I'm running Dell Inspirion 1545 laptop with an Intel Celeron and 2GB of Ram, have downloaded .net 1.1 and done everything else that all the forums say to do to get the client to work with my Windows 7, all of the following comes from the details page of the error that I get when I try to log into the client, but I continually get the following message:

I just got a new laptop, and it has Windows 7 (64-bit). I installed the game, but I seem to be unable to launch it.
I took technical support's advice and uninstalled and re-installed Microsoft .NET 1.1 and Microsoft .NET 1.1 (Hotfix).

So i waited till today it was 100% but when i click play remains stuck on the install Microsoft .net framework, and a few times had application error, with the code 15d something. It said option to debug so i did that and now it does not move at all

try manually installing dotnet framework 1.1 and dotnet framework 1.1sp1

It tells me log in, then it wants to patch because it has detected the patch. After the black screen briefly shows, it says Error can't patch! So i tried again, and some bars were moving (Updating engine) I think it is installed but how to stop the patching? Everything else seems ok to go.
I run it from Steam- but i don't see the folder where it has installed to. Are there folders?
Everytime i log into LOTRO i am able to play fine for about 30-45 minutes, then i starts to lag for a good 5 minutes. Usually i just
exit out of the game for a little bit and then it starts to run fine. I tried a couple things like deleting UserPreferences.ini, and changin my graphic settings.Please help i really want to play.

It looks like memory is being filled and more and more and something fishy is going on. Try to lower the texture cache size slider all the way to the lowest value maybe. Also, when you start to lag, open Task Manager and check how much memory is lotroclient.exe using.

i found out that when i was lagging, that my lotro client was the same as when i was not lagging which was 530,000-570,000K. Something that did change was the cpu usage. it went up to about 15 or 20 and when it wasnt lagging it went back down to like 1 or 2.I also did put the texture cache size to the lowest.

I have a sony desktop with Windows 7 and I use EI (because my stupid google chrome isn't working). Whenever I try to connect to LOTRO I can log in just fine. I choose I server (I usually use Laurelin [En-Rp]) and the window pops up that means it's connecting. But, it doesn't connect. It says:

Are the servers down? If not then do I have to re-install? Help!

It also seems that Win8 is begining to roll with server RTM scheduled for this month and clients not too far into the future.
It apears that .net 1.x is not going to be compatible with Win8 either.
It'd sure be nice to play this game.
Any chance that LotRo is going to be made compatible with an OS from this decade soon?

I recently installed lord of the rings online. But, it keeps giving me a problem involving URI, and a long error list. This occurs when the launcher is working. Sorry if this has been asked before, and thanks for any help.
EDIT: I only had to run the game a few times to clear this up.

I installed RoR with Parallels yesterday and was surprised how smooth everything works with only minor graphics options turned down (not off!). Now i can wait for the official mac client and don't need Bootcamp anymore.

As the OS X client uses a Qt launcher there's a chance that the windows client gets it too and hopefully when we get a LInux client it can use it too.

I have been having issues and I am on Win 7, our other computer had no issues with install. I tried again this morning after giving up last night and could not even boot the game. I un-installed and reinstalled using my disks and now no patches after Moria will install.
Could you go into specifics? "I am having issues" is useless statement.

There's no rewrite needed since librarys that Lotro use work under Linux and since both OSs: Linux and OS X are POSIX compilant systems so the OS X client and the launcher contains no OS X specific code.

My Windows 7 would not be an issue except that I found out my graphics card is not compatible with it. I have played this game even so but now with the new patches I cannot reinstall the game at all. It started out fine with the old install but got hung up repeatedly. Now I can't even try to make it work because of the latest issue with the installer. I'm stuck for good it seems and I'm a Premium player with no game access and now no game at all. BUGS. I did manage to send a report via the game launcher before deleting game and have not heard a word from Turbine by email at all so I have no clue if they are doing anything about this launcher issue for me or any others.
Meantime I have to wait till xmas for the new graphics card... bummers again. That is one long wait. Hope that is all it is. I could still run the game with the card I now have because i have done so for the past 2 years in spite of not knowing it wasn't compatible. ha. Laughs are now on me.

My Windows 7 would not be an issue except that I found out my graphics card is not compatible with it. I have played this game even so but now with the new patches I cannot reinstall the game at all. It started out fine with the old install but got hung up repeatedly. Now I can't even try to make it work because of the latest issue with the installer. I'm stuck for good it seems and I'm a Premium player with no game access and now no game at all. BUGS. I did manage to send a report via the game launcher before deleting game and have not heard a word from Turbine by email at all so I have no clue if they are doing anything about this launcher issue for me or any others.
you would be advised to post this as a new thread for your problem and\or checking if your problem is similar to any of the other problems people are having
it may help if we knew what the problem your having is
on a final note, if you filed a bug report these will not result in any help from support, bug reports are to report Bugs aka features not working as intended they are sent to the bug chasing team who will investigate problems. if you need help from support you need to raise a support request ticket at http://support.turbine.com/ics/support/splash.asp

First I'm glad I found and read this thread! Thanks Sapience I will absolutely install Win7/64.
I'm not a novice to computers, I build them program them and so on... My main question has to do with this. I'm upgrading a Winxp system to Win7. I get the disc's today (hopefully). The process will completely remove all my apps so obviously I will have to reinstall my stuff. I wanted to know if anyone knows the best way to reinstall the game. I read the information at Turbine, I have plug-ins running, music for my toons to play, and skins in my UI folder. I was going to remove all the screen-shots I have in the main folder and save everything else as is. So what I was wondering is when I reinstall the game, if I copy all that information back in to the main LOTRO file will the game see it OK and so forth. Any suggestions, or pertinent information on this process will be appreciated.
to reinstall lotro onto new machine or new install of windows simply backup your current install of lotro and the my doc\the lord of the rings online folder, this will take all your screenshots, UI, ABC music, plugins but i would advise deleting the userpreferences.ini
once your new windows install is up and running with all the latest drivers and your ready for lotro install dotnet framework 1.1 and dotnet framework 1.1sp1 and simply copy lotro onto your new w7 install
if your playing lotro on a non admin account (the first account created under w7 will be the admin account) you need to add your windows logon as full control of the lotro install folder

Excellent Thank you, after readfing this I was wondering, I forgot to state, my install of LOTRO is on an external disk, can I simply back up the LOTRO mydoc\file as you suggest and then point WIn7 to the Game after placing the LOTRO mydoc\file where it shouild be?

it dosent matter where lotro is installed atm installed is installed regardless of where the drive sits, the process is the same.
if the drive is external then it should make the migration process simpler, you should just be able to unplug it from XP then plug it into W7, the only thing you may want to do is reformat format the drive as exFat

Ok made the switch last night, all went well, i used 7/64 (thanks Sapience). haven't had a chance to run the game but once I set all the options and move files I'll report. It seems there are a few issues with Win7 and LOTRO so I covered the bases and looked in to the .net issue but that seems a ways back. Anywhoo, I'll get back with any issues or positive results. Thanks for the info and help guys. Much appreciated.
Results.
I moved the mydoc/tlotro folder to it's place using the win7 backup tool. Before I did anything else I installed all the Win7 updates that were available. Here I have to say that Win7 saw mjy 6 gig of ram where WinXp did not, first very nice surprise. After updates I ran the game. Ther first thing that happened was the .net framework warning and the link to Windows to install it. Here I have to say I was a bit reluctant as I had read that .net 1.1 had compatability issues with 7, I installed and there was no problems that I could see and have not seen any. Another thing that happened was the d3DX9_42.dll issue so Installed DX9 and restarted the game. The game immediately recognized DX11 and offered to make the change for itself to use it. I said yes and then it moved on, the game installed the c++ needed for it to run. Here I have to say I got worried because after accepting the first Eula I got this very scary error screen that was quite long and had a red X at the top saying to call support. I have an image of it if anyone is interested in seeing it. Something about a Boybox or other. I stoppped and after saving the image I tried to log in again and this time the game went through the process with no hitches and I played for a while. I have to admit this was the best thing I could have done, my system ran smoother. I ran detect graphic setting in the game and it set me at the highest level. The game was incredible, 3d was cleaner and clearer and game play was smoother than I have ever seen. DX11 and 6gigs of ram with my Radeon HD6000 ddr3 series card with 2 gig ram never looked better!

lotro works on most peoples w7 32bit admittedly there have been issues with memory leaks etc, this is to put it bluntly most likely an issue with your pc
if your having problems getting lotro running you would also be advised to start a new thread asking for help ratger than have your problem burried and lost in another thread. you will need to provide us with more info on what the problem is and your full system specs.
