Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
How it works:
From time to time we'll be asking you questions, and here in our thread, you tell us: What comes to mind; what you think; how you feel; etc, as it relates to the question(s) at hand.
Ground Rules:
Because we want this to be a place where we can gather valuable feedback from our community we're going to be a little tougher on the rules enforcement here. Please read both the Ground Rules and the Forum Guidelines posts before you do anything else. These will be strictly enforced.
Question 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
Question 3:
We’d like to know what you would ask. If you could pick the questions for the Tell the Community Team, what would you ask? Remember, tell the community team questions are questions we ask the community to gather feedback about the game. Not questions you’d ask the Dev Team.Rick Heaton, Community Manager, The Lord of the Rings Online.

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Question 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
A:
1. Have a wallet for all those skirmish marks. There's just too many of them and they take alot of bag space.
2. More cosmetic rewards, like adding cosmetic equivalents to the old Rift/Helegrod/Annuminas sets.
3. Make bosses from 3/6/12 man skirmishes drop some kind of unique or significant rewards, afterall they are challenging skirmishes. Make it drop the Symbol of Celebrimbor because my eyes bleed from running SG over and over again. Or make the Symbol skirmish barterable, even it is an absurd amount of marks... around 3k or so.
Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
A: Annuminas. That place is amazing and its so empty right now... what a waste.
Question 3:
We’d like to know what you would ask. If you could pick the questions for the Tell the Community Team, what would you ask?
A: Are you happy with the LI System? Do you think that the LI system could learn from the skirmish soldier system?Razor // Lusitanius // Crickhollow ~ Portuguese Kinship

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Question 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
1. More NPCs,
2. A better balance between classes. For the Siege in Mirkwood, On Tier 1 I can fire a ballista, then raging blades once and everything dies. For a Mini, it's a much different fight.
3. Better rewards for larger groups and or higher tiers.
Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
1. GF battles.
2. Lorien Skirmishes
3. Annuminas.
4. Maybe something 4th age.
Question 3:
We’d like to know what you would ask. If you could pick the questions for the Tell the Community Team, what would you ask? Remember, tell the community team questions are questions we ask the community to gather feedback about the game. Not questions you’d ask the Dev Team.
1.Do you feel that the Legendary Item system in its current form:
a. Excites you.
b. Causes you disappointment.
c. Is not important to you.
Do you feel that Legendary weapons should be deconstructed when new ones become available? What would make the LI system closer to Sting.
2. Do you feel that the questing and leveling time compared to end game is:
a. Too short
b. Too long
c. Just right.
How long do you think that it should take to level to the level cap from the previous cap.
3. Do you feel that Turbine GMs are:
a. Effective and helpful.
b. Ineffective but helpful and polite.
c. Ineffective and unhelpful.
What can be done to improve Turbine's Gm system?
4. Turbine is focusing on a streamlined zone layout packing dense content into medium sized areas.
Do you feel that:
a. It is an effective way to build areas.
b. It feel too small and rushed.Last edited by ararax2; Jan 28 2010 at 11:22 AM.

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
1. This is difficult to answer, as I really, really like the skirmish system, but he's what I came up with.
a) Randomisation of counter-attacks. No more of this "Alright, I know this flag will trigger a counter attack and the next one never will." Shake things up a bit for us, give us that little exciting edge of unpredictability.
b) Give the bannerguard a little boost. It's nice that he's designed as a jack-of-all-trades but unfortunately diluting his effectiveness means he's not even competent at anything, especially compared to a protector or a herbalist.
c) I can understand why cashable loot in the skirmishes is a no-no, but can we please have our class pages drop in them? The monsters are largely humanoid and well within the level requirement.
2. Somewhere in Moria. I mean, Volume 2 Book 5 would be perfect for the skirmish treatment (hint, hint). We have a massive war going on between the Iron Garrison and the goblins and orcs of Moria, let alone the conflict between Mordor/Moria/White Hand orcs, so why not let us feel like that is so. Right now all we see is Dwarves in their areas, orcs in their areas. We never see the orcs attacking the Dwarf holds on the landscape (those orcs and warg-riders near the Chamber of the Crossroads are blissfully ignored by the rows of Dwarf guards) so let's have something to give the illusion of ongoing struggle between Dwarf and goblin. Moria skirmishes would go a long way towards that.
3. Ask us about how we feel regarding how legendary items or radiance compare with the skirmish system in terms of fun, sense of progression, and grind factor. I'm sure you'll get several essays on the subject from numerous players ranging from the casuals and socials to the raiders and the number-crunchers.

Question 1:
1. A "Duo" mode.
2. Consolidate SM types - we need bagspace!.
3. Get soldier pathing to mimic pet pathing, as pets seem more 'intelligent' for the time being.
Question 2:
Annuminas
Question 3:

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Question 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
1. add more soldier controls or make the cooldown on the 'attack' timer 5-10s only.
2. make all encounters flash a message on screen. I'm mainly thinking of Gondamon here - the flag encounters activate and you have no warning that your defender is fighting an encounter mob until you see a message pop up that the mob has been killed and you can get the flag ...but since you didn't attack said mob, the body disappears and the encounter is wasted.
3. improve pathing
Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
Angmar would be my first choice, North Downs 2nd and Forochel 3rd

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
#1: I would increase the amount of loot & money in the skirmishes. (A lot of people I have spoken with feel that skirmishes are not worth their time and repairs.) I would increase the frequency of the optional deed bosses by just a smidge. I would make a 2-man skirmish (or allow for further customization of fellowship numbers) available.
#2: Fields of Fornost, Othrikar or Bail Rova
#3: Do you think that possible new skirmishes should be longer or shorter?

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Question 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
1- Drop some loot in there. A little coin and vendor trash to sell for repairs.
2- Add more of them
3- I'm a big fan of more cosmetic and housing items, add more of them
Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
First, I woulld do something in the Old Forest! Then add some that involve Moria, Forochel, Evendim, Thorins Hall, Locations in CD, URU and the Rift.

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
1. a) Duo skirmish. I think having 1, 2, 3, 6 and 12 would be sufficient.
b) Better scaling rewards for 3, 6 and 12 man skirmishes.
c) Lower the cooldown on the soldier attack skill.
2. Barad Guleran. Did I spell that right?
3. How about: What 3 changes would you make to the Legendary Item system?

Question 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
1. Bump up the rewards for Tier II and way up for Tier III
2. Rework barter costs for some items [e.g. Scroll of Empowerment]
3. Add a "finder" tool to find other people to run a group skirmish with.

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Question 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
1. Like others have said make either a Skirmish Mark pouch or another method of consolidating bag space
2. Expand encounters to include friendly NPCs ( like an escort type encounter)
3. Make the reward for 30-50 skirmishes more attainable for those in thee level range
Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
Moria as a whole followed closely with anniminas. To expand on what prev posters have siad I think it would be fun to have say a skimish that was set establishing the beach head in dolven view or a skirmish where we actually get to interact and see the White hand orcs attacking or being attacked by the moria orcs ( you know those orc watch / flaming depths quest chains)
Question 3:
We’d like to know what you would ask. If you could pick the questions for the Tell the Community Team, what would you ask?
what was the reason for shrinking moria to its current size? Will we see any more Moria expansion ( housing) instance using those doors off of durin's way etc?

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
1. Increase fellowship rewards.
2. NO repair bill for dying in Barrow Downs Survival. (Also if you retreat after you're ported out of the skirmish, no dread.
3. Allow us to give soldiers general modes and priorities. For example, telling a Herbalist to focus on morale or power, and giving a healing priority (heal the escort first, then the tank, then me) For Protectors, tell it to grab aggro off of the healer before anyone else. These modes you would set before the fight.
Goblin Town. You start at the camp in the High Pass and fight your way taking control points all the way to The Mountain's Throat. Once there you face a massive counterattack and it ends the same way as Barrow Downs Survival.Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?Not a player of LOTRO, an inhabitant of Middle-earth. Who hates the new forum software.

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
1.
-Rewards need to be restructured. If we spend as much time as we do in these skirmishes, we need to be rewarded for them. Something besides IA perks. Though to be fair, it is the best way to level a IA well done.
-Duo Skirmishes
-Anything larger then a solo instance needs to have much higher skirmish rewards.

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
1. Better AI, pathingQuestion 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
2. Ability to tell them to "stay".
3. Have them attack targets I am attacking and not stand there half the time doing nothing. What's the sense in having a soldier if the soldier doesn't do much of anything?
I would say Dol Dinen, Nan Wathren and/or the drake area in the North Downs because the level 30-40 skirmishes are based on level 1-20 areas (Shire, Gondoman) and are boringly easy. However, that being said, I think skirmishes need to be fixed first (see question 1) before more are added.Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
1. Do you want to see more content updates but with less features, or more features but with fewer content updates?Question 3:
We’d like to know what you would ask. If you could pick the questions for the Tell the Community Team, what would you ask?
2. Would you rather have really good, well thought out instances (on the level of Helegrod or the Rift) every second or third content update or instances in every content update?
3. Would you like to see a new PvP zone?

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Question 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
1 . Progress save feature mid skirmish or save points throughout the skirmish. This woudl be great for those times when your mid skirmish and allof a sudden you raid or group you ahve be waiting for starts. This leaves you with 1 option drop the skirmish and loose your prgress
2.Introduce PVMP Skirmishes, this is an excellent solution to the issue sin the moors, how cool would it be to runa Skirmish in the moors
3. More meaningful rewards, special loot Items, barter for SYmbol of cel
Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
I am mainly a PVE player, but how cool woudl it be to have th eoption to skirmish some of those OP CReeps

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Question 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
1. Scale for 2 players.
2. The little buff items you find are cool, but I find that I'm too busy to use them.
When we loot them, could they be entered into a 'buff queue' of sorts? add a third skirmish button to use the buff. I'm thinking of mario kart here, where you run over the bonuses and then they go into a box and you can use it when you want. Just send notification to the chat window. when you have a buff to use , when you hover over the 'use bonus' button, it shows you what buff you presently have queued. I know this would be a lot of work, but I think it would add an extra dimension. Perhaps have a small Skirmish UI element for summoning, directing, and using buff. that will also show some basic stats about your current skirmish. I really like skirmishes and the mechanics of it though.
I'm sneaking another between here - make the soldier's floaty damage a different color than ours, I can't always tell if she's actually doing anything.
3. Trait sets - Some of us have more than one soldier. Say a Sage and a Herbalist. As it stands we've got to swap out and re-equip each trait. How about in the skirmish traits panel, you can select a tab for each soldier type. Within that tab is that soldier's traits. You may on this page select your current soldier (and pay to do so). Perhaps have one slot above the soldier tabs with the icon of your current soldier's class.
Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
I'd like to see one in forochel, or maybe the battle instances in angmar. There's a lot of unrealized potential in imlad balchoreth. Really though, I'd love to see a lot of the old instances revamped and scaled to level. Keep the minimum fellowship size 3 or 6, 3 for CD/URU 6 for Rift, etc. To keep the time less than an hour assign each lock a Tier. In the case of the rift, the tiers are not difficulty, but instead the different bosses, you have to complete Tiers 1-5 before completing T6. Skirmish marks will give people an incentive (other than fun) to repeat the content.
Question 3:
We’d like to know what you would ask. If you could pick the questions for the Tell the Community Team, what would you ask?
Playing with others often includes waiting. What do you do to pass the time while waiting for the action to start?Last edited by geoboy; Jan 28 2010 at 02:33 PM.

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Question 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
1. A format for 2 man teams, not just solo and 3 or more.
2. a skirmish mark reward offering the lesser scroll of delving so casual players can improve on their lower level LI's without doing end game max level content
Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
No ideas here
Question 3:
We’d like to know what you would ask. If you could pick the questions for the Tell the Community Team, what would you ask?
Why can't we get some form of recent sales data for the Auction hall?
From time to time in some of the epic book instances it would be really helpfull if the quest tracker was in operation. (I'm thinking the quest where you are escorting Mazog through the swamps and have to get to the next contact before Mazog does with no idea where that might be)

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Question 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
1. More marks for optional encounters.
2. A little less wandering from the Skirmish soldiers, there's time when I know If hes summoned he will pull a group I am not ready for yet while positioning.
3. Healing issues (not sure if these have been addressed yet) when it comes to AOE heals not effecting soldiers and/or defenders.
Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
Angmar/The Rift/CD area or Misty Mountains/Helegrod area, many good ideas could be put into these areas.
Question 3:
We’d like to know what you would ask. If you could pick the questions for the Tell the Community Team, what would you ask? Remember, tell the community team questions are questions we ask the community to gather feedback about the game. Not questions you’d ask the Dev Team.
1. Are you happy with the updated Legendary system? (Pool A & Pool B vs. Random legs.)
2. Would you enjoy participating in older raids and instances (such as the rift, helegrod, CD) if they were scalable to different level points (50,60,65,and so on..) along with loot that scales along with it?
3. In your opinion are there any major issues(instance bugs/class problems) in the game that require attention?
4. In your opinion are there any minor (tooltips/non-gameplay/crafting) issues that require attention?

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Question 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
1. A wallet for all Skirmish related tokens. The Marks take up enough space, but having to stash a bunch of different tokens in your vault repeatedly does get old.
2. A positional adjustment system for your soldier. I'm really tired of having to turn so I am facing away from mobs to keep my Warrior from pulling everything.
3. Much higher rewards for encounters. At the very least, Skirmish Mark rewards for completing the encounter deeds.
Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
Annuminas- the atmosphere is really great and it has been almost completely forgotten by most players since Moria launched.
Question 3:
We’d like to know what you would ask. If you could pick the questions for the Tell the Community Team, what would you ask?
If you could make three changes to the Legendary Item system, what would they be? Should Legendary Items be less disposable?

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Some of these have been said before, but here goes:
I. Suggest 3 changes to the skirmish system
1. Allow 2 person skirmishes
2. A wider variety of mechanics in the skirmishes. Rather than simply taking and holding control points, make us do different things in different skirmishes. I'm thinking here of the sorcerers in one of the Angmar Battle Instances that you have to kill when they are weakened. And make the skirmish itself more dynamic. So, for e.g., if you don't kill a particular boss in a particular amount of time, you get a larger and more difficult wave (similar to the optional encounters, but these wouldn't be optional).
3. Higher rewards for tier 2 and tier 3 skirmishes. How about a symbol of Celembrimbor dropping from a tier 3 6 person skirmish (and 2 dropping from a 12 person?). Also, scrolls of empowerment dropping from tier 3 solo skirmishes.
II. What area for a new skirmish?
1. As others have mentioned, Annuminas would be great. I like Angmar as well (which could involve simply converting the battle instances).
III.
1. What are you views on radiance gating? Should it stay or should it go? What other type of gating mechanic would you suggest?

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
a. Improved pathing for soldiers, such as the ability to actually climb up stairs without having to coax them or resummon.Question 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
b. Either smooth out the difficulty scaling between different group sizes and tiers, or increase the rewards for higher tiers and larger groups. A significant change in difficulty for minimal increases in rewards is not worth the time and effort.
c. Add more in the way of optional encounters, add something to spice up the skirmishes. After a few completions they begin to get stale and boring.
Annuminas, hands down. This area was a blast and had a lot of potential to grow even further.Question 2:

a. Are you happy with the current itemization in the game?Question 3:

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
1. More Skirmishes
2. Better scaling - Some way to play in between fellowship sizes. It never fails that our kin always seems to want to play a skirmish when we are of the odd sizes 2 of us or 4 of us. It is possible to modify the skirmish set up for 2 people to make playing a 3 man skirmish possible but trying 4 people on the full fellowship level, its either impossible or to the point where there aren't any skirmish marks earned.
3. Session Play Skirmish i.e. Skirmish: Helms Deep you get to play an Ent or Rohirrim with appropriate solider. What would make it different from the other session play we currently have is that you could start it anytime from anywhere and have as many allies as you could muster.
The 21st hall would be a good skirmish actually making the book quest that is currently there a skirmish would be great.
Angmar in the city of.
My question would be: what improvement would you want to the cosmetic outfits system.Last edited by Tolmar; Jan 28 2010 at 12:26 PM. Reason: Put used Movie not book lore :(

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Question 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
1. Add some longer, dungeon crawl type skirmishes to go along with the short 'popcorn' types we have now. Something like the Great Barrows or Fornost.
2. Add more items to buy with skirmish marks on the skirmish vendors.
3. Up the rewards more for Tier 2 and Tier 3 skirmishes.
Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
Moria Radiance instances.

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
1) Get rid of all the different marks and coins and whatever else there is. There is just too much junk to haul around.
2) Redo the scaling completely. It just isn't right.
3) Balance out the rewards so that there isn't one or two skirmishes that everyone farms just cuz it's fast.
The rift. I know it's huge, but it could be broken up into 3 or 4 skirmishes.Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
Would you like it if we were to remove all legendary items from the game and replace them with a system more like what legendary items were originally supposed to be?Question 3:We’d like to know what you would ask. Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
1.) a.) Better soldier pathing (or ability to summon soldier to your side IN COMBAT)
......b.) 5 second CD on Soldier attack command/and no CD on resummoning soldier to your side
......c.) very small chance for Tier 2 & 3 Full Fellowship or Raid skirmishes to drop the Symbol of Celebrimbor
2.)Goblin Town! (awesome place), (second place is inside any of the Annuminas dungeon instances)
3.) What is the single most important change you want made to the LI system.
"And it is said by the Eldar that in water there lives yet the echo of the music of the Ainur more than in any substance else that is in this earth; and many of the children of Illuvatar hearken still unsated to the voices of the Sea, and yet know not for what they listen"

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Question 1:
a. Fewer levels of marks
b. Option for shorter time frame for the instances
c. Remove item wear costs or increase drops to keep the event from being a negative.
Question 2:
Annuminas seems ready for an instant.
Question 3:
Why are the slotted weapons taking up bag space?

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
1) Coin purse
2) Better scaled rewards for 3, 6, 12 man and Encounters.
3) Flag control points are too predictable with counterattacks. Randomly some should have no counter attacks, while other should sometimes have many or massive counter attacks
I would like to see a offensive skirmish (Any area, but the Rift would be cool.) based on a concept similar to the Barrows encounter where the deeper one progresses the greater the reward, and the less chance you will survive. A no-win scenario (possibly timed) with idea being how far can you get before you die. A known suicide mission for the greater good, much like riding to the final stand at the gates of Mordor.
What can be done to make crafting worthwhile again? When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse, out of the corner of my eye.

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
1. Take skirmish marks/rewards out of my backpack (track them like gold)
2. More incentive to run more challenging tiers. (Tier 1 solo skirms should NOT be the best way to earn skirmish marks)
3. More incentives to run group skirmishes. Skirms are great but this is supposed to be a MMO. Please adjust the rewards so that we actually come out ahead if we run these in groups. (Tier 1 solo skirms should NOT be the best way to earn skirmish marks)
- Id like to see skirm tech used to make old instances relevant again (rift, annum instances, cd, uru, fornost, helegrod, etc)Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
- Ask for what ever feedback you guys need to overhaul the legendary item systemQuestion 3:

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
1) Add a Skirmish Captain inside the skirmish, usable before the skirmish starts, so you can equip soldier cosmetics and see what they look like in real time. As it stands, you have to equip them outside the skirmish then enter one and summon the soldier to see what the change even did. It’d also be useful for those who have multiple types of soldiers and want to change it for the current skirmish.
2) Add more soldier controls, including a command for a healer to top you off between battles and the ability to have your healer actually attack if desired. It’d be weak dps but sometimes you just don’t need that much healing….
3) Add a verification step that warns if a solo player is about to enter a skirmish set to anything but solo. Accidentally clicking on the Barrow Downs skirmish will move you from "solo" to "small fellowship" and it stays that way when you select another skirmish, resulting in a problem if you don’t notice it and enter the skirmish.
Former raid instances such as the Rift or Helegrod, where you are going into a beaten version of the instance to clean up stray mobs or clean out new ones that are trying to move into it in the absence of the former "tenants."question 2:
if You Could Add A New Skirmish To The Game, What Existing Area Or Instance Would You Base It On?
I'd definitely be interested in seeing one about PvMP, and another about Legendary Items. One about changes to kinships and kin housing would be good, too, as I know there are plenty of options people would like to see (such as customizable titles, more membership ranks, selectable permissions, etc.).question 3:

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
A. Skirmish Changes
1. Give players more control over our soldiers. Maybe have icons for healing/buffing/attacking/debuffing all on separate short cooldowns.
2. Make the rewards worth it, and be more consistent with those rewards. I hate running through a skirmish where I get a single vendor trash item, and other times it's multiple marks and multiple vendor items.
3. Allow monster player skirmishes with pots/gold/stones or even DP as rewards. Toss us PvMPers a bone once in a while!
B. Skirmish location
As suggested above, the Ettenmoors. Second choice would certainly be Annúminas.
C. Question to ask
What area would players like to see revamped next.

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
Remove marks from inventory.
More rewards for Tiers 2-3.
Cosmetic instance set rewards (Helegrod, Rift, Annuminas, Angmar, Moria, Lorien, Mirkwood).
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
Annuminas - Combination offensive and defensive. Take control points at the various hotspots and camps. Waves come to take them back and timed intervals, not immediately after you take them. Use the WHOLE Annuminas map to make an epically LONG skirmish. Boss would be at the top of the island outside the palace.Elendilmir: Arda Shrugged - Crickhollow: The Colonists

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Question 1:
If you could make 3 changes to the Skirmish System, what would they be?
1 - random drops of LI's. Put them in the chests/bosses/encounters if you want to keep the mob looting to a minimum.
2 - make all of the encounter bosses soloable (unlike Ruinwhatever in Danegolor)
3 - adding more mob variety would be fun, this one is kind of nitpicky though
Question 2:
If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
The Old Forest. I think it'd be funny if you tried to "help" Tom Bombadil from attacking orcs and when you get to the end, he saves your bacon again from a completely nasty boss.
Question 3:
We’d like to know what you would ask. If you could pick the questions for the Tell the Community Team, what would you ask?
Do you like the current LI grind? It's fine for one character, but pretty impossible to manage for those of us with lots of alts. Dropping item levels and letting them truly grow with your toon would be more fun. For instance, you get an axe with nice legacies at level 58, and it gains levels right along with you so you didn't have to replace it with a new one every 2 levels.

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
the only thing I would do is increase the amount of skirmish points you can earn for the daily and for the different events through out a skirmish, but make this like rest XP, if you don't do skirmishes for a day you get the equivalent of 2 quests when you do it, this is those who can't play for hours a day get a chance to get more rewards out of the system
Question 2:Forochel comes to mind, any of the Lossoth camps is a good place for a defensive skirmish. Dolven View would also work well.If you could add a new Skirmish to the game, what existing area or instance would you base it on?
as for an offensive skirmish you could use the ruins in northern trollshaws or the Hillman city in Angmar.
Question 3:here's my question: what improvements would you make to the LI system? We’d like to know what you would ask. If you could pick the questions for the Tell the Community Team, what would you ask? Remember, tell the community team questions are questions we ask the community to gather feedback about the game. Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Q1: 3 changes to the Skirmish System.
1. Enemy loot. I'm a bit disappointed that none of the enemies have loot. I still click on them hoping that I can pick something up ... but not yet.
2. Random paths. So far, every Skirmish that I have done (I have not tried all of them so far) has only one path to the end encounter. I would enjoy if a few skirmishes had "random" paths leading to the end encounter. This would introduce another layer of randomness to the skirmishes which would be good. For example, have a map with three paths to the end boss; during a skirmish, two paths would randomly be blocked.
3. More random enemies. I was initially hoping that the reason for the skirmish mission would change with each encounter. For example, "A band of bandits are attacking the Last Inn", "The undead has risen and are attacking the Last Inn", "Goblins are attacking the Last Inn", or "Wolves and Wargs are attacking the Last Inn". This would be similar to the crafting instances; but with a little more "fun".
Q2: Add a new Skirmish to the game.
I always imagined a tunnel in Moria would be a fun Skirmish. The adventure would be, "explore this unknown tunnel", and lead to a tunnel of random encounters. For example, the tunnel could be filled with spiders, orcs, morrivel, etc. As with Q1, I would love it if the tunnel layout would "change" which would make you to take a different path each mission to the end encounter.
Q3: Pick the questions for the Tell the Community Team
I've got nothing here.

Re: Tell The Community Team - 1/28/2010
Firstly, I would add 2 new game modes. Currently there's only assault, defend, and one 'survival' mode. What could be added are modes such as the classic Capture the Flag and Dungeon Delve. Explain:
Capture the FlagSecondly, I would change the number of skirmish marks awarded for higher difficulty. Currently Tier 3 skirmishes are not worth doing at all. It takes you nearly double the amount of time to run through a Tier 3 and it doesn't award you even 1.5x skirmish marks for it. And it would be different if the Fourth/Veteran's Fourth marks actually had some significance, but they don't. The gear you can get with those marks can be easily surpased by more simply-obtainable items, they don't trade for very much more than Third marks, and they cannot be used to bring the cost of certain items down. Here's what Fourth Marks should do:
The CtF mode would consist of areas with constantly respawning monsters that are difficult enough to provide an encounter-sized challenge but not so hard as to take a long time in defeating. They would be defending banners or "objects of interest" that need to be collected and brought back to the outpost, campsite, frontlines, etc. in order to give the free peoples an edge or to weaken the enemy. Once all sites are captured, the skirmish is over. Though, as you capture more and more PoI's, the defenders of the remaining PoI's become either stronger or more numerous. At the end, there could even be a boss type encounter that either defends the final point or launches a last-ditch effort on the player's stronghold.
Dungeon Delve
DD mode would be for all of the instances currently in the game re-worked as skirmish maps. It would be a form of play where you run through each instance as a skirmish, but it plays through as though you were in the instance at the level you set the skirmish up for. That way places like Garth Agarwen, The Great Barrow, Fornost, and even The Rift could be replayed through gaining skirmish marks instead of normal instance loot. Also, these instances wouldn't advance the randomized lieutenant deeds but instead would have their own boss-based deeds to complete granting an extra skirmish bonus.- Use Fourth Marks to trade for level 65 3rd age legendary weapons
- Use Fourth/Veteran's Fourth Marks as an optional secondary cost to lower the normal skirmish cost of scrolls, runes, and settings.
- Use Veteran's Fourth Marks, and a high amount of skirmish marks, to trade for Symbols of Celebrimbor
Thirdly, I would increase the gear's power obtainable by skirmish marks. At least at the high-end. I know that you guys don't want to make the end-game instances obsolete, but it won't overshadow the instance gear if it doesn't have radiance on it. And there's no call for how god-awful the stuff at level 65 is right now. Its hard enough to obtain, yet its still garbage.
I would add all of the previous instances as re-worked 3 and 6 player skirmishes that could level all the way up to the cap (65). They would be run under the new "Dungeon Delve" mode I've described above.
I'd even do The Rift and Helegrod over as 12 and 24-man skirmish raids. Nothing from Moria though...yet.
Well, most importantly, I would only ask questions about things that will be changed. I have a lot of feedback to give, and I'm sure others do as well; the questions you ask here are fine. I would make only one slight adjustment. Some answers/feedback should be replied to and addressed. Don't just ask the question and then leave it. Even though I know you read the forums, showing you do so by a simple reply will keep the feedback coming instead of having it degrade into a trollfest as forums usually do.
