Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival
“This Spring Festival will feature all of the games and good cheer that have been present in the past, but this year brings a sizeable new landmark to the festival grounds in the Horsefields, courtesy of a very talented gardener on the World Team.”
To learn more about this exciting new addition be sure to check out Lauren "Budgeford" Salk’s very first Developer Diary and join the discussion!

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival
Are there more ways to get Inn League rep during this festival? The pub runs are fun but at this rate I won't make Kindred until some time in 2015.
Looking forward to the new events at the spring fest! The hedge maze sounds awesome - great idea!solien

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival
A maze! Except, I noticed that the developer diary seemed to indicate it was tied to the Inn League by having included the Inn League in a paragraph entirely about the maze. Is it Inn League only? The Hedge Maze is intended to bring players together for a new challenge that will take place in a more close-quartered public instance than we’ve seen previously in the game. There are chickens to be caught, Elves to be scolded, signs to be posted, records to be beat, and a very sinister surprise at the center of it all. I highly recommend joining the Inn League this year if you have not done so already.

I believe it is. It was noted a week or two ago that's when it would start. I really hope it lasts a few weeks as I'll be without a PC for most of next week

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival
Mmmm, what a cool maze, with tasty chickens too (oops, did I say that out loud?)
The flower quest in Bree though was... interesting... so many high levels on mounts running around outside Celondim picking posies. I doubt I have ever seen so many people running to pluck the same bunch of flowers before. Nice tart reward for my efforts.
Well done Dev team. A festival I will remember (my first!)

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival
In all honesty Turbine really took player suggestions from the winter festival and made this one a blast!
1. In the winter festival the only way to get items were random luck from 1-2 per day per character boxes, doing pick up and return quests with little thought.
2. In the spring fest has a whole hedge maze with different quest tons of drinking and the ability to barter for items you want. As well as getting a bunch of boxes at once if you "feel lucky"
Great job!

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival
One suggestion if I may...consider making the festival BOA items(the lawn decorations is mostly what I refer to) bind to the account not to the character. I forsee character roulette in my future when I want to redecorate my lawn.

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival
That only works if the items are Bind on Equip. These items are Bind on Acquire. I do have a vault alt that holds all my decorations. She can't hold ones she didn't acquire herself however if they are BOA. I do the festival on all my alts to get the decorations I want for myself and the kinhouse. .... Nevermind, I'm an idiot. I just realized the BOA stuff I had to move from the kinhouse mailed back to the person who placed them. Mind that meant we lost a few, since those were folks taking an absence from the game, but in my case it all belongs to my alts, it will just mail back to them and I can re-place the stuff.

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival
While I love the new Hedge Maze -- kudos, Devs!
For the next Festival? I would put in a plea to PLEASE add back the fishing quests versus the flower gathering quests.
On the fishing quests, we weren't competing with zillions of players on a timed quest, but were quietly fishing for barter items and it was one of my favorite things to do after a bad day (much more rewarding than 'real' fishing in-game as yet).
Now we have to run around with a bunch of people also competing for flower nodes, and of course have to deal with the usual bad mannered or ninja types who will use extra run speeds, etc., to grab a flower out from under you, etc.
It's not a huge deal, but it is annoying. The flowers don't respawn super fast, and there are currently far more players gathering them than there are flowers, so they are kind of exasperating and not nearly as fun or rewarding to me as the fishing.
And on top of that, there's the matter of the honestly lousy rewards. I have gotten -- thus far -- 14 Blueberry Tart recipes out of 18 gift boxes, plus 4 miscellaneous yet underwhelming little items that I already had.
I like the Spring festival and love the maze, but miss the fishing and hate the 'ninja' aspect to trying to grab the flowers in an hour (and all for some really bummer rewards).

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival
Talk about success. It looks like Turbine really hit the jackpot with the horse races. Fun event and great reward, something easy to get, but also not so easy since it only comes around a few times a year.
So, not having the horse races this Festival was a real bummer. Everyone was feeling the pain. It looks like the Devs have also been feeling the pain - - of having the horse races. But let me tell you guys, this is one of the best holiday events in any game, so here's hoping you get it fixed or figure out another way for players to get festival horses.
If races just aren't going to work, might I suggest something akin to the Inn League initiation quest?
I'd also like to make a suggestion about the Party Tree. This is the most unfestive part of festival. Other than a dance and launching the inn league quest, nothing goes on here. It's rather forlorn, actually, particularly for a Party Tree. It ought to be the center of fun at festival!
But, there's a really big problem related to the Party Tree: Not much room. Whereas there's room for a maze on the Horsefields, you can't even get a pie-eating contest in at the Party Tree!
So my suggestion is simple, remove the huge ovens you don't need there and give yourselves some more room. No one cooks at those ovens, other than an NPC for a quest, they aren't the lest bit useful and that part of the Shire looks barren. No one would miss them. It seems to me to be one of the hold over places from Beta that could use a re-do.
Then you'd have room to give the Party Tree some real party.
Looking forward to next Festival!
