have to last about 5 years for school at least, so I'm guessing the budget is rather large also including , estimate of what I've been told from friends, a decent amount of financial aid leftovers.

Just to give you guys some numbers to work with, $1500 to $2000. I'd prefer a suggestion from Best Buy because that's probably where we are going to buy one tomorrow.

    Thanks for the help!

EDIT: I'll be happy with almost any upgrade (super lowest graphics now with slowdown). I've seen how much graphic settings make a difference from StarCraft2. Had medium graphics, then got a desktop that can play highest. Huge difference. I'm going to Best Buy with the same guy that bought that desktop, so I should be good.

Right now it sucks really bad, especially in the Moors and raids. Lag in both and draw distance is horrible in the Moors. They need to be pretty close for me to see them.

If you want to run LOTRO with all the bells and whistles, I would recommend this:

    Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM processor
Features a 6MB L3 cache and 2.0GHz processor speed with Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz.
    Intel® Core™ i7 processor

    8GB DDR3 memory

    17.3" LED-backlit high-definition widescreen display

    1TB hard drive capacity (500GB x 2; 7200 rpm)

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M graphics

Thanks, I appreciate the help. Like to know what I'm looking for before going and asking a bunch of annoying questions for the Best Buy employee to answer (although my experience with asking annoying questions at Best Buy have been good so far).

When we got to Best Buy, the one with all the bells and whistles stuck out from the others. It's huge! So I ended up going with this I think (Took them 3 hours to find a store with 1. Need to pick it up when they get it 3-7 days) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Lenovo+-...&skuId=2731265

Slow hard drive. This will cause noticeable lag when the game needs to access the data files.

The computer PenrodBarker linked to is a true gaming laptop and would've been a better purchase.

Yes, sadly the Intel HD 3000 is better than previous Intel graphics, but still only musters performance equal to AMD and NVIDIA's entry level graphics:

That sucks little, but I guess I'll be happy with low graphics. I think it will be an improvement over my current graphics card which is

Intel website scan said I have this one Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset Family

Can You Run It? website said I have this one Intel(R) GMA 950

No slowdown in raid dailies, haven't risked full on this laptop yet. Moors doesn't have slowdown if the battle is under 20 (which it usually is on my server).

950 to 3,000 sounds big to me (if the numbers mean anyhting), so hopefully there won't be any slowdown in bigger areas (or at least not to the point where I cant do anything).

I call shenanigans in this "Can You Run It" website. Both my new and old laptop says it doesn't meet minimum requirements for Lotro.

I can run Ultra High settings with 0 slowdown on the new laptop that everybody says sucks (on other sites as well, not just this one) even in crowded areas (my server is now the most played, so it's safe to say it's super crowded areas). I usually switch to Very High settings for combat because that's the "optimal" settings, but I'm going to try Ultra High later.

The site should be used only as a reference, as with how technology goes, each day brings something new.

Even if the site shows you incapable of running it, make sure you check the output from the scan...sometimes it shows something that doesn't match what the requirements shows. For example, as I said before there are times where a CPU can be far slower than what is recommended but due to newer technology it can run better/faster. This would still result in a 'fail' on that particular section despite the fact that it could perform better.

As an aside, mobile GPUs are competent enough to run games, however shared on-chip graphics are generally not going to be competent enough to do so efficiently enough to be enjoyable. For this, almost all of Intel's offerings are going to be sub-par simply because of how these devices work (they share the same memory as the entire computer).

That is a CPU bottleneck, Lotro Raids consume lots of CPU, it is not a graphic card issue. Had a dual core and could not run Raids at more than 10fps. 30-60fps in 6man fellowship.

Now with a good CPU (system requirements tool says: Recommended: 2.8 GHz, You Have: 3.2 GHz Performance Rated at: 36.64 GHz), even having steadly 60.1fps (vertical sync on), in raids it lowers and I get 25-60fps in heavy battle. Also, high loaded Galtrev gives 30-60fps.

    FYI:

Intel HD Graphics is an integrated chipset...these are almost always sub-par for anything other than basic functionality. You 'failed' not because of a name, but because of the hardware not meeting expected values, even if you have the right 'specifications'.
