There is a pretty nifty online testing tool that will show you if your machine is "up to snuff" for LOTRO. Follow these easy steps:

1. Visit System Requirements Lab online
2. From the drop-down menu select "The Lord of the Rings Online - PC"
3. Click "Can you run it?"
4. Accept the signed ActiveX control (Internet Explorer and Firefox only at this time)
5. Let the test run and enjoy the results!
6. Optional: Come here and brag about your results!

There are two tabs, one for "Minimum" and "Recommended" based on the minimum and recommended hardware requirements suggested by Turbine.

Try the recommended, and it say everything but my video card passed:

How much an improvement will a 7800 be over a 7600? Mine was factory overclocked, its from BFG. I ran the stress test and closed beta on ultra high settings except for when they were killing us off at the end.

Not much. Found some benchmarks comparing the 7600 and 7800 here.

I passed, I got the maximum according to that bar graph at the very top of the results. Everything was full to the right except my OS, which is Windows XP Pro 32-bit.

I passed the minimum requirements, but not the recommended, because of my video card. I have a Radeon X1600 Series (Radeon X1600 Series AGP (0x71C2))

Is a Geforce really that much better? I thought the graphics looked great, and I had no problems in Beta other then the client crashing every time I went to Bree.

I have 960 megs of ram, will the game work with that?

Weird, must be something new in 2.0. Active X and firefox didn't use to mix.

I ran beta2 with 768mb on Vista, so yeah, your 960 should be fine, though you'll get lots of client-side lag when in populated areas, like Bree. I also have a 256mb nVidia, uhm, 6600 I think, so that helps, too.

Honestly, I'm watching the UPS tracking page right now. My 2 gigs of ram and 1gb readyboost drive are Out For Delivery. Just in time for tomorrow's big event!

For those of you who keep getting failed/minimum on their video card (which all the ones I saw posted shouldn't have any issues) I will provide the following links for the most up-to date drivers for increase performance (most of the time). Granted a 1650XT won't compare to a 7900 GT but it might help.

I highly highly highly highly recommend trying out the tweak guides, it was crazy how much it improved my old 6800 GT AGP 8X 256mb card. I went from on Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter everything on low, to almost every setting put on the highest it could go. Anyways hope that helps

I guess I will not be playing LOTRO. My computer can't hack it and I don't want to shell out $400-500 for upgrades. Oh well, back to Scions of Fate, lol.

What are your specs? Perhaps we can advise you on cheaper upgrades, just to get you ingame.

ermmm ok . well according to this tool it says my computer fails .but I have been playing since closed beta in august ???? are you telling me that when the game goes live I will no longer beable to play and hence all this has been wasted time for me ????

Dang that site says my pc fails which it does, hopefully once I buy a 1gb stick of ram it will run better. Can barely move most the time now except in the first instance where it ran fine. Confused how that site says I fail at being able to play WoW too but can play it fine lol.

I got the Nividia 7300 LE is the 7800 GT that much better? Everything else passes on it but not the 7800 part. and any help on how I got booted, and how, and why I can't reconnect, since I can't seem to find the place to post it.?

I'm almost off the chart, I have a NVIDIA 8800 GTS. I'm not surprised by the ranking, I've been playing LOTRO almost at full power and its run really well much better than Vanguard:Saga of Heroes does and its already a released game.

Hi, I'd rather not upgrade platforms right now. I'll do that this summer when the AMD 4 cores come. For right now I pass minimum but under RECOMMENDED I only fail on the 2gb. What's funny is that the client selects 1024x768 with no antialiasing. I boosted to 1924x1600 with 2x antialiasing and noticed some grinding on the HD when moving between places. Will 2GB be sufficient to run at that rez for now?

Heh, I pass everything on recommended, but I still have random black screen reboots. Fun. Hopefully they will resolve this issue before the world tour ends.

No one answered, but I now know that 2GB makes a tremendous difference. That's all I changed and the game runs and loads much more quickly.

What would be a good not very expensive graphics card for a notebook computer

Well... my laptop fails, so I guess I will not be immersing myself in my favorite fantasy realm. Back to the book for me I guess.

Edit: It also says fail when I run it for FFXI, but FFXI runs very well on my laptop.

Any advice?

I used this tool and found that while I am well over the minimum requirements, I am just a hair below the recommended requirements, which probably explains why my char ran slowly and choppily in game. I did find that there was an updated driver for my video card (128 MB ATI Radeon 9700) and, once I downloaded and installed the driver update, my game performance did indeed improve quite a bit. I still experience slow/choppy play when in a population center (due to only having 512 MB Ram, no doubt), but it is nowhere near as it was before installing the new driver.

I bought this machine 5 years ago and it was a top-of-the-line gaming machine then, so part of me is semi-amazed I am able to play this game at all, given the age and specs of my machine. My RL work is going to require me to replace this current machine in the next couple of months, as I need to upgrade software that my current hardware won't support (or upgrade to), so the new driver is a temporary fix for bigger problems, but even so, it buys me a couple of months...and allows me to play LOTRO with a much lower level of frustration.

So, I recommend folks having trouble with the game to use the tool and find out what is what. Updating drivers is a pain, it's true (it took me almost an hour to update my video driver last night) but it's way cheaper than the alternatives.

This site's standard for "minimum" is a bit high, if you fail the minimum you might still be able to play this game. I have a 1.83 GHz dual-core processor, 1 gig of ram, and an Intel GMA 950 integrated video card and this game plays fine. You will have to set everything to minimum if you do not have a dedicated video card or just a really bad one. If you failed the test, I highly recommend that you try playing on bare minimum settings and see how it goes. This game (like WoW) is very forgiving to sub-par systems if you are willing to sacrifice eye-candy.

I passed, but I still can't play the game. After I choose a server I get Searching for Logon server then it lists # of 20 attempts and once it hits 20 I get the message Connection failed: Client timed out the connection. then I get a button Quit. Then I get logged out and have to start all over again.
So I don't know why I keep getting kicked out if I pass the system requirements. I meet all the reccommended requirments except my processer is 2.4 gig instead of 2.8.
I bought this game two days ago and I haven't been able to play once.
I don't have any trouble playing any of my other games like WOW and Guild Wars so I don't understand why I can't play the game. I've already tried the things about the Firewalls and Routers but still nothing.

If you do go for a new video card, I would go for the 7900gt or better. The 7900 series cards are more energy efficient and run cooler than the 7800's do. Plus, you can probably get one cheaper. That line is cheaper to produce now. I believe nVidia is phasing out the 7800 series.

With my current system, see sig, i pass but i don't reach recommended... my computer result bar is 90% in between minimum and recommended, so i'm not far lol. Guess i could get a better video card to get to recommended.

The tool is no longer using ActiveX, at least not from my browser. They wisely switched from ActiveX to Java for their testing.
