Hello, I'm an ex-WoW and WAR player wanting to give LOTRO a try. There were some issues using TDM to download the full client so I used a link provided on the forums to directly download the Standard Res Client (that fuenza something something web link..). I am on a 10 day trial by the way.
Anyway the 6ish gig download goes well, install is teflon smooth, I'm happy, but trying to run LOTRO, I encounter a dreaded error.
Game Error
The game client was passed invalid command-line parameters.
Thats the full error that pops up in a little blue box with an "OK" button.
Just for info, I tried to run LOTRO by entering C:\ProgramFiles\Turbine\TheLor dOfTheRingsOnline\lotroclient. exe
I have received the above message on 2 PCs, one running XP and one running Vista. Redownloading and reinstalling has not helped either.
Would greatly appreciate any advice so I can give this game a fair tryout before I decide to subscribe.
Thanks Mirthgar, I was having trouble with running the game on windows 7 and this cured it for me as well. I'm guessing the native link uses the XP (launcher) as it doesn't recognize windows 7, instead of setting up a link to Invoker.
Apologies for the necro-post, but I don't believe that's the root cause, at least in my case. I'm launching the game from the system tray icon and Turbinelauncher.exe is an active process is my task manager when I double-click on the ring icon. When I log in, the lotroclient.exe process appears. I notice that it tends to crash (giving me the error) when I move focus away from the Turbine logo screen or the screen immediately following it (just prior to the game loading the character screen).
EDIT: I'm running LOTRO on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit RTM system. Never saw this issue previously when it was running on Vista Pro.
I am terribly sorry for reviving this old topic, but I'm having the same problem.
I was playing LOTRO when my headset got all messed up. After (unsuccessfully) playing with the audio options, I chose to exit the game and restart the launcher to force the new settings to take effect.
I clicked the shortcut I always click, got the login-panel... entered my information... selected the world... and then the screen turned black for a few seconds, only to display my desktop afterwards. When I click the launcher in my taskbar, it simply repeats the process. When I right-click and select the lotroclient.exe-option, I get the Game Error 205-window on my screen.
I have tried clicking the TurbineLauncher.exe and the TurbineInvoker.exe and they both lead to the same result: error 205.
Could anyone please help me fix this annoying problem?
I have the same error after playing few minutes - sometimes after 5 min., sometimes after 1 hour. It only appears if I minimize the game and want to go back to it after checking a website etc. The problem occures since three/four (?) weeks. I didn't have this error since I started to play Lotro. (Windows 7 64-bit)
edit: I think it happens only if I click on the taskbar to restore the game. If I use Alt+Tab it doesn't happen, but I've to watch after it.

Turbine: We are working on translation issues. We do care about the problems! It sometimes takes a bit to get these issues fixed.
