Sleepwalker:
Legolas
From The Two Towers (when the three friends were pursuing the orc band across the fields of Rohan)
Only Legolas still stepped as lightly as ever, his feet hardly seeming to press the grass. leaving no footprints as he passed; but in the waybread of the Elves he found all the sustenance that he needed, and he could sleep, if sleep it could be called by Men, resting his mind in the strange paths of elvish dreams, even as he walked open-eyed in the light of this world.

I'm afraid this one may be wicked hard due to obscurity, but I can't come up with anything else:
Rumble

Re: One-word Tolkien Trivia
I really hope I'm wrong on this one, because if it's right then these threads are starting to become the Vilnas and Boraxxe Tolkien Trivia threads.
Bilbo's stomach pops into my head. Not sure why and I don't have the text handy just now.

Re: One-word Tolkien Trivia
Nope, not Bilbo's stomach. I'm not sure it would be fair to pick something very mundane and non-LOTR specific like a stomach rumbling as the answer for our trivia questions. My riddle points directly to a person's name, but that person is as trivial a character as it is possible to be.

Re: One-word Tolkien Trivia
Had to rely to Google on an obscure name like that. So i'm going to guess that Rumble is referring to the working class Hobbits of Hobbiton.

Re: One-word Tolkien Trivia
I feel like there could be a correlation between rumble and roar, meaning Bullroarer... He's not exactly trivial though, despite his only existing in a single line of The Hobbit.
Edit: Nevermind. I know who you're talking about now. I was looking down the wrong lineage...

Re: One-word Tolkien Trivia
The clue points directly to a particular individual who is indeed named in the body of the text (as compared to the appendices), although I believe only once.

Re: One-word Tolkien Trivia
If it helps, the person is in fact a hobbit, and the reference takes place in one of the chapters that deals with events in the Shire.

Yes indeed. It made me think of LOTRO's own Widow Froghorn when I noticed that in the text for the first time recently.
To the group, the reference to Widow Rumble appears in RotK when Frodo is inviting Sam to move into Bag End. He reassures Sam that the Gaffer will be ok because he will be very well looked after by Widow Rumble.

Wrong definition of Lisle, sadly!
(At least based on what I found.)

Must be referring to Holly Lisle.
Unfortunately, I am not familiar with her work.
Maybe this will help someone else (that is, if it's on the right track).

Could be a reference to the Cotton family. Rosie was who Sam was interested in.
Maybe he was "Cotton-less" when he was traveling with the fellowship.

Ah, but I do believe his waistcoat was torn. It is possible that they still have "threads" attached to them.

This technically qualifies, though what I'm looking for is not made of thread either. And it's much larger.
Vilnas gets next riddle, but I'm holding onto the riddle mantle until the actual answer is discovered!
(I have a hint that should blow this wide open, but I'm withholding that for about ten more wrong answers.)

About Elven rope:

No, but when it came down into Sam's hands he was concerned that it must have broken (he was sure he had tied it securely) but when he examined the end it was not frayed at all. That is one of the characteristics of lisle fabric: it is smooth and completed without frays.
Just another stab in the dark.

Since I don't have anything in mind, I will defer until Sylux's riddle is guessed or I come up with something, whichever comes first.

Another one that, while technically applicable, is not the answer I'm looking for.
