Skirmish Public Service Announcements
I'll be putting information here (largely in the from of MS Painted screen-shots) that should help your Skirmish experience. This will be updated whenever I darn well feel like it. Enjoy!
Announcement One: Use the Filter by Profile menu when interacting with Skirmish Vendors. It is your friend. The two arrow buttons at the bottom of the UI are your enemy. They said terrible things about your mother. Do not trust them.
Announcement Two: If you see very few traits at the Skirmish Trainer, this may be why! This toggle allows you to concentrate on ranking up traits you already have slotted. We default it to "on" to let new players focus on only traits they can use. Don't forget to turn it off once you are comfortable with the system!
Announcement Three: You can set a Skirmish level below (or above) your own level! Special thanx to wyrde

"There will be prizes and gambling as usual to celebrate Columbus’s triumphant rise from the dead to smite his enemies without mercy. Don’t count yourself amongst them! We’ll be discussing and praising all of Columbus’s many inventions such as the lightbulb, telegraph, and plastic to avoid incurring his wrath."
Yes we are all dumbo's and want to instantly know everything!! without having to actually exercise a brain cell! *offers Zombie chocolate chip cookies and milk*
... I pushed the button in your picture and nothing happened... what am I doing wrong?
*runs ducking physical objects manifesting out of the computer screen*
j/k Zombie
It might take a bit for people to do things like... read the menus. Everyone is just soooo excited about the razzle and the dazzle that they forget they might need to reattach their heads and use what is in them. There is a bit of a steep learning curve that is directly proportional to the steepness of ones forehead. I for one had Linwe explain it to me.
They don't invite me to the drive in because they want to buy me popcorn.
*passes Zombie some popcorn as they watch the gongshow unfold*
A new one!
Skirmishing has you low on moral because your soldier is just standing there?
Or perhaps your soldier has become focused on the wrong enemy?
Too bad you can't have bg music in these. This is the one I'd choose for this post. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYNJ7QwrzYk The "Friends" memo at the end is particularly fitting.
It reminds me of my emails to clients about how to use stuff I code. Click here and there but I go for big honking arrows - and there's something over here you might like, no one's into exploring these days it seems.
Please note - In the Skirmish Tutorial second section (at the Prancing Pony), DO =>NOT<= buy more than the Level 1 warrior or the instance will lock up and not permit you to advance.

The instance did not lock up on me when I bought two levels. It must be a sporadic bug.
Unless stated otherwise, all content in this post is My Personal Opinion.
You can purchase as many attributes, skills, training, and personal traits as you want, but you can only equip as many as will fit in your Skirmish Equipped Traits window, so choose wisely! The blank entries in the Attribute section are for the cosmetic/racial attributes you can purchase. You can still only equip one soldier "Class" at a time (but by leaving in all the cosmetic attributes, all your soldiers can look similar).
Be especially careful with the Personal traits. This limited set of traits applies to your own character, not your soldier, and can greatly enhance your character's abilities during a skirmish. Not to mention survival!

I stored up about 2k skirmish points then went to look at the armor and weapons goodies for sale. It was rather underwhelming- level 65 'best' gear was still sub-par to guild/loth crafted level 60.
What might be cool is skirmish points for recipes that crafters could make great gear with. Or another tier of gear for lots of SM and named marks - otherwise I really don't see much point to the weapon/armor items available - especially for the cost/effort in SM's.
Seems a pity, I thought SM for some of the harder to get dungeon gear might be great for soloist/smaller group type players.

Hehe, basically I'm saying some of the armour rewards offer some decent cosmetics in a less random way than yellow armour drops. One of those happens to be a shield that is exactly the same as an Uruk-shield.

I'll second that. There are raid items that I'd like purely as cosmetics, even though they're 10+ levels below my current gear, but the likelihood of getting people to run the Rift just so my Champion can have a pretty helmet is pretty darn low. Skirmishes would be the perfect way for me to work for the item myself.

Cosmetic versions of old gear was definitely something suggested in beta. Hopefully we'll see those some day. I'd love to have the Rift outfit on my Waden.

Has there been mention of getting a checkbox option to only show 'equipped' traits for training? I keep putting points into ex-soldier traits by mistake.

If the soldier you are currently using is of another class you should be able to just click the "+" or "-" boxes to show/hide the options under that soldier class.
But yeah that would be a nice option.
Do everyone a favor and read your tooltips.
