    Jewelry quest not working post-patch

I'm a new player, so I apologize if the answer to this is simple.

I created a new jeweler right before the patch, but I didn't have a chance to do any of the "bring me a glittering copper ring" or similar quests before the patch took effect. So, I dutifully bought the glittering copper ring recipe (which I had before, but which disappeared post-patch) and made myself a couple. They are sitting in my inventory, not bound, just waiting for a turn-in. One of the NPC's that wants a ring refuses to acknowledge that this new glittering copper ring is the one she wants. I dropped the quest and got it again. Still nothing.

After a brief discussion on /OOC, I found out that others were having this problem, but they got it fixed through a ticket submission. I tried submitting a ticket, but got a response that they couldn't fix it and I should submit a bug report. However, as in most MMO's, I assume that bug reports are not typically answered in the same way as a support ticket. Now I have never seen an MMO (played 10+) where a GM couldn't manually update a quest that is broken. Is that generally the case here, or did I just catch a GM in a bad mood? If this type of terrible customer service is standard, I may reconsider playing, although I've enjoyed it thus far.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

From experience, only "Fully Documented" and acknowledged bugs can be advanced manually by LOTRO "GMs" - and not always. Otherwise, they tend to know less than players about the game.

I got the same thing and the GM also told me to submit a bug report. In my case I bought the recipe before the patch. I had made two glittering copper rings and I was wearing them. I had just got the quest to go journeyman and completed it. When I got back to Bree I stopped at the novice jeweler and bought all the new recipes and scribed them. This was a mistake. The glittering copper ring had its stats changed in game from +4 vit to +10 max power.

The game quests will only advance when you have the old glittering copper ring and you cannot be wearing it. I confirmed this by taking one of the old rings I was wearing off. Now that I have explained exactly what it wrong lets all sit back and see how long it takes turbine to fix it

PS. Turbine the stats on the old glittering copper ring were better than the new one!

I know that's why the quest won't work, I'm just wondering if anyone at Turbine is inclined to fix it. I'm also disgusted by their "customer support." I have never played an MMO where a GM couldn't manually update a quest that was obviously broken. Even the Vanguard GM's could manage that, although maybe that was because there were so many obviously broken quests that they had a lot of experience with it...

They can, but it is their policy not to. If a quest is broken and a workaround is not provided, you have to wait until it is fixed to complete it.

As to this specific issue, this is what happens when you completely revamp crafting every other update. It's getting a bit tiresome for even the players to keep up with what it takes to craft anything these days. I can't imagine what it must be like for the developers to keep track of all the various systems intertwined with crafting every time it changes like this.

I'm stuck at Expert and am not finding any quests. I suppose I'm in the same boat?

I think you need to do the Superior workbench questline. (I'm suprised that the jeweller npcs don't mention it to you via a quest ring.) Head to Thornley's Worksite (north?) of Bree on the way to Trestlebridge where the rest of the quest takes place. Sorry, I forget the npc's name... Melifecent or somegal's name. Should be a gold ring there.

Awesome. I would have been stuck for a bit cause I figured the NPCs would shout at me to go over there.

    Thanks man.

I had a Kinmate stuck on the Wedding Ring quests yesterday. He put in a bug report and within 20 min a GM was in touch with him. Correct quest items were mailed and he was able to complete the quest!

+1 to Turbine for helping my Kinmate, but would still be nice to fix the quest.

The quest has been fixed in the patch that is on the test server - http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=325365
We should see it soon I guess?

I too /bug reported it but didn't hear anything from a GM. I guess they had already fixed it and were waiting for the patch to go live.

You don't get responses from /bugs. You get them from filing tickets. However, they can only do anything for you in response to a ticket if there is already a known bug filed on the issue.

Hhmm. Maybe my kinnie filed a ticket in that case. Either way the GM helped him out, and now it sounds like this is getting fixed. Which is win.

Talk to Maid Mottershead (a novice jeweler) in Trestlebridge. I was having the same problem but this post got it sorted for now currently in the middle of the quest.

This is correct. The crafting advancement process has been changed effective Monday, March 21, 2011. You are going to have to learn the new process.
