O totally agree that more hairstyles need to be implemented. The current choices are ho-hum. A nice long ponytail for females would be especially nice. It's been four years with the same drab hairstyles, time for some more variety!
More choices for elf women, especially hair styles that flatter! Wavy hair and softer updo's would be nice. There are a few good ones, but too few that make elf women look as beautiful as they should!
One thing I would especialy love to be added is for male Men to be able to have 5 o' clock shadows, just like the one that Aragorn has in the movies. He looks so cool and bad-??? with it. Please add it Turbine!
yeah the male elf hairdo with the twirly braids, and the neglected female hairdos for elves just doesn't seem right.
I hope also, we get longer hair for the ladies some day.
My girlfriend has hip length hair and would love to have it represented on all her characters ( all races )
So far her dwarf lassies are the only ones with the longest hair!
The answer to our problems is simple. We need WIGS.
No need to code new hairstyles into the character creator, or worry about adding hairstylists in game (though it would be a nice option).
Just sell new hairstyles as cosmetic head items. Helms replace the hair model already anyway. Just design new hairstyles as if they were helms and sell them that way. Allow them to be dyed, sell special hair dyes that only work with the wigs. (Or just tie the color to the character's actual hair color, if need be).
People get the new hairstyles they've been begging for, you have some very desirable items to add to the store and there are no hassles with having to tinker with the character creation process. (As an added bonus, people can change wigs as easily as they change any other cosmetic item).
You are welcome. If you follow my suggestion, maybe you can slide me a coupon for a free wig or two when they hit the store.
I think this is an awesome idea, plus rep to you

I've noticed that not only do NPCs have more varied and attractive hair, they also seem to get some pretty nice clothing that is unavailable to players.. I do understand that you want some distinction between player and non-player characters, but still it would be nice if we had some of those goodies. The skins already exist in many cases, it can't be that difficult to implement.

One of the things I love about making new characters, in any game, is the creation process. Clothes alone do not make their personality. Turbine has latched onto cosmetics and dyes,(and thanks for that) but have done zilch with creation options. While having more personalized "slider" structure options would be awesome, I know that'd be a big undertaking. I would be THRILLED just to have more hairstyles! Seems like that wouldn't be much harder than all these new outfits they have been giving us.
I have around 50 characters in lotro... They shouldn't have to all look so much alike, since at best, only half of the hairstyles that are offered are presentable.
I might be in a minority saying this, but often I will continue playing a game largely because I love how my character looks.
/signed. @MorenaT, I also often will continue playing a game because I love how my character looks. So, Turbine please add new hairstyles, and while you're at it, add new facial hairstyles as well. I can't select a facial hair I really like for my man champion.
I have been asking, and asking for new hairstyles forEVER! The hobbit styles are in dire need of redoing, and I agree with the braids from the OP. It just seems more middle earth than a lot of the hairstyles. Yes they do have a braid, but it ends in a barrette??? Seriously? We need more long hairstyles, and the hobbits need more curly ones, maybe a nice updo.

Re: New Hairstyles!
Not sure if it has been mentioned before, but there are a good number of styles that both LOTRO and DDO share. So, perhaps Turbine could just import a few more of the nicer hair styles from DDO? Here are a few I like:

My girlfriend refuses to play this game solely due to the terrible hairstyles and player models (especially the player face options). She is the type of player that would blow good money on cosmetics from your store just to make her character cute. You are missing an opportunity with that demographic, turbine.

I dont even ask my son to play for this reason. He spends hours on other games getting his outfit right before doing much of anything else.
The problem I see is you dont have any hair dressers designing... ok thats not the only problem.
(heard at a fan gathering by one of the devs responsible for the graphic hair designs among other things: You show me how to do curly hair that doesn't look like **** and I'll put it in)
I've never seen that many great hair designs turn into great looks in games. (no I dont play wow so dont go there) Add to that, after the initial design goes in it has to agree with all the different collar types/shoulder guards/ hats in game on every race/class. You don't just draw a head and say: We're good to go!
However, if hats can be introduced, hair styles can be introduced with the same frequency.
I agree with the cosmetics as well. I abhor the lip selection. Not all of my toons should have the same overbite. Especially the females. I'd like some thin lips some thin upper lips, some fat lips and some medium lips and be able to change colors on the fly. In fact, how about a lip treatment from farmers? How many blueberries does it take to turn your lips a different color?
Made a post a couple of days ago, that this is an awesome suggestion and one that should be adopted, but i wanted to say a few more things. Longer hair styles would be great. Narmeleth's hair style, before she fell, was very pretty , long, and wavy and i would love to see that hair style option or somthing similar to it. New face shapes would be great too, and new make-up. More eyeshadow colors, eyeliners, and lip color that can be changed at the barber would be awesome too. Just like the female elf npc you play when Narmeleth choses to leave with the 'Gift Lord', she has eyeliner. Maybe add a flower or two to the longer hairstyles at the ear, or down a long braid that goes down the back. Or the hair at the ears pulled back to the back of the head, with the rest of the hair hanging to midback, and maybe add a flower where the hair is pulled back the the back of the head for the female toons and a leaf or somthing or noththing for the male toons. Another suggestion is to make cosmetic jewerly that can been seen, like necklaces that i see some of the npcs wearing or an outfit like Narmeleth's or a new outfit design that has jewerly that can be seen. There are plenty of options that can be done in these areas. Great idea! Hope to see it soon!
As a female player the looks of my character keeps me playing, and i'm just appauled at how many unfeminine hairstyles there are for women, but when you look at mens they look more feminine. I WANT ARWENS/EOWYNS HAIR! Not hair that looks like i've just come off a GHD catwalk when really in medeival times most women had long flowing/wavy hair. There needs to be LONGER hairstyles for females that trail half way down the body or even longer, i want to feel like a maiden of that time, not some glamour model in hair magazines, too modern for lord of the rings tbh. Another thing that annoys me is male characters look prettier and better looking than female characters (It feels like males have longer groomed hair, with bigger eyes), so please make more specific adjustments to eyes/lips/nose/face shape like in the sims for example. In the barber shop you should be allowed to change make up, it's silly when you get wrinkles/scars so why not make up? Longer hairstyles for both men and women! With possible braids too.

I completely agree. There isn't enough freedom when it comes to customizing your character. I also think there should be more options for facial customisation, as all the faces of a certain race/sex look the same.
WAY MORE body shapes (although not sure how this would impact armour/clothing models).
I think a LITTLE variety in the height of each race might be doable. Hobbits 2.5 to 4 feet tall. Humans 5.5 to 6.5 feet tall. Dwaves and Elves, I have no idea their typical ranges.
