Re: Windows 7 and LOTRO Compatibility
Im a Windows 7 player in serious need and have posted elsewhere in this forum without any helping me. Actually, my problem seems complex. Before I open a tech support ticket, I'd rather see if the community can help me. I was having trouble downloading the game from the internet so I bought the cds, perhaps they are dvds but they look like cds to me. The initial install was no problem at all. Of course it had to update and that is when the first problem happened It was updating extremely slowly, my computer is pretty fast so that is surprising. However, the serious problem was that it would update seemingly all the files and then start all over again without me being able to get the log on screen. Last night, I finally was able to get into the login screen and put in my information. It then would not log on me on. Today I went to try to figure out the problem at the log-in level and found I had to update again. I do not think a new patch happened between today and yesterday so this is strange. And the having to repeat the slow patching process over and over again thing is back. Is there any cure for this series of problems? Please help me, I want to play this game badly, but I seem to be constantly prevented from my goal of actually logging on. Please help! I cant start my subscription until I at least know I can log in!
Thanks Moar

AW: Windows 7 and LOTRO Compatibility
Hello
i can't start the hdro launcher.
i've got Win7 home premium 64Bit with sp1. When iam trieing to start the launcher it appears a error message like:
Application has generated an Exception that coult not be handled.
after that, there's a process id and a thread id.
Google says, that this is a Microsoft .NET Framework problem. I've installed the .NET Framework with this 'howto':
http://www.mydigitallife.info/instal...e-fails-error/
the installation runs without errors. After installing the .NET package i tried to start the launcher again..same error...
So i tried to say lotro "you have to run hdro with .NET 4.0"....on a 'hard' way.. (editing the turbineinvoker.config and turbinelauncher.config)
after that the game starts...but when the game is trieing to update to the latest version... it overwrites the turbineinvoker.config and turbinelauncher.config ....again..and again...
now i have no idea ...i want to play lotro!
please help :/

Re: Windows 7 and LOTRO Compatibility
Be sure the game is up to date completely then run the file TurbineRegisterGDF.exe in your LOTRO folder AS ADMINISTRATOR. You will not see anything happen except for maybe the cursor flash a few times. Then be sure the The Lord of the Rings Online folder is in your my documents folder and .NET 1.1 is installed and working properly.
You can still download all the .NET 1.1 files from Microsoft just do a bit of searching and when you install just ok past all the warning messages.
You can download this utility to see if ,NET 1.1 is installed correctly: http://www.asoft.be/prod_netver.html
Then reboot.
This worked for me.

Re: Windows 7 and LOTRO Compatibility
My error seems to be extremely odd, and very random, I've verified its allowed in my firewall and yet it is not loading whether or not servers are Up or Down. It just shows that its checking them forever and I'd have to end its process in order to close it at all.
Here's a video of it and I use a 1gbps cable modem (tested) which makes it extremely odd...

Re: Windows 7 and LOTRO Compatibility
I haven't looked through this whole thread but I seem to be having a weird problem. I'm using windows 7 64-bit. Rather than having trouble running or installing the game, I think lotro (or rather the "prerequisite software") is messing up my computer. Twice now after having lotro installed my computer randomly freezes up. My mouse cursor still moves and my music will continue to play but the screen is frozen. This happens completely at random. It doesn't matter if I'm surfing the net, playing a game or if the comp is sitting idle. I'm 99.99% certain its a software issue since doing a system restore completely cleared it up. I recently installed lotro and it started up again. Seeing the trouble people are/were having with .net 1.1 I'm uninstalling that first to see if that makes a difference.
Edit: ugh nevermind. That seemed to make things 10x worse. Looks like I'll be doing another system restore. Goodbye Lotro

Re: Windows 7 and LOTRO Compatibility
I've just reinstalled lotro on win 64 ultimate and the game keeps trying to download .net 2.0 x86. The TurbineRegisterGDF.exe fix didn't work for me.
Manually installing 2.0 x86 doesn't work because OS is x64, installing .net 2.0 x64 does not work because it says it is already included in the operating system.
I recently had some trouble installing terraria, as well trouble installing the .net 4.0 required for the game, though I eventually got 4.0 to install (and terraria to run!).
Tried to install SP1 but so far hasn't worked.
Uninstalled 1.1 to get 4.0 installed but have since re-installed 1.1 it without issue (i think).
BTW I've been searching google, this forum, other forums, this thread etc etc for about 2 hours now and no dice

Re: Windows 7 and LOTRO Compatibility
I don't know if there's actually anyone helping users here. I spent an entire day downloading the game, then a long time while it was installed, now it won't run. When I open the window, it says it's installing needed software, but it's been doing this for 2 days already. Does it just not work with Windows 7?

Re: Windows 7 and LOTRO Compatibility
I've never had any trouble with LOTRO not working under Windows 7. In fact I'm using the Windows 8 Dev Preview right now and LOTRO runs fine in it too.

Re: Windows 7 and LOTRO Compatibility
Then why does my TurbineLauncher.exe process appear for a millisecond in Task Manager then disappear? I've done all the .NET updates, I've tried compatibility mode, getting Windows updates, checking DXDiag and that .NET detector, run it as Administrator, tried the TurbineRegisterGDF.exe fix, etc.
I'm not getting any error messages, it just plain will not run. Nothing shows up in Event Viewer (didn't really expect it to). I can't figure out how to generate the debug code I've seen people posting.
I've uninstalled, reinstalled into different directories, reinstalled on different HDDs, removed all my USB stuff.
I can't think of anything else to try, unless someone can tell me how to get that debug output displayed.
Really wanted to play LOTRO, but kind of having second thoughts. How much effort is it worth just to play a game?
Any logical suggestions would be helpful.

Hi. I'm using Windows 7 on a 64-bit computer. When I load LOTRO, it stops on the very last screen before entering the game world. The progress bar at the bottom doesn't fill or anything and it never finishes loading. Has anyone had this problem?

Re: Windows 7 and LOTRO Compatibility
SO, to a person who's name appears in blue, when is LotRo client going to come out with an actual Win7 compatible version so I can get rid of this crummy .Net 1.x installation that causes instability with Win7 x64 and is only needed for LotRo?
I mean, as long as we're talking about compatibility and all.

Just so that I'm being really clear.. I'm referring to http://blogs.msdn.com/b/servicing/ar...r-2008-r2.aspx Since I'd rather be able to have support of the OS if needed, when can I look for a version of the LotRo client that doesn't require the use of an unsupported OS build?

Re: Windows 7 and LOTRO Compatibility
Lotro worked great in beta, and for four years until I purchased the update of Issenden. Now once I select a character I freeze up and crash to a black screen. Only way out is to cold boot the computer. I have 8g of ram and have ran many different tests for computer problems and it shows nothing. I have an nividia GTX295 so it wasn't a cheap video card either. I have even reinstalled the game multiple times... nothing is working and it is the only game I have problems with now.

Re: Windows 7 and LOTRO Compatibility
Hey, I'm not sure what changed, but recently LOTRO has been freezing my PC.
I think it has something to do with coming back from being AFK, because it seems to happen everytime I sit back down at the computer and try to play. Maybe something to do with my mouse of keyboard sleeping, because I've heard my computer play that sound as if I just plugged something back in.
Anyway, I went into power settings and as far as I can tell I disabled usb devices sleeping, but who knows.
Maybe it's not even anything to do with what I think it is.
EDIT: Pulling the mouse usb out and plugging it back in makes the game hang for a moment both ways. I think I'm on to something here.Last edited by Elav; Oct 29 2011 at 07:44 PM.

Having an issue where every time I alt tab out of fullscreen, then come back to the game, the brightness and contrast dim. And the the only way I can revert it back is to change the graphics level every time.

Re: Windows 7 and LOTRO Compatibility
I didn't have time to read thread so I'm wondering if you can run lotro on windows 7 32 bit.
I can't play cause every time I enter lotro it works fine for like a minute and then freezes, sounds stops altogether
and the only way I can get out of the game is to hit Alt-Ctrl-Del and log out of my user or shut down.
Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Re: Windows 7 and LOTRO Compatibility
Ok so within the last 2 weeks the game has started giving me one or more of the following:
1. the "Not Responding" notification immediately after selecting a world (Arkenstone is automatically chosen by default)
2. it often takes over 5 minutes for the load status bar to fill
3. once I get into the game on a character the client will again give the "Not Responding" notification
Eventually all of these issues somehow clear w/o my doing anything.
The only change I've recently made is to update Adobe Air and Adobe Flash Player. Are either of these programs related to running LOTRO?
Here is the Black Speech Microsoft still uses to communicate, clearly with us the users, related to the issue:
Description:
A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows.

Re: Windows 7 and LOTRO Compatibility
I found a solution for my nvidia SLI system that was hanging at a black screen with just the LOTRO cursor. I am using the high res client, by the way. So set your video refresh rate to 60hz in Windows and then set the graphics settings in LOTRO to 60hz and you should be OK. 75hz was unstable.
