"for within that city's [Bree] walls there reside both Free People fighting for good and also a dark element of corrupted Men fighting against the light"
Is it just me, or does that mean that we will actually see something like that now? I dont recall anything in the last beta as far as corrupted men.
Though I really wish they'd update the designators as being human, because seing a level 21 female person running around with MAN stamped on her portrait is weird....

I believe they're including NPC's in that definition. The reference of corruption would be directed toward the Brigands.
I think it looks kinda funny if I want to make a skinny male human because their head doesn't really scale to the body. Looks a bit odd to have this strong-jawed Conan head on a gangly body. :P It would be nice if you could adjust the facial build more.

It's actually improveda great deal. You really should have seen us before...
I hope they will include Dunedain as a playable race in future expansions
Tolkien cleary defines the different racial divisions of Men, Elves, Dwarves and Hobbits. The devs have gotten the Hobbits correct (Harfoots, Stoors, and Fallohides), but why then have they ignored the divisions of Men and Elves? Men from many of the starting locations COULD be Dunedain (men from Gondor for example, those from Rohan wouldn't), but there is no clarification. There is no distinction between Noldar, Sindar, Silvan elves. This seems to be a point of emphasis in Tolkien's lore, but not in the game.
Has anyone noticed how ungainly and slow the walk is for the human? I watch some of the other NPCs walk and they have much smoother animations. I think the walk could use about a 25% speed boost and some tweaking to rub out the ungainly motion.
I do like the rendering and backstory provided on each of the characters though. Large kudos to the storyfolks for doing your homework and smoothing over sticky bits.
Do something with Man facial hair please! Facial hair for men look awful. It's like a plastic glob around the mouth and looks very different than the hair on the head. Also more facial hair options would be better, maybe a bushier beard that doesn't go down to your knees.
i currently play a human male, and for the most part been very satisfied, with the exception of the animation seems dull and slow, and the jump animation also seems very feminine. just whatever you do please no flipping night elves
Im just getting started with the Open Beta today and must say as a huge LOTR Fan I've been looking forward to this for quite some time. I'm still not quite sure what class I'm going to play as, but I've always liked Melee Combat in RPGs and am thinking either Captain or Guardian as my Brother is playing as a champion. We are both going to play Male Rohan chars. Could you all give me some insights into advantages and disadvantages of the classes? I wondered for instance do captains have any good dmg attacks? How bout Guardians? I would like to be able to Support others because Ive always been a strong player and RPer in Paladin type classes because they fit my helpful and heroic personality. I just would like to maybe do some good damage too. I know thats probably asking alot considering usually MMOs seperate their tanks and damage dealers entirely, but I would still like some of you experienced players here to tell me what you think so far.
On a final note My Bro and I were wondering if there will be anything added in the way of Horses for Rohan players since that was what they are most known for in the Trilogy. It would be cool to see that translate into the game in the way of mounts or combat ablities even. What do you all think??
Before I go I've got something to say.
It's better to burn-out than to fade away!!!
I've heard of corrupt men in Angmar... but I've never been there personally... not YET...
This is based on an attempt to make Bree more like Washington DC
I bring word from Lord Elrond of Rivendell. An Alliance once existed between Elves and Men. Long ago we fought and died together. We come to honor that allegiance.

To spoil Aesir's tongue in cheek response....
Horses are available to players once they reach lvl 35, complete the appropriate quest and have a goodly amount of cash available (multiple gold coins and a couple hundred silver). At this time horses cannot be used in combat.
Not really sure where to put this, so i'll put it in this thread.
In the very first town that humans enter - Archet - all the trainers are bunched together. During peak playing times, this becomes a big problem. There are people all over the place making it very hard to find and access your trainer. Also, with that many people so close, the game starts to lag.
This is kind of nitpicky, but as a writer, I couldn't help but notice that some of the phrasing in the "Man" class description repeats itself word-for-word.
It starts out with "the race of Men is defined by their relatively short life span," which is a bit redundant since earlier in the sentence it has already stated that they're short-lived. In the next paragraph, it says (again!) that they have a "driving will borne out of a relatively short life span."

That's true, but it does make it a lot easier to find them, since they're not all spread out. I had enough trouble finding things as it was when I first started!
I think the middle of the town near Amdir and the Hobbits is always worse lag-wise anyway.
I wanted to mention an issue that has been buggen me for awhile with the ancient armor graphics on men. Whether it be polished, burnished, mirrored, or just normal all the graphics I beleive are not correct. It appears that these peices should look the same as the elven soldiers armor. I have been noticing that on dwarfs and elfs it does infact look this way, but on men it does not. Maybe im wrong and this is how it should look, but if im right i would love to see this fixed im one of those peeps that has to have the whole package, you know form and function.
The rep trait bonuses for Men are useless. Dwarves get loyalty, elves get wisdom, how about something useful for men, like one for determination or valor?

All I want is better beards for the men. I thought with book 12 it would have fixed this but nooo.... Just puffy beard and REALLY LONG Gandalf beard. Why not 5 o'clock shadow beard or something in between really long and poofy. I'm not saying that they have to be braided dwarf beards but something cooler would be good.

I would agree with this. Perhaps beards could be dynamic? Ability to shave and "let them grow". That'd be very cool!
I am curious if there was any consideration of including the Beornings in the game, as they are a race of men as well? They are a subset of the race of men, and Beorn is not the only one. IIRC Tolkien wrote about how they could turn into bears, and some could turn into boars. Also, what of the Pugel men? There seems to be little mention of them.

I thought about Beornings as well, but Tolkien never mentions that they joined the War of the Ring. Their last known direct involvement in the outside world was the Battle of 5 Armies. As for the Pukel men, these were just carved likenesses of Men thought to be Wosses or Druedain. I don't think it wouldn't make sense to have a bunch of them running around all over Eregion or beyond.
I could see the Beornings and maybe the Druedain as NPCs in some later expansion but I don't think it would make any canonical sense to have them as playable characters.
Although speaking of making canonical sense, where do the Jorthkyn fit in exactly? Considering these characters, it seems Turbine has some creative freedom when it comes to introducing new races or making other little-known races more prevalent. So who knows, maybe we'll get to play as huorns or Beornings or maybe even the dead Oathbreakers too.
Regarding Beornings: It is generally believed that skin-changing was not widespread among the people. Beorn himself certainly could, and there was a rumor his son could (I don't believe that was ever cleared up explicitly).
However, there is a long RPG (tabletop) tradition of allowing the Beornings as a people to have the skin-changer ability, so Turbine would not be alone in making that call should they decide to.
My guess is that we won't have them as a playable race in any event. NPCs, perhaps.
Also, I cannot recall any skin-changing into boars.

While I agree that Skin-changers were definately rare, I highly doubt that Beornings were the only Skin-changers in Middle-earth, Max.
I would be willing to believe there were enough of them to allow session play in the Ettenmoors, at least.
