    There it is!
Yes, he set up a charade in their rooms with the help of Nob....pillows stuffed under the blankets and stuff....

'Well Masters,' said Nob, 'I've ruffled up the clothes and put in a bolster down the middle of each bed. And I made a nice imitation of your head with a brown woollen mat, Mr. Bag - Underhill, sir,' he added with a grin.

No hits so far on "Fiery." Perhaps we should institute categories: Person, Place, Thing, etc. This one would be Person.

That would have been my first guess after the additional clue.

    Instead I'll go with Aegnor.

Feanor it is! The name means "spirit of fire." The fire of his spirit burned so fiercely that when he died, his body was burnt to ash. Now that's "fiery."

Actually his clue was "Thousand", which could mean any number of thousand, maybe even five or ten thousand for all I know. I took it to mean one thousand, but the limitation in this thread to "one-word" trivia makes it hard for the questioner to be that specific.
