I see what you mean - the movie did show the Samwise Silhouette to very good effect.
Okay, I'm still getting used to this and still not sure how obscure I can (or should try to) be. Or how easy my clues may be. Tough to gauge this crowd! So we'll try this one out...

Good answer, but not the one I'm looking for. My clue is vague enough that I see there could be many possible answers, so I think the guidelines are that I can hand over the riddle stick to answers that fit. So you have the stick.
But I'll give a clue as well. It deserved an entry in the Red Book.
This may also be too obvious, but the Battle of Bywater in 1419 Shire-Reckoning?
In the battle of Bywater, 19 hobbits died. The fallen hobbits were laid together in a grave on the hill-side, where later a great stone was set up with a garden about it. The Battle of Bywater, 1419, the last battle fought in the Shire. in consequence, though it happily cost very few lives, it has a chapter to itself in the Red Book, and the names of all those who took part were made into a Roll, and learned by heart by Shire-historians.
Nineteen, was the riddle, in honour of the 19 hobbits who died. "For the Shire!"
Well done Iorviel.

Galadriels (gold hair, sun) position of being number one elven hottie being eclipsed by Arwen (pale and dark, moon).
lol nice answer, but still not the answer to my riddle. But even if I was speaking of the group of beings named Galadriels, or the position of the number one Elven Hottie, I'd exclude Arwen from my hint word.

To the guessing group, is there a group of beings whose name relates to either of the words "umbra" or "corona" (either by translation or incorporating the word)?

As a variation on the word, how about the Corsairs of Umbar?
Sorry, I forgot about this thread for a while
Yes, Curandhras got it, the answer is the Balrogs. They were fire (the Sun) and shadow (the moon blotting most of the Sun)
Another way how an Eclipse is related to the Balrogs is how they were once good (the Sun) but seduced by Melkor (the Eclipse).

Yay. I wish mine was that deep a clue, but here we go:
